RD and PZ were sucker punched by Stein & Co., just like Tony Blair and the American electorate were duped by George Bush. Perhaps a lesson has been learned.

Elvis Presley said the following about Scientology: "F - - - those people! There's no way I'll ever get involved with that son-of-a-bitchin' group. All they want is my money."
Comment #137930 by fatcitymax on March 3, 2008 at 3:32 pm
There is a similarity between Hinn and RD; although, Hinn is certainly crass whereas RD is silky smooth. RD hawks his book whenever he's interviewed or on a book tour--with the intent to keep the profits, as does Hinn. RD intends freeing people from a delusion and making them mentally healthier. Hinn intends on making people both mentally and physically healthier, and probably does so frequently and temporarily because of the placebo effect. I have no doubt that people attending Hinn's revival felt much better afterwards (and maybe quite a bit lighter in the pocketbook too). Same for the people attending RD's book signings.
Now, don't all you athiest fundies out there blow a gasket.

Please forgive me, but as an American it is a guilty relief for me that Canada and GB are also having to cope with the ID and Creationist infection. I am not hopeful that the US constitutional firewall of separation of church and state will survive. I am aquainted with many otherwise seemingly sensible and rational people who are unable to acknowledge the fundamental importance of this division. I believe that the brains of these people are simply wired differently. They cannot associate and project the consequences of religious madness in countries such as Iraq, Iran, and Israel onto our own country. I feel sorry for future generations. We are failing them.

I'm as anti-theist as Dawkins or Harris, and I suppose Dawkings was primarily directing his remarks toward evangelical zealots and those who want a religious state, but I also know that for many people life is crushing. And for those people who need a religion to endure their outrageous fortune, I support them provided they keep their beliefs to themselves.

Sam, please find a worthy opponent of your knowledge and logic. Sullivan's response is precisely what one would expect from a confused, whimpering 17-year-old girl: God loves me, God understands me, God protects me. Sullivan, wake up and smell the coffee: there ain't no stinking God, so face reality and throw your Bible in the fireplace. I'm very sorry that you have AIDS. Seventeen years ago my favorite cousin died from AIDS. He was gay and an Atheist, and he died like a man. He never complained, and he displayed grace and courage that astounds me to this day.

50. Executing Saddam Hussein was an Act of Vandalism
Comment #15811 by fatcitymax on January 3, 2007 at 6:39 am
First, all mass murderers should be executed following a fair, clinical, and public trial. Unfortunately the Bush/Blair administrations did not follow the Nuermberg model or use the Hague International Court of Justice. They allowed the trial and execution to turn into an Islamic revenge spectacle, but this has the advantage that it further discredits them and that religion.
Second, what does this have to do with atheism and religion? The capacity for murder lies in nearly all of us; there is nothing mystifying about it. Richard's article makes it appear that he lives in an academic ivory tower oblivious to reality. The notion that we should have kept Hitler or Hussein alive for scientific examination of their mental processes is worse than ludicrous, and it detracts from the important messages in The God Delusion.
