I agree with his reading of intellectual

2. Creationist Britain (would you Adam and Eve it?)

Comment #250057 by Godfree Gordon on September 19, 2008 at 12:03 am

"whole idea that there's a designer who gives unique gifts to everyone and they don't have to be perfect and how the media portray people"

yeah like Palins downs child, harlequin babies, conjoined twins and Vladimir Putin

"Caitlin's views were certainly formed, at least partly, by her father Wes, a pastor at the local church"

I hate brussel sprouts and so do my kids - no-one but me to blame there, not at least partly, but wholly (or holy if you're a pastor's daughter)

His stumbling upon his musical abilities in Black Books is still the funniest thing on Earth.

7. Palin: average isn't good enough

Comment #241649 by Godfree Gordon on September 3, 2008 at 12:45 am

Viewing this on my Chrome browser - very cool.

Anyhoo...I don't think the pro-Clintons would necessarily like Palin being the first female president and NOT elected - its enough to keep them honest methinks.

CRUCIFIXION

When nails were used they were placed below the wrist - there is a carilagenous band around the wrist which "hangs" on the nail.

Makes a bit of a joke then about the stigmata...

11. Religion out of medicine, a new message for Ontario doctors

Comment #232167 by Godfree Gordon on August 17, 2008 at 6:48 pm

"a burden on physicians like myself to conform to a view that basically puts my conscience under somebody's else's power," said Dr. Leiva. "

Hey, Dr. Catholic, your conscience is already under someone elses power, baby.

Comment #227848 by Godfree Gordon on August 10, 2008 at 10:54 pm

And in that equanimatable spirit of the UK, C4 will now also be producing a follow up series titled "Make mine a Muslim" in which disilliusioned evangelical Christian parents, who think their brand of Christianity doesnt go far enough, give over their Flanders-esque children to a gun totin' Imam for the ultimate in Extreme Makeover shows.

19. Embracing goodness, without God

Comment #223920 by Godfree Gordon on August 3, 2008 at 5:48 pm

Why do newspapers/braodcasters lump religion and ethics together under the same masthead?

In Australia our National Government Broadcaster, the ABC, does the same thing, and it annoys the shit out of me, cos invariable it is written/hosted by a happy clapper

Where does it say that religion has the mortage on ethics?

Time to write a letter to the editor...

Border Collie and iblesen

The more I read the more I understand that these systems of mysogyny pre-date Islam/Judaism/Christianity. (For some good reads try also Elephant Walk and The Bookseller of Kabul as well of course as Ayaan Hirsi Ali). But as always, the opportunist religions will adopt any control system to suit their means and ends.

The Koraniacs therefore are just doing as the Mor(m)ons do and the Jews do.

For us middle aged white folk its like trying to understand the horrors of the Great Wars never having been in one, or lived through their consequences. We can easily say "just leave".

Try leaving Earth, and living on the Moon.

Lets take Rods lead and come up with some strategies to help.

26. Nine face stoning death in Iran

Village Idiot

Time didnt stop a millenium ago in Iran.

Persia until very recently was a well educated, advancing society, until of course the Koraniacs took over.

Iran has invented time travel - they've gone back to the turn of the last millenium :-)

29. New legal threat to school science in the US

Comment #207300 by Godfree Gordon on July 9, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Hey, y'all over there in the States.

Murder is a crime - so is attempted murder. Same too for robbery and attempted robbery.

From here downunder it would appear a imple fix for ACLU or someone to propose a bill that makes "attempted" NON separation of church and state a crime - so as soon as one of your so far clever judges, smells the ID rat for what it is some smart DA can then prosecute for the attempt...

Worth a shot?

Ooroo

Let them form as many splinter groups as the Christians have and they'll be less and less relevant with each schism.

One of the advantages of living in Australia, apart from sun, sand, surf and space, is if you're tooling around on your computer at 11:59pm on July 17th its only 7:29am in Britain on the same day. And therefore you get first log.

37. Rapture site sends unbelievers their last chance ... via email

40. Senate bill allows display of Lord's Prayer, 10 Commandments

Comment #186621 by Godfree Gordon on May 30, 2008 at 9:22 pm

All of these logs are now historical documents and I'd like them to be displayed alongside the 10 commandments. Along with the Book of Mor(m)on (historical document) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (historical document) and my fifth grade report card where I got all the Cs and a couple of Bs (historical document).

My letter of resignation from this crazy world isn't written yet (not historical yet) and so I don't need that displayed.

45. Richard Dawkins interviewed by John Humphrys on Cardinal Murphy O'Connor

Comment #177938 by Godfree Gordon on May 10, 2008 at 2:43 am

Just saw the video.

Random redefinition of "God" is the calling card of the apologist believer whose interest is vested in maintaining any sort of adherence to something supernatural. In perpetuating an amorphous intangible and ever-malleable description or premise of "God" they belie their real personal incredulity.

It is difficult for the Cardinal to accept that he himself has slipped into the Islamic trap of religious repetition as a path to non-thinking auto-responsive belief.

46. Richard Dawkins interviewed by John Humphrys on Cardinal Murphy O'Connor

Comment #177872 by Godfree Gordon on May 9, 2008 at 9:38 pm

Is there another person there. At 6:23 you can hear a prompt "tell 'em...." - can anybody pick up what the person is saying? I think its why the question is repeated, because the man in the silly skirt s distracted...

47. Atheists are nice people who will roast in hell, says Cardinal

Comment #177854 by Godfree Gordon on May 9, 2008 at 8:36 pm

48. Atheists are nice people who will roast in hell, says Cardinal

Comment #177850 by Godfree Gordon on May 9, 2008 at 8:26 pm

Do cardinals et al believe because they are so fair skinned and would sunburn as well as burn in hell if they didn't believe? Personally I believe in SPF 30 .
