1. Bible drawn into Hong Kong sex publication row

Comment #41869 by privateeye on May 17, 2007 at 8:23 am

Reporting the bible as obscene in this regard is exactly the correct reposte to the ridiculous ruling on the article in the student journal. Meanwhile here in Britain we have the new laws against religious hatred including publications which preach religious hatred and as far as I know no one has yet reported the bible to the authorities for the reams of vitriol in its pages directed at anyone who has the audacity to believe in any other god. Surely directing them to be stoned to death for this is major religious hatred and the bible should therefore be banned from publication in the UK. Maybe its time I phoned the Police!!

I bet the muslims were gutted when they realised they wouldn't get the chance to swap shirts with the female clerics at the end of the match!!

Give these books a chance. I think they are marvellous. Having seen some of them in Waterstones, I am going to buy a couple as they are thin enough to prop up the wonky leg on my dining table!

4. Neil Peart cites The God Delusion in new album's liner notes

Here is my favourite Rush song which was highly influential to me and one of the reasons I long ago became an atheist and began to use my own FREEWILL.

"Freewill"

There are those who think that life has nothing left to chance
A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance

A planet of play things
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
'The stars aren't aligned
Or the gods are malign...'
Blame is better to give than receive

[Chorus:]
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill

There are those who think
That they were dealt a losing hand
The cards were stacked against them
They weren't born in Lotusland

All preordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate
Kicked in the face
You can't pray for a place
In heaven's unearthly estate

[Chorus]

Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt that's far too fleet

[Chorus]

5. Free Speech

With free speech comes responsibilty. That responsibility extends to accepting the principal that if you lie you should be prepared to explain why you lied and indeed, if your lie has the effect of causing harm to anyone, then you should also be prepared to accept the punishment for that lie. Step forward Tony Blair and explain why you lied to us about Saddam's weapons of mass destruction - oh and by the way, the punishment for your lie will be found at the Hague!! No doubt his priest will already have heard that confession and done sod all about it along with the numerous confessions to rape and murder he has heard over the years!!

6. [Warning: Graphic] Children's foreheads slashed in Muslim saint's name

Squiddity, I am sure that if you are able to re-write the article in a manner which is reasoned and does not prey on our emotions, then you could log it here and everyone might then be able to exactly what you are on about. I for one cannot see where the reporter has strayed from the facts in this article.
