1. Lying for Jesus?

Dr. Benway: You say, "If the Bible is literally true and the OT laws apply to us today, we're duty bound to stone people for breaking the Sabbath. That's outrageous and inhumane!"

The creationist replies, "That's a strawman! God is not inhumane!"

I think Jesus made a good point after writing something in the sand, "Those of you who are without sin, throw a stone" at the woman caught in adultery. As you know, all of them walked away... So, if the Bible is taken literally based on its full counsel, stoning someone is not logical because we are all guilty. So, yes, it is a strawman...

riandouglas: Lack of evidence.

What kind of evidence are you looking for?

Logical inconsistencies.

How so?

Oh, and probably the initial reason - lack of need.

Do you need a logical explanation though?

riandouglas: ... I don't deny, I simply see no reason to believe in existence.

Ah, but what leads you to believe that there is no reason to believe in the existence of a deity?

riandouglas: I know there was some court decision which ruled atheism a religion, but that doesn't make it so, atheism being a lack of believe [sic] in a god or gods.

A lack of belief in something constitutes a belief to the contrary or simply "I don't know". A religious view is a view that either supports the existence of a deity or denies it. You may define the two views by categorizing them as "religious" and "irreligious" but they are both views regarding the existence of a deity nonetheless (i.e. pertaining to religion). You must be thinking about agnosticism (or variations of it)...

Apparently, the study is flawed in its very basic assumption. Does it factor in the atheists in the "religious" category? Only agnostics would be considered non-religious as theism and atheism, by defintion, are religious views...
