I think that the only people that can defend their religion are the people that believe in it. Anyone else that makes such remarks will either be seen as a suck-up or a fool. I'm not sure which of these two the Dalai Lama is but I guarantee he is one if not both of them.
Islam can't be a religion of peace as long as the majority of its followers don't stand up for it, not only for themselves but for everyone. Ideas can't be judged by the pages that they are written on but rather on the minds they fill.
2. Religious bigotry upheld in court

I'm just curious, if one joined the military before the Iraq war and ended up in Baghdad a week later could that person get out on the same premise. I mean one could just say:
"I was being effectively forced to choose between my religion and my job and so since my religion says thou shall not kill I guess I can't go to war. I was picked on, shunned and accused of being too peaceful"
Seems pretty logical to me (maybe not for a military court though, idk).

Quality is better than quantity. That's what I get from this article. I think it is interesting that people often use quantity in arguments as a support (ex. Because there are so many more people that believe in god than those who don't, therefore, believing in god is the smarter thing to do). Although this study is purely biological I think I can extend it to conclude that the first point in general is often right.
4. 3QD interviews Richard Dawkins

I actually really enjoyed this interview, the hypothetical questions were interesting and it was good to see some out of the ordinary questioning as well as to see Richard stretch his imagination a bit, usually it's just a piece of cake arguing with most theists. I agree though the set up was not the best but that did not detract from the quality of Richards answers.
