1. Royal Society's Michael Reiss resigns over creationism row

This is a curious one, having watched the relidiots in the US whining about creationism and its sock puppet Intelligent Design, demanding special time for it etc I was feeling quietly complacent about the levels of secularism we enjoy in the UK so this story gave me quite a shock.
I have NO time for ID in a science classroom, however some of what the Rev Reiss said does make sense, a science teacher should be able to defend and define science, point out to a class what constitutes a scientific theory and what doesn't, explain to a class what sort of evidence is required to raise a brain fart beyond the realms of wild speculation and into the realms of a lay theory or beyond to a scientific one, ID would make as good a counter example as any other, particularly if it gets brought up anyway.
As long as too much time isn't spent on it I can see this being quite a constructive class discussion, it should give children a better understanding of what science is, how it's done and maybe engender some feelings of respect for it.
Anyway thank you to all the people who put time and effort into the RD site, since the guys at religiousfreaks seem to have given up this is now my main source of news from the front, I still head to www.fstdt.com and

What about the old 'Riddle of Epicurus'
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then is he impotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then is he malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?

I've added my name. As for the content of the add, I'd like to see a variation on a cartoon I can no longer find on-line.
3 religious men standing in conference, looking sage and wise and venerable, a priest, a rabbi and an imam, standing in front of them is a small child saying "Aren't you a bit old to be playing with imaginary friends?"

If like me you like to find and bookmark the first of a cartoon series and slowly work through them a couple a day with your coffee, here is the first one.

I also just watched her at AAI2007, I'm continually struck by her intelligence and dignity.
