Now I have a second reason to celebrate July 1st....Canada Day and Emancipation Day....

6. Richard Dawkins interviewed by John Humphrys on Cardinal Murphy O'Connor

Comment #177974 by Bob Russell on May 10, 2008 at 5:18 am

The good Cardinal is a blithering idiot. He trots out the old standard about Hitler. These christian imbeciles forget that Hitler personally didn't kill one person...his followers did all his killing for him. And who where his followers.....the vast majority were Catholic or Protestant christians. And to suggest that reason was responsible just shows how much of an idiot this man is. Rightly are the simple called.

9. Canadian fossil makes waves in Huckabee's presidential run

Comment #111938 by Bob Russell on January 16, 2008 at 3:32 am

I'm not sure which is more scary. A half-wit Baptist fundamentalist as president or a president named Huckabee. Can you see this moron on the world stage. He makes GW look positively cerebral. "And now from the Oval Office addressing the nation, the President of the United States of America, Mike Huckleberry."

10. Pope's exorcist squads will wage war on Satan

Comment #104860 by Bob Russell on December 29, 2007 at 7:00 pm

I think we all should drop by the local RC church and act like we are possessed by satan. It would be a hoot...

P.T. Barnum aid it best with, "There is a sucker born every minute - and two to bring 'em."

This pulpit pilot gives me the creeps with that cheesy grin on his face. Reminds me of Hitchens "No child's behind left" quip.

....FUCK OFF!....

I like it...I wish someone, especially an interviewer, would just come out and say this to these people when they spout this nonsense. No mincing of words here...they will know right away what we think of their insane beliefs. This applies to the Billy Grahams, and Pat Robertsons of the world as much as this imbecile. Intelligent arguement has its limits. Plain English is sometimes is needed.

Sir Salman Rushdie should never have been knighted, he says. "He caused a huge amount of distress and discordance with his book, it should have been pulped."
Interviewer: "Fuck off."

"The extreme case could be suicide bombers, it is all they have … The people who become suicide bombers are really vulnerable."
Interviewer: "Fuck off"

British people could, in his view, benefit from arranged marriages. "I prefer to call them assisted marriages," he says.
Interviewer: "Fuck off."

I know it is not intelligent discourse but when I read this shite these words do come to mind.

16. Dr Bari: Government stoking Muslim tension

Comment #87415 by Bob Russell on November 12, 2007 at 4:04 am

Thank goodness for "free speech." It certainly leaves no question who the morons of the world are. As much as I detest this idiot's opinions, at least we know what they are and do not force him into the closet in some mosque somewhere. Let's hear what these nutters (like Fred Phelps etc) really think.

17. CNN Request for 'I-Reports' on religion

Comment #65006 by Bob Russell on August 22, 2007 at 3:56 pm

This is my I-report to CNN:

"I do not believe in ignorant, blind faith. I believe in reason, evidence and strive to do no harm to others. I do not believe in ghosts, goblins, gods, prime movers, spirits - holy or otherwise, creators, priests, nuns, preachers, imams any other such rubbish. I feel nothing but pity for the deluded faithful and only contempt for the charletans and necromancers who fleece them of their money and give them false hope."

Hey folks, these 4 books are not the only ones released recently....It was Ludovic Kennedy's "All in the Mind - a Farewell to God" that assisted me down off the fence. It is an excellent book by a well known British author and broadcaster.

26. Now Muslims Get Their Own Laws In Britian

Comment #36694 by Bob Russell on May 2, 2007 at 3:13 am

I do not see any women in the above photo. All I see is chattel. Slaves to religious ignorance.

I shudder to think about some of the decisions by bearded, superstitous, intolerant, Imams. No wait that's not fair. Just because they are bearded means nothing. That insults all people with beards.

They wanted to do this in Ontario, Canada but thanfully the government choose wisely and sharia law is not officially practised there.

Women's rights are human rights.

28. Scene Caused by Christian Group at NYC Stage Show

Comment #35830 by Bob Russell on April 29, 2007 at 2:57 am

I agree Spiral....

Imagine if an atheist or a group of atheists dropped by a packed church and in the middle of the shaman's incantations, they all got up and noisily walked out, stopping to pour the holy water all over the shaman's book. Not one would get out alive.

It really is depressing to see an inconsequential hockey player at number 4.

Must be the Canadian vote that puts a hockey player on the list! :-)

31. Doctors Opposing Circumcision: An Appeal for Misha

Comment #32882 by Bob Russell on April 18, 2007 at 3:55 pm

I was circumcised when I was 2 days old and it hurt so much I couldn't walk for a whole year!

Seriously though, this is a barbaric thing to do. I am sorry I had it done to my own son 15 years ago. That was before I became a "Person of Reason" .... I would certainly not do it again.

32. The end of one law for all?

Comment #10751 by Bob Russell on November 29, 2006 at 4:52 am

This is nuts...what happens when the victim is of one culture and the accused is of another? Who's cultural traditions (superstitons) would apply?

34. Our Teapot, which art in heaven

Comment #10116 by Bob Russell on November 27, 2006 at 5:15 am

The comments posted on this web site are usually very good - especially when they are about nonsensical articles and reviews like O'Brien's.

It seems though that we are all guilty of preaching to the choir.

Why don't we start a letter writing campaign to all major newspapers making some of these etc making these excellent comments public?

I have begun to do so here in Canada, though my own talents pale in comparison to some of the very intelligent people who post here. Whenever I read some religious prat spouting on in the a letter or a column I always reply with a reasoned atheistic argument.

There is no point in atheists "coming out of the proverbial closet" only to remain in the room with all the others.

36. Atheists' delusions about God

Comment #2927 by Bob Russell on October 24, 2006 at 4:29 pm

Comment #2536 by Akkdio on October 21, 2006 at 6:16 pm

People can listen and not hear. People can read and not understand. It is truly sad.

I suspect this is probably the case with the good clergyman....he obviously may have read the bible but does not understand what he is reading....so why should we expect him to understand something actually intelligent?
