1. Brunswick school board to consider creationism teaching

Comment #256675 by wengerj on September 29, 2008 at 10:25 am

As a North Carolinian, I am embarrassed by this foolishness. You need to realize that most school board members are simply lay-people, many have other jobs. Many are not experts in even in education, much less evolutionary biology. By the way, I don't think counties can dictate curriculum anyway. If I'm correct, it's mandated by the state for just this reason. Mr. Hobbs should know this. This is just another case ignorant bumpkins trying to impose their dated mythology on everybody else.

Also, please believe me when I tell you that all North Carolinians are not this ignorant. There are many intelligent, free thinking people here......just not in Brunswick County. Sorry, but I had to get that off of my chest.

What ever happened to talking things out...oh wait. You're reasons for reasons for being a narrow minded religious psychopath aren't rooted in logic and can't be changed by words and contradictory evidence. No wonder most of the arab world lives in the stone age. If I were less compassionate, I'd say that people living in these countries deserve what they get when they allow their religious leaders to spew such nonsensical crap, but I'm too nice. Most people are brainwashed from an early age, when they are absolutely defenseless agains the insane ramblings of regilious nutjobs. As a result, freethought is stamped out relatively effectively. It makes me sad.

3. The rise of Miliband brings at last the prospect of an atheist prime minister

I agree with petermun. It was a rather uplifting article to read. To bad the US is a long way from this kind of event taking place. We still have debate moderators asking about a candidate's relationship with jesus. Granted it wasn't a normal debate setting, but the fact that both Obama and McStain felt compelled to attend this debate annoyed me.

"We aren't out to tar and feather anyone."

No, you just want to silence everyone that doesn't share your primitive, narrow-minded belief system, and make them disappear.

Wait a minute! If it's god's will for these people to be sick, why would he suddenly change his mind because some bozo asked him? If their god is all-knowing and all-wise, then they should just accept their infirmities as part of god's plan. I hate these phony jerks!

6. PLEASE WRITE IN SUPPORT OF PZ MYERS

Comment #208228 by wengerj on July 10, 2008 at 6:22 pm

Just my two cents:

Dear President Bruininks,

I would like to make it clear that I fully stand behind Dr. PZ Myers and his right to free expression. If you were to punish him for remarks made about a Catholic communion wafer, you would be setting a dangerous precedent. You must now allow your fine institution to be intimidated in to taking action against Dr. Myers by masses of ignorant religious zealots. It amazes me how so much hysteria could be caused over a piece of bread the size of a quarter. Clearly, many involoved in this witch-hunt have a very tenuous grip on reality. If Mr. Donohue, wants to believe that a piece of bread magically turns in to the flesh of Jesus after a priest says a prayer over it, then that's his business. However, this does not exempt him from criticism for his ridiculous belief system. I urge you to fully support Dr. Myers against this tidal wave of insane regilious fervor. He does not deserve to be punished for expressing his thoughts, he should be lauded for being brave enough to speak out against the superstitious insanity that now grips our country. Thank you for your time.

7. God hates Mars

Don't these jerk-offs understand that the tchnology we use to do things like send rovers to mars, men to the moon, etc, has also been used to help us here at home. For example, certain silicon chips (used to convert light into digital/elcetronic images)invented for use on the Hubble Space Telescope are now used to detect breast cancer?

These people are completely myopic.

Done! By the way, this is my first post ever. I figured I'd start small. I don't know how much good my letter will do, but sitting in silence while creationists cram their agendas down the throats of impressionable children (while I do nothing) is more than my concsience can bear. I look forward to many future discussions on this board. Peace!
