"excessive accumulation of wealth by a few".
I think there's an organisation based in Rome guilty of this deadly sin.
Anybody hazzard a guess?

Which cave, totally cut off from all civilization has George PELL just emerged from. I realize that he has based his life around a book written in the Iron Age, but surely he has some knowledge of history since that time. To claim that Religion has been unfairly blamed for conflicts around the world is either naïve or disingenuous.
Most wars throughout the centuries have been fought because of religious intolerance. If not fanned directly by religion, then encouraged by prejudices fed by religious fervor. George refers to Hitler's (a catholic) hatred of the Jews. Where did this hatred come from? Try 2000 years of the church blaming the Jews for crucifying Jesus. At the time, did the Catholic Church condemn Hitler? No, they offered prayers for him following a failed assassination attempt. They did however excommunicate Joseph Goebbels. Why? Because he married a Protestant.
George also points out the activities of the likes of Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot. Atrocities committed by these men were because they were evil, not because they were atheists. To quote Physicist Steven WEINBERG. " (Religion) With or without it, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things. That takes religion."

Don't forget from a military standpoint there is a very practicle reason to encourage belief in an imaginary friend who will grant you an after life bettter than the present.
It's far more dificult to convince atheist soldiers to throw their lives away for some simple minded president who wants to finish daddy's work in Irak.

I'm sure, if I took the right steps, this could make perfect sense to me. However a frontal lobotomy is too great a price to pay.

Actually there are two types of people in the world. Those with brains and no religion and those with religion and no brains.
