Then let's propose that students in LA learn the Spaghetti Monster Theory for how the world was created. Let's just open up a can of any possiblity, beacsue we certianly want academic freedom," and do not want those students to feel slighted. So anyone who has an idea that can possibly be considered other than evolution, "the truth," please go to the board of LA and submit, If refused "sue" on grounds that your idea/theory has just as much falsiability as ID or lack there of.
Let the games begin.....

I can just imagine George looking down on us right now, ...
oops wrong website. LOL Just kidding.....
George dying is in fact a sad day for atheist's and for humanity. A brilliant man who was able to look at life and see humor and make people laugh. What a great thing to be able to do, make people laugh. I wish I had a fraction of his ability. The only solace is that I can go to "youtube" and watch George anytime I wish, and beleive me, I will a great deal. I will introduce George to my newborn daughter in about 18 years, and let her take in his wit and wisdom!!
He will be missed!

Elles,
Its pretty cool to be able to express yourself to a large audience. It makes you feel like your doing a small part in potentially changing the world. While I have not be on Point of Inquiry, I have been fortunate to be a guest on The Infidel Guy Internet broacast, "healing Without God" is the title of the show. It was alot of fun, and very rewarding.
i am off to the golf course now, 6am local time, but will listen to PZ as soon as I return. I always learn a great deal when listening.

All thier antics will do is make more people go and read Angels and Demons.
I didn't care that it was a conspiracy theory or that it was true or not. I enjoyed the books as works of fiction. In all honesty, The Da Vinci Code really was one of the books five years ago that spurred on my rapid assent into atheism.
5. Louisiana's latest creationism bill moves to House floor
Comment #185836 by ksskidude on May 28, 2008 at 6:46 pm
What we need is the Hindu's to step up and try to get legislation passed to teach thier "scientific" creation stories in science class as well. The more each religious group steps up and tries to say that thier way of creation or ID should be taught, then hopefully they will realize just how ridiculous it is to teach unscientific beliefs.

I wonder how many of the so called "science teachers" are actually scientist's? It also makes me wonder how many of them actaully "teach" science with the intent of teaching creationism or at the very least NOT teaching evolution?

As an individual with a spinal cord injury, this is fantastic news. The best news is still yet to come, and that will be when idiot GWB is finally out of office and the next President of the USA will finally start funding the research as it should have been.
But bewarned middle America, the Religious Right wants to ban this research in Missouri, and make it illegal for patients to one day even get cures from it.

Do any of you know where we can find this alleged apology?

I haven't decided yet if I will go and see the documentary yet or not. I magine that I should, just so that I am well versed in what it is trying to say. But then again I already know what the so-called movie is going to say, "nothing."
It will once again twist and lie and pray on the feeble minded. It will argue that we non-beleiver's, we that require "evidence" are simply bullying them around. "Sigh.........."
If an alien or aliens come to our planet and reveal themselves and thier technology,I will be excited beyond belief. But I will never think of them as god-like. That would be an insult to them.

I want to comment on what people have been writing about Bill and his rant od perscription drugs. While I disagree with Bill, I do think that his intentions are in the right place. However, what his is saying can be very dangerous, and ultimatley could cost a person thier life in they were to put to much stock in what he has to say about such things.
I would like to see Dr. Dawkins give Bill a talking to about this subject. I would imagine Bill would give Dr. Dawkins the respect he deserves and would atleast hear him out.

This means that we are one step closer to finding cures and therapies that are effective!!
I live in MO and am a member of the MO Coalition For LifeSaving Cures www.missouricures.com
In 2006 we had to vote in MO whether or not SCNT should be allowed to continue. The Religious Right wanted to ban this process, make amyone who participated a felon, punishable up to 15 years in jail.
The vote only passed by 50k out of 4 million. needless to say, we are going to have to vote once again.
It astounds me at to what lengths these people will go to see the xtian agenda passed. I for one will not allow it, and will continue to do all I can to keep all forms of stem cell research legal.
SCNT will enable any sick patient to regenerate their own embryonic stem cells. This is why SCNT is so important; the cells are an exact gentic match, which means, no immune system rejection, which is huge.

Sigh......
I am so tired, and frustrated. Now the f*cking xtians have the US gov clearly on thier side. We are doomed. My country is a theocracy, and I'm in it up to my ears.
My wife and I are at our 1st Pregnacy Dr. visit today, and her nurse is wearing the cross around her neck. Just mocking me... I stare at it, and do all that I can not be one of those kinda "atheists" you know the kind that would actually say something about her cross, staring mockingly back at me. But NO, I refrain, I bite my tongue. All is well with my wife, so I was able to refocus.
But now I read this. I am left with the terrible reality that my country is now officially a theocracy. Does anyone really think that the RRight will just be satisfied with this? No way, they are going to take this and run with it. mark my words.

Garton Ash needs a bit of boost. Is it me or does he speak incredibly slow? I understand wanting to articulate your words and also make sure that what you say is understood. But if I were to be a speaking coach for him, I would suggest to speak a little faster, with more voice inflection. Then maybe he would keep attentions, atleast mine.
My two cents...
I think Ayaan is fantastic, and hope she will always be okay!!!
24. Are the 'New Atheists' avoiding the 'real arguments'?
Comment #97670 by ksskidude on December 12, 2007 at 1:54 pm
And the Christian goes, "Huh?"
This just goes right over their heads. They simply are incapable of understanding that we get it. We understand what they are telling us, and preaching to us. We've read the bible, many of us have asked god to come in our lives. We took that "leap of faith," and still got zip, zilch, nada. Our hearts were open, but nothing came.
I often try to explain, that for every xtian, muslim, jew, hindu, etc... there is a different version, interpretation, meaning, truth's, that we atheist have to deal with.
There is always someone else who thinks the complete opposite of you, and yet are still believers in the basic tenants that were descibed by Standing in this article.
But with atheists you get the same answer, "non-belief in a god or gods." That's it.
We get it.

It is another sad moment in our American History. It absolutely baffles the mind that a presidential candidate in the year 2007, still can not see how church and state should remain seperate.
If Romney wins the Presidency, and it could happen people, we are screwed. I am honestly now afraid of what this country is, and has always been, a theocracy in hidding. This speech revealed the cloak of secrecy.
I would like to think that the Dems will act differently, but they have pandered nearly as bad as Romney. I am just sickened!!

What would that say about our country, or atleast about republicans? As I watch my country slowly become a theocracy, I am left feeling angered, confused, bewildered. Is it only me, or do any others feel as I do? I am not kidding when I say that I constantly find myself reading the newspaper, and saddend as I feel helpless. I write op-eds, I write comments on articles and am constantly bombarded by irrational deluded believers.

Living in MO we had to vote on a Constitutional Amendment keeping all forms of ESCR legal. It was like living in the twilight zone!!! We only won by 50K votes, out of 4 million. Scary!

All the more reason to "Stand Out" and stand up for atheism. Religion is here to stay, and no matter how much we fight it, its not going anywhere. But if we all collectively start voicing our non-beliefs, we will have to be taken seriously, because we vote too.
We need to ask the tough questions of politicians, like: "Mrs. Clinton, why do you feel that Jesus is the tue God, and Allah is not?"

Pish posh! This what I got out of this article. Again another tired attempt to make erroneous claims that Dennett, Dawkins, Harris and Hitchens are being mean spirited, and are not being fair to all people of religion.
They are being very fair, they all equally find a belief in god irrational, to the point of absurdity. Like it or not, it is what Athiest think of most believers.
Comment #82099 by ksskidude on October 25, 2007 at 5:04 pm
What Harris says all make sense, until we actually reach the point where we have a majority opinion, I think our position needs to be stated.
Before slavery was ended, and new states entered the union, many people were called free soilers, because they did not want more states to enter the union as slave states. Now that is a term that has no meaning today, but back in 1855 it was absolutely necessary!
Comment #82070 by ksskidude on October 25, 2007 at 4:12 pm
I think right now we must be very clear in our position and "atheism" says it very precisely.
We must stand out at this important time in our history. If we are going to actually create massive change globally, in my opinion of course, atheist's need to be vocal and prepared. We must have the knowledge to debate our position on a moment's notice. It's all of our duty to be so prepared.

I look forward to listening. I am in need of some very stimulating atheistic converstaion. I live in the midwest in America and am getting worn down by all the christian zealots. I would say that consider I myself a new atheist. I have always been a skeptic though, but never a true atheist. Fear had its nasty grip on me. But as I began to read and read more atheist books and more science and evolutionary information, I finally let go of that last bit of (maybe).
I am now border line, angry atheist, but am rational enough to know, that even if I am angry, showing my anger does no good.

I do hail from the great state of Kansas, but live in MO now. Got married and my wife had a house with an acre backyard, so I said I moving in with you.
Spinoza its awful here in the midwest. I was at a speaking engagement this past week in Ill, and drove from KC. I did not find one progressive or liberal AM radio talk station, and every other station was a Christian one.
I actually phoned into a Xtian talk show on the drive home because they were discussing a man whose computer had been discovered with Child Porn on it. Well they were trying to blame it on the so-called fact that our country has become godless and secular. I just had to call in, and let them know that I am an atheist and I too think child porn is wrong and immoral. But I didn't need a god to figure that one out. I was cut off, and then they told their listeners that the reason I must be moral is because God put the sense of right and wrong in me.
Another example of why we must speak out any way we can.

Have any of you actually come out in public and declared your atheism? What the RRS is doing is exactly what most on here wish that they had the sack to do. It takes a lot of courage to speak out against religion in America.
If you don't like their tactics, that certainly is your right, but like I have already stated, hiding behind your anonymous name and avatar doesn't exactly give you any credibility.
Spinoza I for one would like to know what you have done to help change the religous strangle hold that is on America?
I spent an entire year in MO campaigning to keep Embryonic Stem Cell Research Legal in MO. A fight that was brought about by religous zealots that what to change public policies. I was on a christian radio show in Springfield MO, hosted by Vincent Jericho. He told me I walked with the devil ,and that anyone who supports ESCR supports murder. This is the idiotic mentality we have to face in America, and frankly its time we fight back.
The time for intellectual discourse has passed. We must start calling a spade a spade, and if that means offending people, so be it.

The RRS is up front and center and are not hiding behind thier avatars. Until I see web sites and op-eds from all the nay-sayers here, I would just recommended reading the comments, instead of actually commenting. Anyone can hide behind an anonymous name.

I think maybe all of you should go to the Rational Responders(rationalresponders.com) web site and see for yourselves that they are incredibly important for our cause. There are many different ways to skin a cat, and the Rational Response Squad is putting it out there. They are trying to invoke change, because before the last year and half, atheist's were manily silent, and what had been done before obviously wasn't doing anything, IMO.
Both Brian and Kelly are incredibly intelligent and express themselves very well indeed. Do they come across as angry at times, yes, but I'm pissed off a lot as well. Basically they have said, enough is enough. Kind words and logical arguments might work for some, but there are plenty of ignorant fools out there, i.e. Kirk Cameron, Ray Comfort, Kent Hovid, etc.. that need to be put in thier place.
I for one support the RRS 110%!
One last thing, RD was a guest on their show, and I don't think he would have done that if he did not support them either.

How can the nimrod be serious? Anti-religious don't hope it will work, they know it will work. Why, because the evidence of countries that are more non-relgious speaks for itself. Even if there were no evidence at all at this time, it doesn't mean that evidence through observation can not be gathered.
