1. Religion is not incompatible with Science: 'Non-Overlapping Magisteria'

Religion is not incompatable with science....

Religion makes certain claims as to the way the world runs. Central to the theist religions is the notion that a god is running things who can be influenced to some extent by human behaviour, sacrifices, chants, rituals etc and above all by prayer. It is possible to examine the evidence for the efficacy of prayer and in fact there have been many studies doing just that. The largest prayer experiment ever must have been duting the attack on the twin towers. While the world watched the fires there must have been hundreds of millions of people of all faiths praying for the people trapped by the fires.

Sadly there was not one instance of people emulating Shadrack Mechak and Abendigo and walking unharmed through the flames. Not one instance of peple emulating St Theresa and flying to safety. Why not???

2. Why do atheists care about what others believe when it doesn't affect atheists?

with the two major religions of the world (Islam and Roman Catholicism) obsessed with opposing every form of non-reproductive sexual activity, including heterosexual activity using birth control, there is no way that the population explosion can be slowed down, let alone reversed. The major religions have combined to lead a global Jonesville!

Does it matter what theists believe? You bet it does! Some years ago I saw a programme on TV about a beach in Northern Ireland where the council had just imposed a ban on farmers taking sand from the beach. Apparently they had been doing this for centuries to lighten the heavy soil, but what was no problem when they were equipped with a donkey cart and a shovel became a major problem when modern equipment started to strip the beach visibly. A local farmer, incensed by the ban, made his feelings known to the TV reporter:-
"God made the sand for our use. If we should happen to use it all we'll pray that he makes some more." There's faith for you.

that's it in a nutshell. With the two major theist religions, (Islam and Roman Catholicism)obsessed with denouncing all forms of non-reproductive sexual activity, including birth control, the population explosion will gather pace, killing all hopes of controlling the emission of greenhouse gases. The religions of the world are united in leading us to a global Jonesville.
