though i always find myself reading them, i rarely post in these threads
--but what you said about sartre, henri--that was just hurtful.
i agree with you about baudrillard--pure shite. but i think you need to give sartre another look.

"Is he really allowed to keep his job after such an opinionated partisan rant?"
that's why he has a job. that's what fox is all about.

macgruder, it seemed to me that flemming actually did very well. and while nobody should ever expect to make anybody who watches fox news re-think anything, i think it's at least consciousness raising--nobody's changing their minds, but there's at least more awareness of the cause.

quote from ldmiller:
"It is surprising that you haven't encountered him."
actually, happyprimate, if you're in the states (as i am) i'm not at all surprised you haven't encountered him.
i never really knew about him until only 6 years ago (and i'm 31). most people i've talked to about him only know him as a linguist if they know about him at all.
here in the states, he doesn't get much media coverage except on locally run independent radio stations (360 vision is on vision-tv which is a canadian cable station).
but you can find his books in most bookstores ("imperial ambitions" is a good one to start with).
edit: one other thing; though many on the left identify with his criticisms of u.s. foreign policy, his political beliefs don't really fit on the left-right spectrum. chomsky is an anarchist.

response to posts #3 by 601 & #6 by vadjong.
this theory of consciousness is also very similar to daniel dennet's "multiple drafts model" of consciousness that he introduces in his book "consciousness explained"
