1. Soldier Sues Army, Saying His Atheism Led to Threats

Comment #169838 by eyz1005 on April 26, 2008 at 11:53 pm

I was in the Marine Corps. There was an Atheist in boot camp that was forced to go to church, this was before I was an atheist. Other than that he was treated like everyone else, but it was still wrong. When I got to the fleet I had an atheist in my platoon, he wasn't treated any differently because he was an atheist, everyone just called him a devil worshipper. It was all in good fun, everyone had funny nicknames. I wasn't an officer and didn't associate with officers, some of the higher ups were dicks, I could imagine scrutiny from them. I don't think their is that much prejudice against atheists in the armed forces, we were all like brothers. But there are assholes like Major Welborn and he should be reprimanded and this type of treatment should be discouraged. It would have been in my platoon.

Modesty in the medical field? What about your paitent going for a digital prostate exam or a colonoscolpy? Don't wanna get shit on your sleeve do you? Or when they have to get butt naked for a physical exam, hopefully Allah isn't watching, he might be upset.

Why go into the medical field if you are not willing to improve patients lives? Lets just infect everybody with MRSA in order to remain modest. Not only are they putting themselves at risk but they're putting every patient they come into contact with at risk for developing life threatening complications.

Very funny and well liked by the audience, don't think an American audience like on Jay Leno or David Lettermen would be as accepting, still too taboo.

8. Bill Maher - APATHEIST

Bill Maher is popular in California so a lot of people will listen to him, I don't think he sounds like a retard so it is probably a good thing. If he has changed his mind on religion does it really matter. As long as he makes sense and has changed his mind for a good reason it is a good thing. He's good for PR.

9. Does God answer prayer? ASU research says 'yes'

Comment #25985 by eyz1005 on March 15, 2007 at 11:46 pm

The Benson and associates' study is less controversial than other studys done. A lot of other studies are invalid because of fraud and lack of controls. Even if prayer is proved to be helpful it does not mean that God is answering your prayers. It is just a placebo effect. Placebos have been proven to work, sometimes better than a drug with a therapeutic effect. How did a peer reviewed journal allow this study to be published? I can see why a journal on social work might be interested on the effects of prayer. Their aim is to improve someones quality of life. If prayer is a patients only source of hope(poor guy) then a social workers responsibility is to promote hope and healing and to point out ways of coping, such as prayer. Meditation, deep breathing, and other relaxation techniques can also improve peoples health. To say that the therapeutic effect is by divine intervention is retarded. There is no scientific proof of that.
