1. Car dealership advert tells atheists to 'shut up'

Comment #185411 by Circumspect on May 27, 2008 at 6:49 pm

It's so stupid that it hardly needs a response... but if I were to suggest a response it would probably be a billboard campaign in that locale. For those who don't already know, California culture is pretty backward and trashy in certain inland and rural areas.

3. It looks like Man crucified

Comment #148485 by Circumspect on March 23, 2008 at 7:37 am

Sounds like a maladjusted atheist who had a few drinks before writing this... getting all sentimental for the good old days and religion. And that part about the decline in political belief -- I guess he means the decline in his political belief. This sort of writing makes even the Dinesh D'Souzas of the world sound rational.

4. This Is Not a Test

Comment #99913 by Circumspect on December 17, 2007 at 8:26 pm

Reverend Huckelberry could well become our next Pastor-In-Chief precisely because the 58 million dumb-asses who voted for Dubbya are still out there and know nothing except how to march to the polls and vote their religion. EVERYONE SPEAK OUT! NOW!

5. Debate between Christopher Hitchens and Dinesh D'Souza

Comment #81470 by Circumspect on October 24, 2007 at 7:22 pm

D'Souza reminds me of the over-confident half-wits we all remember from student government in high school. He appears as a creepy amalgam of Ralph Reed, Ann Coulter (who used to be his main fuck--how revolting), and Bashar al Assad (habitual lies and weak chin). Hitch, unfortunately, appears not to have been at one-hundred percent here... or he would have killed the little shit with a mere glance.

6. Debate between Christopher Hitchens and Alister McGrath

Comment #79293 by Circumspect on October 16, 2007 at 6:36 pm

About McGrath: What is this dumb-ass talking about? He's like nails on a chalkboard. Are all Irishmen of his generation this twisted and warped by religion? Hitch is good, as usual, but he is repeating himself a lot now days -- maybe unavoidable since his primary assertions are hard to improve upon.

7. Christopher Hitchens and David Allen White discuss the impact of Christianity on Western Civilization

Comment #63261 by Circumspect on August 13, 2007 at 5:39 pm

White has gone straight through the looking glass... the most nonsensical reasoning I've heard in a long time... and why Hitchens is so polite to him is beyond me.

8. Bill Maher - APATHEIST

Comment #35658 by Circumspect on April 28, 2007 at 6:25 am

Kind-of astonishing to hear the petty complaints. I'm grateful for anyone with public visibility who speaks up against religious nonsense -- and if that person is rich and well-connected, all the better. We need all the Bill Mahers we can get.

9. Study: Religion is Good for Kids

Comment #34958 by Circumspect on April 25, 2007 at 5:55 pm

Well, of course they are likely to be WELL BEHAVED. They've been well trained to yield to authority by this age, and are already well aware of their religious identity. They also have by this time, thanks to their ever-instructive parents, a good sense of their "separate and superior" status in the world which makes for a feeling of self satisfaction and contentment. But well adjusted? Maybe they appear to be now, but check back in 10 or 15 years. I've known a great many kids like this who are utterly warped by the time they reach adulthood.

10. The Video: Bill O'Reilly Interviews Richard Dawkins

Comment #34303 by Circumspect on April 23, 2007 at 6:54 pm

Yes, a worthwhile interview in the sense that it did put the message out. Bill O. has a standard M.O. that Richard would have anticipated. So, although four minutes is totally inadequate, it's four minutes of time with millions of Fox viewers who are most likely not tuned in to any aspect of non-belief. The exposure value alone is worth it.

11. Hey Mom, I'm an Atheist

Comment #31248 by Circumspect on April 11, 2007 at 5:28 pm

Ha! It's a spoof. Looks staged. Insightful just the same. RC people I've known do swear A LOT, so that's no shock. When your mother is that foul-mouthed at least you feel at liberty to be direct with her in return! And the father just sits there silent with his drink! Classic.

12. Richard Dawkins at The Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival

Comment #28326 by Circumspect on March 28, 2007 at 6:47 pm

I was surprised by the low caliber of questions from the audience. As for McGrath... what an evasive, fraudulent windbag! Just confirms what we already knew: The sole purpose of "theologians" is to put a desperate, explanatory spin on the preposterous.

13. God and His Gays

Comment #27582 by Circumspect on March 25, 2007 at 12:42 pm

Thank you, DavidJMH, for the useful reminder that ignorance and bigotry toward gay people isn't strictly a quality of the religious. I take it you are non-religious.

14. Does Richard Dawkins exist?

Comment #21328 by Circumspect on February 8, 2007 at 5:28 pm

This is really funny and clever. If the creators of it actually meant to be negative, they shouldn't have made it so good!

15. Do stop behaving as if you are God, Professor Dawkins

Comment #21147 by Circumspect on February 7, 2007 at 6:16 pm

Hmm... "it brought purpose and dignity to life." Doesn't sound like he was ever a very serious scientist.

16. Believing In Things Unseen Is Not Delusion

Comment #21143 by Circumspect on February 7, 2007 at 6:01 pm

I've always liked and admired Jon Meacham and his commentary, but this sounds to me like someone who is vomiting up a great load of toxic nonsense in the hope that he'll be able to continue ingesting the stuff for a bit longer.

17. Arguing for Atheism

Comment #19235 by Circumspect on January 25, 2007 at 5:16 pm

Several good points made here. Shermer is, indeed, being too sensitive about the feelings of religious people who, frankly, will get quite nasty when faced with any serious challenge to their beliefs. I know many and know this first hand. There is the usual standoff... we see it again in the current dialog between Sam Harris and Andrew Sullivan (check out beliefnet). So, what to do? BTW, the essential problem isn't strictly religion, it is rigid ideology... of which religions just happen to be particularly good examples.
