1. Italian TV urged to scrap BBC film accusing Pope of abuse cover-up

The documentary Deliver Us From Evil is about this very problem. The movie presents an even more shocking scenario than this article. When the sexually abused women travel to Rome, the guards wouldn't even let the women see the pope. They weren't angry or vengeful; they actually wanted to regain their faith. I know we atheists think that's stupid, but my point is just that they weren't a threat to him. It just goes to show you how little these religious leaders care about morality - and how much they care about the church's reputation.
Oh, and I should mention this: the movie argues, quite convincingly, that, to the Catholic church, pedophilia is really nothing more than another version of 'bad sex'. So, they basically rank it up there with homosexuality. Nice, eh?

It's pretty hopeless. I just voted several times to get him up to 73. Almost immediately afterwards, some one/some people voted him back down to 72.
They're watching the chart pretty closely, methinks.

4. Panel discussion on atheism where no atheists are included

I think it's good that Dawkins' appearance got bumped. It is crucial that America learns about Anna Nicole Smith's vast contributions to humankind - like appearing in playboy and...uh...well that's impressive enough, I guess. She has big breasts - we must do a special on her!
Really, I don't mean to sound cold, and I feel bad for the family, but did she really do anything that important? And more to the point, is her life so important that CNN can't spare 4 minutes to talk about the discrimination of millions of people?

Unbelievable.
The idea behind a liberal state like Canada is that it remain neutral on the idea of what is the 'good life'. It is neutral for the very reason that there are competing nomoi in the world - each declaring different conceptions of the 'good'. States can decide what is just and unjust, but they cannot begin telling people how to live a 'good life'. When a government begins defining 'good', then it becomes more of a theocratic state.
This decision represent an assault on the fundamental idea of a liberal state.
As a Canadian, I'm deeply disturbed.
