1. Harper says new mosque shows 'the true and benevolent face of Islam'

Comment #205356 by burn0gas on July 7, 2008 at 7:29 am

When someone opens a beautiful Church of the FSM, will Harpen show up and praise it's beauty, stating that it demonstrates "the true and benevolent face of Atheism."? Will he be willing to state "This community knows first-hand what it is to experience persecution and discrimination based on your beliefs"?

p.s. Harper says, "However we define God, it is wrong to kill in his name". Obviously he hasn't read the Quran or the Bible, and doesn't understand those text's definition of God.

2. Aliens need Christ's redemption, too

Comment #201585 by burn0gas on June 29, 2008 at 8:48 pm

And when the aliens can prove to them that their God does not exist, or state that they've traveled many reaches of the universe and found no evidence of any creator of the universe, then what will they say?... Jeeezus Saaaaaaves!

Where is the National Academy of Sciences? Where is every head of every reputable university and college biology deptartment? Why isn't there a larger unified voice of proper scientists who have a massive influence in the US who can stand up and publicly voice against situations like this? Even Francis Collins, with his religious beliefs, should be standing loud and publicly to voice against this. They should all be standing up and publicly voicing against this.

5. Hints of 'time before Big Bang'

Comment #189614 by burn0gas on June 6, 2008 at 5:12 pm

So as to not confuse the general public, physicists need to stop using the word "ordered" and start using another word like homogeneous or the likes. The universe didn't start out "ordered" in the sense that the general public thinks about it - and it only builds the wall of religious fundamentalists that read the word "ordered" in the wrong way.

6. MySpace: No place for Atheists?

Comment #118630 by burn0gas on January 30, 2008 at 7:52 pm

Have the good Christians that are complaining or working at MySpace forgotten the Word of their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ?

Luke 6:27-31
27 But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

…bunch of hypocrites…

7. Interview with Richard Dawkins

Comment #116730 by burn0gas on January 27, 2008 at 9:15 am

One thing I find particularly important to point out to creationists and people who question where the intermediate species are, is that worms didn't just turn into horses, the structure is built upon a 'tree', where worms and horses have some ancient common ancestor, but it isn't necessarily so that horses are the decendents of worms nor that worms turned into horses with some half-worm half-horse creature - worms and horses are on different branches, if you will, of this tree of life. I find this idea of half[this] half[that] intermediate species such a common misunderstanding of evolution.

Damn, that was too funny!
I can't decide if I want these guys to go away or keep them around for the good laughs?

Well, off to decorate my Tree of Knowledge for the season :-)

11. CBC News: Sunday - Richard Dawkins

Comment #100529 by burn0gas on December 18, 2007 at 8:05 pm

I think Dawkins needs to come up with a better way of putting his point... instead of using "lust", perhaps use "impulse". Humans have impulses to have sex to reproduce, and we have impulses to be good to ensure reciprocal behaviour towards us from those around us. Historically, we always hung around the same people... have friends all over the place and traveling is a very modern phenomenon.

The term "lust" just isn't taken by most people in the right perspective...

Excellent, another religious leader recognizing that they finally must respond, and that this movement is real. Love it.

15. Pupil defends teacher in Muhammad teddy furore

Comment #91651 by burn0gas on November 28, 2007 at 8:36 pm

This is sick!

RELIGION POISONS EVERYTHING...

Everyone supporting this teacher should be immediately naming their Teddy bears Muhammad. Hords of people should pack plans and fly to Sudan and declare their Teddy Muhammad at immigration. Toys manufacturers should be making Teddy bear toys with little t-shirts on that have "My name is Muhammad" stitched to them. Every newspaper in the world that supports her should be printing full front page pictures of Teddy bears wearing Muhammad name tags. Just out and out overrun their entire delusion. I'm going to go get some t-shirt iron-ons and start printing my own shirts that show Teddy bears named Muhammad.

16. Taking Science on Faith

Comment #90601 by burn0gas on November 25, 2007 at 6:08 pm

faith = belief without evidence
trust = belief with evidence or good reason

The faith this article talks about is NOT "faith", it's trust. Completely different! I might say I have faith in my surgeon before surgery, but I really mean I have trust in him/her.

This screwing with the word faith is as bad as when the creationists screw with the word "theory".

richarddawkins.net, please setup the file downloads through a torrent... might help with the bandwidth problems.

18. Christopher Hitchens and Al Sharpton

Comment #53337 by burn0gas on June 30, 2007 at 9:23 pm

Gravity is caused by mass in space/time. What is Sharpton talking about God makes gravity?

Hitchens needs to pick up the quick returns on the science questions and then fire back with the question on what the proof for God is and point out that scientists don't need "God" in their equations!

19. Baptists Warned About Islam, Atheism

Thanks to the virulent strain of atheism I am no longer a fundie! What these guys are afraid of most is people thinking for themselves...

20. The Dawkins delusion

Comment #45883 by burn0gas on May 29, 2007 at 1:21 pm

This guy is wrong. I was a fundie, now turned atheist. It took me awhile to get over the my so-called faith comfort, but I feel better about life, and more excited about learning than ever before! Science and truth are wonderful, and God IS a delusion. I would like to point out that it just takes time for people like me to get over our security blankets and fears of all types, from friends and family to what God might do to us for questioning. The Internet resources and books like The God Delusion help us converts become less "wishy washy".

Keep up the great work Dr. Dawkins! There are more out there like me! And surely more to come!

21. Growing Up in the Universe: 2-Disc DVD Set

Comment #45877 by burn0gas on May 29, 2007 at 12:48 pm

Can this DVD be shown in public library settings to groups? Also, I assume it can be shown to groups of students? In other words, is there any public viewing restrictions like most Hollywood movies?

22. Those fanatical atheists

Comment #38272 by burn0gas on May 7, 2007 at 11:20 am

I've sent an email response to Dan:

Hi Dan,

Thank you for your column title "Those fanatical atheists" in the Ottawa Citizen on Sunday. Well put! I'm an ex-Christian who just couldn't continue lying to myself to justify the injustice in the Bible to defend God. I'm still the same caring loving person I always was, but now I do my good and give my love for the noble reason that I chose to, not because some personal invisible God will reward or punish me for doing so.

Many thanks and Cheers!
Mark

It's books like these that converted me from Christianity to critical thinking and rationalism.

Keep up the good work! The movement IS growing!

And the fact that he built a so-called replica and still can't fit seven pairs of most domesticated animals and one breeding pair of all other creatures doesn't phase him one bit.
