Evolution will find solutions. But it can only ever get a locally optimium solution, and not a maximally optimum solution. It's obvious that the testicals are a locally optimum solution, but yes, not a maximally optimum one. The testicals are a solution, just not the best one. There's countless examples of this that prove evolution, not disprove it. And consequently disprove intelligent design. So, let's say bollocks to the argument from design!

I used to live near a Vardy school. I'd meet a friend on the bus comming home from work. He worked at the Vardy school. He was a Christian, but a good one in the sense that his morals were better than his God's, a genuine nice person. I think his opinion of the "Christian" school was that it was very un-Christian, other than at face value, but the morals and ethics behind the scenes were suspect.

So, according to Arab News, Muslims don't want to be insulted. Let me give them some advice - don't be so insulting. And stop insulting our intelligence.
When they say "They don’t understand how much Muslims love and respect their Prophet", they don't understand that freedom and free speech are more important.
When they say "But Islam does not teach that, it advocates peace and co-existence", I say, tell your preachers, your leaders to act by example. Learn to stop crying "insult" at every opportunity, to grow up, to become big and adult.
When they say "I am afraid that the Western world has failed to understand the severity of the problem,", I say the problem of Muslims feeling insulted is entirely of their own making. Their religion is their choice. Their feelings of insult are their choice.
When I feel insulted, I know it is my choice to feel so. And right now, they have insulted me. WHen they say “I have my own reservations. Muslims are serious but the other parties are not. They are not committed. They want to hold dialogue, just for the sake of it and for Muslims’ consumption.” they insult me by ignoring the vast numbers of people on this planet with no religion who they have yet to make peace with and have shown no signs or intentions of doing so.

I watched the movie as soon as I'd heard it was online. I was disappointed that the point of the movie was not made more clearly, in that so called "moderate" Muslims need to rise up and be counted as moral human beings, who despise violence done in the name of their chosen religion, and excise passages from their holy book that promote or are used to promote such violence. I am however, happy, that the message of the movie was, when you watched it carefully, a reasonable one.
One of the reasons why the Catholics have such large numbers, is that even those who no longer believe in the tenants of that faith, don't leave the Catholic church. The problem with Islam is worse, in that there is a death sentence for any that want to leave or do leave.
So the first step is to change that. We need Muslims the world over to denounce the killing of those that leave their religion, and to enforce the basic human right of freedom of choice. It is totally morally unacceptable to intimidate or kill someone for their own freedom of choice over religion.
After that all religion needs to be put in it's place - personal beliefs to stay with the person, at home, in private.

So much for the religion of peace.
Religion has tried to confront us - and they keep losing. Why? Because they lie, they cheat, and they're just plain wrong. Man's moral sense is so much better than their awful gods'.
Man does not think eternal torment is a good thing. God does.
Man does not believe in killing children. God does.

vertigo25, I don't think this is a race or racist issue. Religion is a matter of personal choice, and therefore not something your born with, and therefore not racist. It may be religist, if there's such a word, but it isn't racist. Muslims like to play the race card, and in doing so undermine true discrimination against people for what they're born with and have no choice over, like colour of skin, sex, sexuality and ability/disability.

Why don't the Canadian troops over there take the moral high ground and go in and rescue this guy and bring him to Canada with his family to live? Then at least I'd feel that the Canadian troops there are doing something worthwhile.
But again, this an another example of intolerant Islam, the Islam that can dish out whatever criticism it feels like, but dare to criticize Islam, it's prophet, the prophet's under-age wife, the prophet's hair-do or whatever and it's "death sentence" time.
I'm sorry, but killing people is just wrong. There are cases say, where you as an individual must kill in self defense, but that is not the case here. This is a case where those in religious power cannot stand knowledge or criticism so they kill to terrify and control the people of that country.

25. Disquiet over schools' moment of silence
Comment #103142 by PrimeNumbers on December 24, 2007 at 11:03 am
What's wrong with it? It's the thin end of the wedge! Just because it's called "silence" the teachers know what it means, and the children know what it means, and it means "prayer".
And we all know what peer pressure is like at that age.... We very well know that this is Christian prayer in schools by the back door, and yes, we all know that prayers before council meetings are un-constitutional as well.
Religion, as we know, is a dirty habit and should be kept in private. The practice of religion has no place in our halls of government, no place in our schools.
As for the notion of "saving strength" for the "big battles" - how on earth do you hope to get people to fight the big ones, if you can't at least win a few border skirmishes to get some practice in? Through the means of mass communication, we can show the world that their morals don't come from religion, that life has a greater beauty and meaning because there is not a god. We can point out the absurdities of the fruitcake religious nutters. We will get no where letting Christian bullies walk all over our rights, walk all over our humanity.

I don't think there's an Atheist out there that if God payed a personal visit to, and explained it all, did a few miracles and gave them a tour of Heaven, that the Atheist wouldn't then say, oops, I was wrong, I'm now a believer. That's not fundamentalism, but reason. Now put it the other way.... For 2000 or so years Christians have been presented with the facts, and that the facts say their religion makes no sense, is amoral, that their fictitious god character is amoral, evil and just plain nasty, and for 2000 years they've not changed their minds. If that's not fundamentalism, I don't know what is....

Science, the process, can investigate any phenomena we can perceive. Are there things science can't tell us - yes. But does it matter? No, because religion and faith can't tell us anything at all useful. Religion mixes truth, if it has any, with human desires, in such a way that one cannot tell one from the other.
Any religious answer to a problem basically boils down to "godditit", and that is not an answer, but merely begs the question of "god?", and that is not answered by "godditit" unless you're postulating an infinite regress of gods.

They are the ones with stupid rules and stupid brain-dead ideas. They are the barbarians, they are the aggressors.
Perhaps this teacher did do something wrong: she went to help educate this backward country, a country that obviously doesn't want her help, doesn't want education, doesn't want a future, doesn't want peace. She was wrong to help a bunch of ungrateful morons.
What's the solution? Demand a: an apology (lots of cash works good for this), b: release, c: that law be abolished. If those are not forthcoming, severe sanctions against Sudan, culminating in military action to free this teacher if necessary.
Muslims the world over need to know that their beliefs are not special, that they don't single them out for special treatment, and don't allow them to get away with the kind of barbarism and lack of respect that they're showing. And until "so called moderate muslims" stand up and not just condemn these actions but the ludicrous laws and rules, and stop blaming the teacher, they will be lumped in with these morons.

I don't think he wants anything less than a Sharia law state within a state, and that to me is treason. Quite frankly, you're right - he should be brought before parliament and asked these questions again, and when he answers the same, he should be told that he's no longer welcome here and he should leave. And then he should be put on a plane somewhere that more suits his needs.

This Dr Bari is scary. He is absolutely not moderate in any way shape or form. This Dr Bari is exactly the kind of dangerous religious nutter we need to be shaming and ridiculing. His remarks on Rushdie alone should set him up for immediate deportation, his gross intolerance should have him deported ten times over.
Muslims have got to learn a few things....
Their religion doesn't make them special,
it doesn't put them above the rule of law,
it doesn't mean they can be treated differently to anyone else.
they're not liked because of the very words this so called leader of Muslims has just spoke.
That they are the problem, not us.
That if they keep going on like this, they'll not only be disliked, but be acted against to stop them preaching their doctrine of hate and intolerence.
Dr Bari should have:
Said, "although I personally don't agree with the Knighting of Sir Rushdie, I accept that he has been honoured, and that I regret that some Muslims have been distressed by this, but in a free and democratic society, we must learn to be tolerant of those we disagree with."
"Although I don't agree with adultary, stoning is absolutely wrong"
"Although I don't agree with homosexuality, they must not be harmed or discriminated against."
"Books that advocate violence should not be on sale in Mosques. I will make it my mission to remove such books from all Mosques in the UK because I understand that they are giving people a very bad impression of Muslims"
Now, he had the opportunity to show us all that Muslims are nice, decent people who don't want to impose themselves onto society, that they want to integrate and live in a democatic, secular society. But he didn't. He's got to go. He really does need to leave the UK and go somewhere else.

Inquisition

Hitler (repeat this a few times - it really annoys them to have one of their own go so bad and not be condemed by head office)
Hell

anyone care to add to the list?
