1. Teaching Evolution in Mexico: Preaching to the Choir
Comment #206602 by sindiosxfa on July 8, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Interesting article. My experience living in Mexico is very much in agreement with what this article mentions, and yes I`ve encountered those missionaries from the USA but I politely have given them the middle finger. One thing that I noticed recently (couple of years) is the constant mentioning of god in television, we do have a conservative party (PAN) in charge of government which coincides with the timing and that might explain the constant god-praising. I do hope that Mexico does not become like the USA in terms of the anti-evolution tug-of-war being fought there, but still I believe that there is much more freedom to criticize the church up north (USA) than there is here. Since becoming atheist, I have been outcast from certain social circles and have even been threaten with death when I discuss my views about the Catholic Church.

I don't know about you, but it seems less scary being invaded by Mexicans in USA than being invaded by Muslims in Europe.
I just hate it when it is put this way. No parallels could be drawn between Muslims and Mexicans.
Yes, most people here in Mexico are catholic but there is a growing number of atheists, former Catholics who are fed up with religion.
As for the invasion well there is mc Donald's, burger king, kentucky fried chicken in every corner here, Microsoft, apple Inc. etc, etc, etc. and many US citizen coming to Mexico for the sole purpose of evangelizing the most uneducated and vulnerable. Scary?

6. Supporters of abortion have no future in Church, Pope tells faithful

I wonder if the pope will excommunicate retroactively or just going forward, either way they will loose many faithful. I think this is a strategy (scare tactic)that will not work in their benefit. How dare the Pope coming to Latin America with ancient stories trying to continue enslaving the minds of people. I agree that there is rampant ignorance all over the area but not as much as maybe 20 years ago when the popeīs word was unquestioned. No mas Papa!!!

Richard, Congratulations. This, definitely is an excellent achievement. May the next book shatters the walls of irrationality completely (whishful thinking).
We need the professor to publish these books in spanish and make them available in Mexico and Latin America. We need someone of his caliber to take a fight with the church here. I think it will be interesting in light of the current increased awareness in atheism. Cheers from Mexico.

This was a far better interview than CNNīs with Paula. I wish at least that this kind of topics were discussed on Mexican TV. I am tired of watching politicians and TV personalities talk about converting to Christianity and how they have been saved but again this is a country where religion holds the upper hand and we have plenty of gullible people.
Cheers from Mexico

I saw the story this morning. It is interesting to see someone looking for DNA of a being that that most probably never existed. Garbage.. Mr. Cameronīs only motivation is more money... That is it.

I would like to see included in the Brussels Declaration a part where children remain free of religion until they are old enough to choose if they want to believe or not.

Chili smoke killed the dinosaurs and made god go away and no where to be found. ah, and thatīs why pepper spray should be branded as evil...Letīs all unite against using chili to make god appear again and who knows maybe dinosaurs could come back too.
