1. Sam Harris at AAI 07

Although I understand where Sam is coming from philosophically, I think it is time for us to develop a voice and a name that could help us to become more effective politically and socially, not be dismissed as a disunited and fractured groups. I certainly do not like the name "atheist" because it means we are what they "the theists" are not. I think we are much more that that! I have always favored "Rationalists" because it describes us as non-dogmatic and much like science, open to new discoveries and changes. It gives us independence from the past.

2. Response to Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris

I am glad that finally a Thiest actually admits that there are bad parts in religion: "worst of religion". Thus far they have claimed that the all powefull, all knowing God is infallible and there is nothing wrong with all the "wrongs in religion". So I think there might be a slight hope for these people. Evolution works wonders.

3. Is America Too Damn Religious?

Comment #22660 by Jason E. on February 20, 2007 at 10:35 am

I came to the US in 1972 from Iran at the age of seventeen and moved into an American Family home in the Midwest. My very first observation and experience was about how encapsolated Americans were by thier religion. You must know that I grew up amongst the most fanatical religious fondamentalists and I still found religion in America to be more controlling of its people than Islam in Iran. Of course the Shah was still in power in Iran and the Western influence on the culture was great. However, religion in America is the dominent force and it has got much worse than when I came here some thirty five years ago.
So, yes, I agree, America is too damn religious!
