1. Writer Arthur C Clarke dies at 90

Comment #146475 by Lordsuhn on March 19, 2008 at 5:56 am

A great author who will be sorely missed. I regret that I never got a chance to meet him.

I hope that they do the Rendezvous with Rama movie right, since he isn;t here to ensure that they don't mess it up.

2. Stop revisionist Christian nation House Resolution 888

unfortunately my Rep recently passed away, and her replacement has yet to be chosen, so I may not have any influence on this on - but I went to the page and filled it out to show my support!

Stranger is a Strange Land is one of my favorite books. And I agree - everyone should read it and grok it. ;)

I understand your sentiments, but unfortunately, we still do need Saudi oil. But the more we pressure our governments to support alternative fuels, the closer we will come to being independant of oil producing countries in the middle east.

The Borders in downtown Indianapolis was the same as the one in Kansas City (as mentioned by bluebird) when I bought TGD last year. It had quite a few books on the subject. Frankly, I was very surprised.

6. Pentagon Sued Over Mandatory Christianity

I have to agree with Flagellant, if it gets to the Supreme Court, the shills on that court will find in favor of the pentagon. America is doomed to ingnorance for a generation. A modern dark age, if you will.

Good vid.

I wish I could go to this convention - all of the people I woiuld like to hear speak in one place. May never happen again. But I just don't have the money right now.

8. Richard Dawkins and the New Age fakers

Comment #63089 by Lordsuhn on August 13, 2007 at 5:03 am

Wow Summer Seal, that is some serious anger you have there. I must say, and I don't mean to offend, that your rhetoric sounds similar to that of the people you hate so much.

They too want to kill all who they feel are threatening their values. While I agree the values of religious fundamentalists are to be opposed, I do not agree with the tactics of slaughter.

Do I have a solution? No, I wish I did, but I would not advocate genocide. I hope that your words are hyperbolic.

And again, I hope I haven't offended you, but you seem to be running on hate and anger as opposed to reason.

9. Science education requires overcoming childhood understanding

Comment #44549 by Lordsuhn on May 25, 2007 at 4:21 am

I think what they are missing is the primacy effect. Even though most Americans trust scientists, if the scientists contradict knowledge that was gained at an early age, people are likely to stick with their existing understanding. This might be where the cliche "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" came from. Perhaps the 'dog' refers to understanding itself as opposed to the simply person.

10. Atheists: Get off of our country!

Comment #44543 by Lordsuhn on May 25, 2007 at 4:13 am

How can you argue with such scholarly logic. I guess I'd better go pack my bags.

But first, can we clarify which god you have to believe in?

11. Creationist Periodic Table of the Elements

LOL,"Dimitri Mendeleev, Russian Bigamist"

This is great satire.

12. Hitchens on Falwell

Comment #41825 by Lordsuhn on May 17, 2007 at 6:30 am

I am amazed that Anderson Cooper let him say as much as he did. i am used to these shows interupting people with irrelevant questions. Hitchens was able to get his point of view across very clearly.

13. Convention ends with Satan and immigrants

Comment #36192 by Lordsuhn on April 30, 2007 at 12:58 pm

Wow . . .just . . .wow. What can you say to that? How do you argue with such inanity?

14. Bill Maher - APATHEIST

Comment #35406 by Lordsuhn on April 27, 2007 at 4:36 am

I must admit that I am amazed that so many people here are so judgemental. So what if you don't like Bill Maher, I for one don't care- what do you think about his arguments? Is there any truth in what he is saying and has said?

Seriously, enough of the character evaluations, this is supposed to be a forum of resonable and clear-thinking inquirey.

15. Study: Religion is Good for Kids

Comment #35086 by Lordsuhn on April 26, 2007 at 6:52 am

The thing that jumped out to me in this article was the fact that it was a sef-report study. The questionnaires will be highly influential on the outcome if they are not properly validated. There appears to be a demand characterstic threat to internal validity. I hypothesize that a family that considers itself very religious is more likely to report only behavior that is acceptable, while overlooking poor behavior. I have certainly observed parents unable to accept any of their childs behaviour as bad.

Of course the proof will be in the methods, once they are published.

16. 'The Day They Kicked God out of the Schools' & Rebuttal

Comment #34175 by Lordsuhn on April 23, 2007 at 12:50 pm

One thing I kept thinking was, "Man the religious right really likes straw man arguments."
My next thought was "why isn't basic logic required in all schools?"

17. Nisbet and Mooney in the WaPo: snake oil for the snake oil salesmen

Comment #32013 by Lordsuhn on April 15, 2007 at 8:10 am

And it certainly is true that Dawkins puts an exclamation point on godlessness, and good for him. The path we've taken in the past, the cautious avoidance of the scarlet letter of atheism, has not worked. Dawkins represents a different, bolder, more forthright approach — we are staking out a place in the public discourse and openly discussing our concerns, rather than hiding in fear of that old Puritan scowl. We will not go back in the closet.

Fantastic, I love this paragraph! It really struck a cord with me.

18. Prophets of the new atheism

Comment #30681 by Lordsuhn on April 9, 2007 at 10:09 am

"the Baylor study found not one atheist African American."

Where are these polls being taken, I keep getting missed?

I knew I was rare, but wow, not one in any poll I've ever seen?

19. Neil Peart cites The God Delusion in new album's liner notes

Comment #28484 by Lordsuhn on March 29, 2007 at 11:19 am

WOW Frankus1122, you went to the "Down the Tubes" tour? Caress of Steel is one of my favorite RUSH albums.

I wonder if they have an explicit atheistic song on this album?
