1. Atheists and believers have got religion wrong

IanG that is probable one of the most succinct description I have ever heard. I think I'll pass that along to a couple of polysci teachers I know.

2. The Bible's literary sins

I completely agree with the article.

If you are interested Slate did something interesting and "blogged" the bible.

Strictly speaking it was only the old testament but…

An explanation of the project is here: http://slate.com/id/2141050/

The complete set of links to the series is here: http://www.slate.com/id/2150150/

A Google search for "Alms for Jihad" turns up a bunch of hits. Also though the author doesn't mention it at the moment Amazon has it for DOWNLOAD for $9.99 here:

4. For Muslim Extremists, Religion Matters

Comment #54301 by wolf1168 on July 6, 2007 at 10:05 am

Interesting article, nice to see someone besides our usual three or four speakers on this topic jumping into the hot water.

I know that Harris, RD and Hitchens have all spoken on this topic and in much harsher terms but this is a start.

To a limited degree it sounds like the argument that Sam Harris makes in his book "The End of Faith." The only problem is that according to TEF (starting on p117 and going through p123) Harris shows (by quoting the Koran) that to reform Islam would mean removing a great deal of their "word of god."

Until more of this type of article shows up, showing that it is about religion to the bombers not just them being held down, there will not be a real discussion of the sickness that religion is and/or justifies.

5. Unorthodox Atheist

Another example that there is hope (too bad we have to look so hard to find such *sigh*) that someday being well read and intelligent will be more important than going to the right worship facility.

Way to go Braden

9. Jesus 'Love-Bombs' You

I think have seen this BS in action.

A couple of my (ex)friends were going to be an integral part of my wedding (secular) but over time, and since being invited they have drifted further and further away, saying they were busy with church etc...

Now with a sanctimonious shake of their heads they say that since "their lord is not invited" they won't make it.

Talk about crap, and the part that really Pi**** me off is that they feel a sense of superiority because I'm not Christian. If this is the teaching of their great teacher (you know, all that great love your neighbor stuff), not only can they shove it but "keep it too themselves" might be nice also. But such is not the way of elitists.

*sigh* As some other friends have said "weddings show you who your real friends are."

Though the Economist is very good at what they do I get the feeling that this report was somewhat sympathetic to the the creationists as opposed to their normal attempt at neutrality.

Maybe this rise in religious claptrap is just another sign that the end is near *smile*

I know this has been said here before but I just have to say it again. If the creationists are right then they need to quit going to doctors asking for drugs because without Darwinian thinking none of the drugs we know today would exist.

Which leads us to what someone may have said (I never have found attribution): "When a small man casts a long shadow the sun is assuredly setting."
