I wrote a letter to the President of University of Minnesota last week, before I saw this post here on the RDF site.

My letter:

Dear President Robert Bruininks,

I am a reader of the Pharyngula blog written by Professor PZ Myers. I have read about the Catholic League's attempts to interfere with the free speech rights of Professor Myers by inciting Catholics to write you to complain about things that Professor Myers has written in his blog. I urge you to disregard the so-called "outrage" over the blog posts on the subject of the "Eucharist" (the communion cracker deemed "holy" by Catholics). What is sacred to some is hilarious to others, and vice versa. For every Catholic who complains, there are two non-Catholics who find the entire matter to be a joke.

Please do not worry about the complaints from those who are easily offended by comments about a cracker. This whole thing is just silly.

I don't see the Reason Project as any competition to the Secular Web at all. The Reason Project specifically seeks submissions of articles that are already published elsewhere. The Secular Web does have some old material archived (such as the works of Robert Ingersoll) but strives to obtain new material. It does not look like the Reason Project is interested in new unpublished material.

I thought that ABC's editing of the RRS debate was biased toward the Banana Twins. Sapient and Kelly did well, especially considering that this was probably the first time they appeared in public before such a large live audience.

It's interesting that this week is "Atheism Week" on ABC, but I've heard from several people that ABC's viewpoint on the various shows was somewhat biased against atheists. Still, it's good to see the media paying some attention, even if the attention isn't quite favorable. I wonder if the audience can see through the spin.

Town: "We wish to inform these new arrivals that the way of life which they abandoned when they left their countries of origin cannot be recreated here," the declaration reads.

It's not a bad idea, really. If they want to oppress women, they should not move to a place where women are equal. I understand the town's position. In some towns, the government or local service agencies have had to cater to the religious beliefs and practices of new immigrants; for example, putting up barriers to hide swimmers in public pools. This is silly! In our society, we don't separate genders. People moving to our countries should not try to impose their religious beliefs on our culture.

Here's my message:

"Thanks to Nightline for covering the Blasphemy Challenge story with fairness.

There are roughly 30 million nonbelievers in the USA, and many various ways to reach them to encourage them to be visible. The Rational Response Squad's Blasphemy Challenge may be controversial to some, but it has opened the doors that mainstream atheist groups haven't even knocked on.

Atheists are an unseen minority in America, making it easy for us to be hated. As more nonbelievers speak out and identify themselves, it will become harder for people to discriminate against us simply for not sharing their faith.

As a secular activist I have followed the Blasphemy Challenge story closely, and I appreciate Nightline's reasoned reporting method.

Thank you for devoting the time to covering this small, vocal segment of the atheist community. Please be aware that there are thousands more atheists out there who are unaffiliated with any group or website, not to mention thousands more, such as myself, who are members of various freethought groups.

We are a very diverse population and I hope that future reports address this fact. Please continue educating America about the many different types of people who do not share anyone's views on religion or the existence of supernatural beings."

Sapient tried to help me with YouTube on Friday (earlier today), but I was unable to connect or record my clip.

When I can get it to work, I will record a clip in which I deny the holy spirit. I'll make separate videos for my children and my spouse.
