1. Science leads to killing people

So why is he promoting anti-intellectualism and retardation?

Political agenda? Personal gain? Mental illness?

Good point. How about this.

Simply, the right wants to destroy education because uneducated people seem to vote repulican.

Religious people seem to vote republican.

The Right fears socialism (national healthcare) because when a country seems to embrace socialism the seem to slowly leave their religion behind.

It is all about keeping their God alive.

I would love to hear what you people think about this?

If so, she's got nothing on Stephen Colbert. At least there's no question it's satire with The Colbert Report. I can't tell with Coulter, and I'd hate to be taken for a ride without at least KNOWING it's just a ride. ;)

Some people look at Ann Coulter and think she is the anti-christy of the left. I look at her as our greatest ally. Fred Phelps is our greatest ally.

Their craziness knows no bounds.

I presume he's getting reasonably well paid for this. I'm appalled, though of course I shall go along. He'll have an international audience of fairly well educated people, I'll be surprised if he has the audacity to mention Expelled or any of his dodgy politics. Will report back after the event....

Dear Hipster,

Please, Please, Please do. Record his session or get a copy of the speech. Inquiring minds want to know.

If you get it, submit it to Dawkins and he can put it on the site for all of us.

By the way, is there anyway to follow threads with these converstaions? If there is a way to follow conversations, I don't know what it is.

This guy is on our side right? That can be the only explanation.

V'Ger...

Maybe that's the point. Maybe he is being crazy to make a point about religion and make money for the movie.

I have a theory that Ann Coulter is really on our side. She just acts crazy to point out the lunacy of the far right. And the craziness allows her to sell books and make money.

If it true, she is a genius.

I think I'm going to vomit now. I swear I felt my IQ drop several points just from listening to Stein's remarks.

Ben Stein is NOT a stupid man. His resume is quite outstanding. He was a speech writer for Nixon for Chirst sake. You don't get asked to do that by being an idiot. ( Yes, and I am not so sure that George Bush is as stupid as he is made out to be. I just can't believe you get to be a Governor and President by being as stupid as the media makes him out to be. I think I fall with Al Franken on this one. "George Bush doesn't mind being underestimated, as long as he is underestimated for the wrong reasons." )

I have always been a Ben Stein fan. That is what is so disturbing hearing his comments on one of the religious channels.

How do you get to be Ben Stein and believe the things he does.

Anyone?

As a fellow gay person, I'm outraged.

Uhh, that's...I'm Happy, Not Gay. Or is it the other way around?

God, I'm confused.

9. Investigating Atheism

Comment #168220 by Phadrus on April 24, 2008 at 7:06 pm

Your right "Comment 92" jo5ef.

I visited the website before I read any of the comments here.

Without really thinking about the website, I smelled a particular fishy smell.

What I am not sure about, is what they expect to get from us, and what will they do with this information?

But, the website is Snazzy-Cool !!!

But, I'm not buying it.

How about you?

10. If God Is Dead, Who Gets His House?

Comment #166328 by Phadrus on April 23, 2008 at 6:29 am

I was thinking about your comment about your cycling and running groups and I wonder if part of the whole church attraction isn't because it's so much easier.

I mean, other hobbies might require a lot more energy, and being that laziness seems to be epidemic in our cultures, it could be a contributing factor.t

This comment comes from SharonMcT.

I had never heard of this. Good point. I will think about this some more.

11. If God Is Dead, Who Gets His House?

Comment #165717 by Phadrus on April 22, 2008 at 5:30 am

I myself would like to have a "church" where atheists meet. It doens't have to be called a church, but a place where like minded people meet and refine what they believe in.

I would like to meet other atheists and talk to them and share our experiences not just in the non-belief field but in everyday life. A Sunday water-cooler, if you like. I don't feel that I have enough contact with my neighbors, enough communion (some would say) and I feel this is missing and could be put in place by a "local" meeting place.

As I understand it, there used to be local bars a long time ago. You could walk down to the corner and find it. It was a meeting place for people in the neighborhood. It would be nice to have that again.

I also agree with Sam Harris and Bill Maher who reject the term "atheist". I hate this term and cringe when people use it to describe me. I am never referred to as a non-child molester, or a non-fairiest or a non-unicorn person. I don't see why I should be branded with the term non-theist; atheist.

But the other terms for non-theist are equally cold and science-y; except "Bright" which does sound conceited to me; if you are not a "Bright" then you must be "non-bright". It may be true in a way, but that doesn't sound very nice to me.

Humanist, Rationalist, there is nothing wrong with these terms except they cold and unfeeling and leave me flat.

Does anyone else have a term for atheists that does not feel so rigid or hard? What about terms that are not in general use? Can anyone come up with any?

12. Resentment Over Darwin Evolves Into a Documentary

Comment #165539 by Phadrus on April 21, 2008 at 3:58 pm

50% of the population is below average intelligence.

As sad as it is, most of the U.S. population does not think critically. Most people in the U.S. does not know what we mean by "thinking critically.

I have seen voters time and time again vote AGAINST their best interest. This puzzled me something fierce. I must admit that this phenomena still bothers me from time to time.

I don't like calling 2/3 of the population "idiots", but I don't know any kind way to put it. It sounds elitest, it sounds non-pc, it sounds terrible, but that is the only thing that I can make out of this and all the other weird things people in the U.S. do.

Other than public education. I don't know how to fix the problem.

Anyone else want to comment?

I don't know about you, but I've about reached the limit on what I can take or what I can read on atheism. How many times can you state the same old ideas over and over again and not get any result.

What I could use from you people is some good news right now. More kids are atheists. Religion is on the wain.

Is there any of this to be found?

I've taken to dressing the comedy route of wearing bits of pirate garb and people ask me about the Flying Spagetti Monster. At least it can be fun.

I am just feeling sorry for us all and I need some good news.

15. Falwell says Christians shouldn't focus on global warming

Comment #37781 by Phadrus on May 5, 2007 at 5:00 pm

Of course, I heard on tv somewhere, probably on the Colbert report that said that there are a large number of Christian believers that think Jesus will be returning this year.

If Jesus is returning, then why worry about global warming.

16. Dawkins says religion is 'like sucking a dummy'

Comment #29511 by Phadrus on April 3, 2007 at 7:06 am

I am at a loss. What does "dummy" mean in this context?

To me, "sucking on a dummy" doesn't make any sense.

Unless it's a British thing.

17. Why there are almost no genuine atheists

Comment #24537 by Phadrus on March 7, 2007 at 6:22 am

I once asked a Christian friend why he was a believer "after" he knew that I was an Atheist. His response was that, 'whithout a belief in God, we would all commit rape and incest and kill one another'. It never occured to him that I was a non-believer and have never done any of these things.

So, I asked him, what kept me from doing all of this nasty stuff he had just mentioned, and he just looked at me blankly. He didn't have an answer. Whats more, he had never thought about me being an Atheist and what kept me doing the moral thing.
