This message is for Americans. The sooner the United Christian States of America gives up this bullshit of people thinking there is a "god" and those dickheads making life a misery for sensible Scientists the better. The United Christian States of America is becoming a backward 3rd world nation because these bible thumpers get to those in power and cause a chaos in education, especially science education.
4. Blasphemy
Comment #122618 by eccles on February 5, 2008 at 4:29 pm
It is bad enough that some countries have state laws against blasphemy, England, I believe is reviewing these laws. But to have these laws that ban blasphemy against a fictious "god", is mad. I disagree with the Swearing of an Oath in the name of a "God". At least most courts of law permit an Afirmation.

Funny thing - my History teacher at Jesuit College was a Father Morris, Edmund Morris.
This Fr. Jon Morris makes the usual mistake, thinking there is a "God". Anyone who has not been brainwashed knows there is no "God".
Comment #87640 by eccles on November 12, 2007 at 4:46 pm
I have just finished reading Dan Dennett "Breaking the Spell". Like Richard Dawkins whom he often quotes he is against brainwashing kids into religion before they are old enough to know what it is all about.
Kids early education should not have any religion until they are taught simple science so they will know that there is no God, no Creation. Then they can be taught about the different religions in a way that does not claim that any of them is based any any facts, that they are no different from any fictional stories. I am horrified when parents give their kids bible story books and claim they are true. They are no different from "Harry Potter".

"Religion has led to some wonderful life-affirming creative endeavours - the ceiling of the Cistine Chapel"
Now lets get real here. Of what benefit to the humman masses is the Cistine Chapel ceiling. I have seen it. That was before millions of dollars were spent on restoring it instead of looking after the poor and ill. It also emphasizes the BS in the bible about a "god", heaven, hell and whatever other BS the Church exists on. I have nothing against Art. I'm a classical organist and used to be a photographer.

I was never happy as a Roman Catholic, especially when I was dragged to Mass evey Sunday against my will to hear the same bullshit over and over again and be told by some brainwashed "Hell and Damnation" priest that I would burn in the fires of Hell for my sins. Most of the so-called sins were invented by the Church especially by the Irish Nuns who were sadists.

What a load of bullshit is this quackery and superstition nonsense. My late mother, a Roman Catholic (and a thick one) many years ago started going to a homeopath on the recommendation of some Nuns. He would "examine" her and give her some tiny bottles of coloured lolywater and charge her like a wounded bull. My father and I saw through his fakery and stopped he from going to him.

Comment #47021 by eccles on June 2, 2007 at 7:22 pm
I am a Card Carry Atheist and an Australian and live in an area (Gold Coast) where one hardly ever hears religion discussed. Most people I meet don't believe in the biblegod, some think there is "something out there", but they know very little about Science. I am an Astronomer. That is why I gave up the stupidity of Roman Catholicism. As far as the Australian media is concerned, especially "Rupert's Rags", they tend to lean slighlty towards Christianity.
Most Australians are not interested in discussing religion, or prefer to keep it to themselves. Americans are different. As an Atheist I would never consider setting foot on American soil again due to the attitude towards Atheists.

I am reading FORGERY IN CHRISTIANITY
A Documented Record of the Foundations of the
Christian Religion
by
Joseph Wheless
http://altreligion.about.com/library/texts/bl_forgerychristianity.htm
I am a bedraggled refugee from the "Holy" Roman Catholic Church and all my life I had doubts about it's bullshit. I split from it about 30 years ago. Wheless tells the whole sordid tale of the foundation of Christianity, how it is based on forgeries, deception and lies perpetuated from the times of the early Church Fathers to the present day. I have no doubts now that there is no "god" and that Jesus the Nazarene was not the "Son of God". The sooner Christians read this stuff and throw away that stupid buybull the better.

Comment #41241 by eccles on May 15, 2007 at 5:03 pm
For 2000 years mankind has been hoodwinked by the likes of Falwell into believing in a "god". They have based it in the worst book of bullshit ever written: the "Holy" Bible. Nobody has any proof there is a "god" and in spite of what he thought Jerry Falwell could not prove there was/is a "god". He certainly can't now as there is neither a "heaven" or "hell" to go to. The problem is that he will never know. I feel sorry for the millions of misguided Christians in America who believe in a "god" on the basis of all the bullshit preaching by these con-men.
20. Why Christopher Hitchens is not Great
Comment #40663 by eccles on May 14, 2007 at 4:39 pm
I admit I have not read Hitchens, but from what I see here is the rantings of another fool: McCullough. I call anyone who believes in a "God" a fool. If only these "believers" would read about the foundations of Christianity they would see that they are based on forgeries, a huge case of plagiarism in the form of the bible and for 2000 years "believers" have been hoodwinked into this by people who want to control them. Just look at the history of the "Holy" Roman Catholic Church since it was founded by Constantine I. Look at the oppression of all non-believers, especially during the Holy Inquisition. Most Catholic Doctrine like the "Virgin" Mary is recent and that is based on a mistranslation of a word meaning "young girl".

What I don't understand is how, in the 21st Century the citizens of a country they claim to be the most advanced and powerfull in the World can still be sucked in by that bible crap. Have any of these people actually sat down and read the bible properly with open minds and seen how much crap there is in it beginning with Genesis. Can't they use some logic and see how stupid the two versions of "Creation" in Genesis are and how ridiculous is the fable of Noah's "Flood.
These bible thumpers like Pat Robertson want to take American back to the Dark Ages and rename it the United Christian States of America.

The trouble with Papst Ratslinger is that he believes in "God", is a Theologian and knows nothing about Science. What is Theology? Pure BULLSHIT. He should not stick his nose in something of which he knows nothing. I wonder how well he has read the "Holey Babble" without comments from BS Artists aka. theologians specializing in "babble-speak" and who try to interpret the "Holey Babble".
In post #21 by Veronique it is stated "I actually think that Benedict, if you could crack his head open, may be a more reasonable bloke".

I love British Comedy. I was brought up on the Goon Show and I love Monty Python. The Monty Python Shows proved once and for all how much srap the bible is. The "Life of Brian" is more true that the bible and more enjoyable.

Comment #20808 by eccles on February 6, 2007 at 5:02 pm
I saw this on the Exchristians Forum and last night I saw on local Autralian TV a docomentary about Madalyn Murray O'Hair. Since joining some MSN Chrisian vs Atheist Groups I have been horrified at the attitude of Christians towards Atheists. I note that Atheists make up only 10% of the Amercian Population and only 10% of those Atheists are game to admit to being Atheist. That is a terrible situation and does not happen in Australia. The anti-discrimination laws here are quite specific and Atheists have been successful in legal action against discrimination against them especially in the work place.
I don't think any Australian Christians believe in the literal interpretation of the bible, that "God" made the World in 6 days in 4004BCE. Yet about 50% of Americans believe it.
What is wrong with the USA? Will it get a name change to the United Christian States of America?
34. Neil deGrasse Tyson - Death by Black Hole
Comment #20208 by eccles on February 1, 2007 at 4:10 am
The World and especially the United States of America needs thousands more of Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson. I am an Australia, an Atheist and an amateur Scientist majoring in Cosmology. Even from 10,000 miles away I can see the harm Religion is doing to America. Look at the thousands of man-hours spent by bible thumping preachers brainwashing people into the crap of the bible. Look at the attitude of about half of the American population toward Atheists. If more scientists like Dr. Tyson and the late Carl Sagan could get on TV and tell the people about the true facts of science America would be a better place. I have "Cosmos" on DVD. I have other Astronomy DVDs and I follow NASA closely. I make up DVDs of all the Shuttle Missions to the ISS. I believe NASA is trying to generate more interest in the Space Program in students to try replace theit retiring scientists. I also believe Geo. W. Bush would even ban science if his fundamentalist religious right supporters told him to. NASA funding is a disgrace. NASA spends in one year for the benefit of mankind what the US Military spend in one day to kill people. Where is the morality in that.
Wake up Americans. Give up this bible bullshit and embrace and encourage science.
35. Church of England still valid as state religion?
Comment #19598 by eccles on January 28, 2007 at 7:48 pm
But The Church of England has nothing to do with God or Religion. It is the "Old School Tie" Club. Belief in God is only an optional extra. That is according to Sir Humphrey Appleby of the TV series:"Yes Minister/Prime Minister".
The only good thing the Church of England has going for it is it's fine music and organs. I am an organist, not church organist, and I did have the pleasure of playing some very beautifull organs in Churches in England. Beverely Minister was the best I played.

Ms Anonymous. I offer you my condolences as I know that one never really gets over the loss of a loved-one. My parents died in 1995. I am now 66 and still miss my father. My mother was a bigotted Roman Catholic and died in a state of Dementia. The trauma of living with her in those times killed me. No joke I suffered a heart attack in 1999 and was DOA on arrival at the hospital.
I have a great fondness for airplanes and pilots. I also follow NASA very closely. My three most horrible moments were the loss of the APOLLO I crew on the launch pad, especially Gus Grissom who I admired and still do. Then there was the Challenger and Columbia disasters. I believe strongly in NASA and the Manned Space Program and hate the attitude of Geo.Dubya Bush and Congress towards the funding of NASA.

I hope you approve of my action. I have posted your story on my Group. If you have any objection notify me and I will remove it immediately. However I find that there are many stories like yours and I think they all should be published somehow. I am Australian and, although the majority of the population is Christian, we do not suffer the extreme religious bigotry that occures in what I now call the "United Christian States of America" I have followed all the efforts of Christian Fundamentalists to have "Creation" taught as "Intelligent Design" alongside the true scientific facts of Evolution. I have all the court transcripts of the famous Scopes "Monkey" Trial in TN in 1925. I also have all the details of the Dover Trial.
All the best to you.

The thing that annoys me is the hypocracy of the whole sordid thing. I don't know how many Parliaments in the First World recite the Lord's Prayer, but in Australia it is done. And the members doing so are not all Christian. Some are Jewish and some are Atheist. Then most are lying corrupt bastards with their snouts in the trough, and trotters too, fleecing the poor working people, wasting money on election winning projects. A$50 million for the upgrade of two sporting grounds, one in Sydney and the other in Adelaide while Australia has a major health care crisis and a water supply crisis. We are desperate for new Hospitals. It all makes me puke when I hear those drips say "Our Father, who art in Heaven". What "Father", what "Heaven"?

Comment #18811 by eccles on January 23, 2007 at 4:03 am
I think the idea is preposterous. How many young minds are capable of separating fact from fiction. The whole of religion is based on the false notion that there was/is a "God", a "Creator/God" something that can never be proved.
I have just read that the Television Evangalists have won the right to appeal for funds on TV for their British TV programs, etc. I have been appalled at the way the IDer's have been trying to get the right to peddle their "Creation" in US Schools. Now it seem they are mounting attacks on Britian.
