ScottishGeologist, if it wasn't so sad it would be hilarious.
I love the way these people say they have 1500 pages of truths ... if that is true when do we start seeing animal sacrifice, food laws, biblical forms of dress (tassles are an essential ingredient here folks), how about circumcision in mainstream US evangelical circles - the last one would certainly draw the crowds! Of course polygamy was favoured by almost the whole of the old testament - it even encourages concubines in the case of Solomon.
If all these things were true in the old testament and are referred to far more often than sex (which seems to be the preoccupying topic of most of these weirdos) and greatly more than the odd passing reference to homosexuality then why do they take such a back burner in their theology.
Presumably they would argue that the new testament gives a new approach to these things (cop out IMHO) but if that is the case why do any christians support marriage when Paul clearly states that marriage is a distraction to the work of the gospel and should be avoided unless the christian is lacking self control!!!
Of course if Haggard had any principles he would demand that his congregation stone him following his admission to consorting with gay prostitutes - after all nowhere in the new testament does it revoke the laws they quote on homosexuality!

If I am wrong and there are heaven and hell all I can say is the hell will be a much more pleasant place if the Phelps are in heaven ....
I can just hear them telling Jesus that he "loves fags and deserves to die (again)"
The only positive thing from the program is that they are so convinced the second coming is about to happen that the kids are remaining celebate and not planning to marry - hopefully that will be the end of the poison! (Well you can live in hope)

All I can say is WWWWWWWOWWWWWWWW ... finally (and about time)
I have been pestering the RI and the BBC for years and just kept hitting my head against the brick wall.
These may have been "Children's" Lectures when they were produced but they were made at a time when the RI Xmas Lectures were not dumbed down at all and were often quite challenging to adults. This is one of those series of lectures - RD in full flow and taking no prisoners.
Can't wait to see it again.
For anyone interested the last two year's lectures are available direct from the RI website. I wouldn't recommend the 2005 lectures (the audience was rowdy in the extreme and the presentation to much like 'kids TV' style for my taste) but the recent ones (Dec 2006) were truly excellent if you like mathematics. Marcus de Sautoy gave a masterly set of lectures - squarely aimed at children but nevertheless inspiring.

I did a search on this and found you can get this (and some RD stuff) on DVD at http://atheistnation.co.uk for £2.95 plus postage.
Not sure what format these DVDs take (ie. I presume they aren't professionally produced) but it says you get NTSC or PAL version depending on your country of origin.
I have no relationship with the site.
