I always thought po-faced meant "poker faced", but according to the dictionary, it probably originated from "chamber pot". It seems like poker faced makes more sense, but...

Laurie (if you're still around)
They had a shooting at a local Sikh Temple today and the news reported:
"The crowd heard the gunshots and saw the men with the guns," said Sgt. Tim Curran. "They (crowd) tackled one of the suspects and detained him."
The crowd then turned the man over to police, who suffered injuries when the crowd hit him with field hockey and cricket sticks, Curran said.
I wonder where TWP is?

Adding to my earlier post: I think it's funny that the two major holidays for xians, have two of their main songs, Easter Parade and White Christmas written by a Jew. Does that make Berlin a christian, or a guy trying to make a buck? Similar to those great artists of old that Colbert was referring to.

So when Brown says that Irving Berlin was a nontheist, and Colbert is "shocked" and says he was Jewish, "Are you saying Jews don't believe in god?". Brown replies that she thinks he was a secularist Jew. To which Colbert says, "He wrote 'White Christmas'". So does this mean Jews believe in christ? Funny, but stupid at the same time.

Another interesting thing about Palin Drone, is that she sued the Bush Administration over putting polar bears on the endangered species list. This is stupid in itself, but an obvious move if you want to protect and enhance drilling rights.
Also, since she is the governor of Alaska, she should study one of her state's most majestic animals. The evolution of polar bears from brown bears is fairly well documented in the fossil record. I suppose she wants to teach that it was nice of god to make them white and larger so they can exist in the snow. But why is god now destroying their habitat and the artic bears with it? What a douche he is.

Governor Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative. She's a global warming denier who shares John McCain's commitment to Big Oil and she's dramatically inexperienced. She also doesn't see the difference between teaching creationism and evolution in public schools. She was once runner up in the Miss Alaska beauty contest though. Not much competition up there in Alaska it seems.

Using the general brush of "fraud" for all ministers may not be correct. If a snake oil salesman really believes his elixer will cure people, is it still fraud?
There are two types of ministers. Those that know there is no god and take money from their flock, hence fraud. Those that are delusional, like our snake oil salesman, may not, in the most strict sense, be defrauding anyone. The end results are the same though, people give up money for something that is totally worthless. A practice that we should certainly put a stop to.

Actually in the U.S., churches can legally bar inter-racial marriages in their churches. They would have to give up certain bennies, like tax-free status but they could do it. Bob Jones' University excluded just about everyone who wasn't WASP, for years. It still does, to a lesser degree. In the U.S., we cannot force people to not be racist or homophobic. We can make life more difficult if they are though.

One major difference between the two parties occurs when they start pandering to their bases. GW puts catholic right wingers on the Court, and Obama will put lefties on the bench. They will also sign various legislation, or veto, to make their base happy. It comes down to whether one wants the left pandered to, or the right.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, I didn't mean it that way.
It's funny, when you buy electronics at Costco, they have a concierge service that does a 3 way call to tech support in the U.S. When I had to send my laptop back recently for a new motherboard, the Pakistani guy was giving me the run around. I got the Costco lady to do the calling, I was on the phone for 10 minutes and got my computer sent off, repaired, and back in 4 business days.

If you call on my cell phone, you'll hear a message from my daughter saying that her dad hates cell phones and probably won't return your call. That doesn't mean I can't repair the damn thing.
