He sent a load of pigs off on a marathon run and made them jump off a cliff!

Worse still I think his feet must have been tremendously smelly because of his fetish for having them washed and oiled!

Who would want to follow that??

I think that is a great starting line when confronting any future frother on the site, is to ask very politely if Jesus would be impressed with this behaviour or did He tell them to do this!

Finally, somebody knows what its like to be me! Bravo Quetz!:)

I am with Steve on this one Vulcan, a God is the most complex thing in the entire universe as it introduces a myriad of questions that cannot be answered without some serious guesswork and imagination.

When you consider something as amazing and crazy as the universe there are many things that could explain how it got here, introducing a god then invites questions like which one? How? Why? When? Can we test it? etc etc

I think that last question is a good one, can we test it to verify it? If there is a less complex, less ambiguous method that explains how it is done that does not require the incredibly improbable then it is usually, though not always, the best route to take. Not that I discourage thinking outside the box, if people didn't do that we would not get anywhere in life but I do think its wise to consider all the options first.

Tally Ho!

Quite frankly I don't give a damn what you think or claim, I don't even have to say any more because you seem to be doing a magnificent job of digging yourself into a tremendously large hole.

Deborah Lipstadt, a proper historian, said:

"We need not waste time or effort answering the deniers' contentions. It would be never-ending to respond to arguments posed by those who freely falsify findings, quote out of context and simply dismiss reams of testimony. Unlike true scholars, they have little, if any, respect for data or evidence. Their commitment is to an ideology and their 'findings' are shaped to support it."

I completely agree with her, you have only an ideology which pays no respect to any proper evidence. All you want to do is spread lies in order to feed your over-inflated ego, sad isn't it?

Just like the religious, you have no use for facts and evidence when ideology and distortion seems so much more comfortable. Any attempts to warn you of this and it falls on deaf ears whilst earning the accuser a reprimand that means nothing but somehow sounds authoritative.

Pathetic!

historical revisionism?

You might want to change that to Historical Butchering for what its worth.

I just love the way you can passively ignore everything in front of you and actually claim some form of intelligence, it makes you look like such an uncaring and evil person, keep going there!

I just love the way you ignore historical figures such as Dr. Josef Mengele, or commonly known as the Angel of Death, his experiments on twins and dwarfs are just some of the atrocities this evil bastard is connected with. One of his favourites was to forcibly shove tubes down children's noses and lungs, gas them, place them in hot water vats till the point of almost passing out ONLY because he wanted to collect body hairs, this amongst his other duties of sending people off to the gas chambers as they got off the trains.

Karl Brandt,Sieged Hadloser,Kurt Blome, Rudolf Brandt, Jochim Murgowsky, Helmut Poppendick, Wolfram Sievers, Gerhard Rose, Seigfried Ruff, Hans Wolfgang Romberg, Victor Brack, Herman Becker-Freyeseng, Georg August Weltz, Konrad Schaeffer, Waldemar Hoven, Wilhelm Beiglboeck, Adolf Pokorny, Herta Oberheuser and Fritz Fischer - you can ignore these guys too, they only got tried and convicted of their medical experiment crimes. Not important to you I know, they probably lied in court or the confession was beaten out of them, its not like there was any EVIDENCE against them!

So you just keep deluding yourself, I guess it helps numb the reality of what went on and I wish you all the best in your racist bigotry.

I find your ignorance just utterly amazing, how you can just be so reckless with the truth is beyond words.

I have only studied very small parts of The Holocaust for both my school and university years but I agree with Cartomancer and MPhil as to not only the validity of the evidence that points to this happening but also to your insult to all those this affects. The fact that you casually swipe this to the side tells me you have no interest in this but to cause unwanted insult and trouble.

I have no curiosity to what "the other side" has to say because, quite frankly "the other side" has nothing VALID to say but still insist on wanting to appear magnanimous and intellectual.

I have typed to some disgusting religious people on this site, including one who claimed my best friend's rape was just something she had coming to her. What you have said about the Holocaust never happening is, in my eyes, about the same level of insult, ie you have made an insult that is truly unforgivable and I suggest you give up on it.

I am truly disappointed that you even bothered to come here to cause trouble, its sickening and I am sorry you think its clever.

621. Discussion between Richard Dawkins and Paula Kirby

Comment #157357 by Philip1978 on April 9, 2008 at 1:27 am

Paula,

Now that you are a tv star, do you do autographs? :)

I thought that was one of the best interviews I have seen in a long time. I remember the Marcus Brigstock interview and I kept thinking it was too short for Richard to really delve into his life's passion, Evolution and Science. I mentioned in that thread that there is one thing I could watch a tremendous amount of its scientists being highly enthusiastic about science!

This is the reason I am so pleased with the interview is that Richard was in his element and Paula I think you did a magnificent job in asking the right questions in the professional way that you did. I love hearing about science from people who REALLY know what they are talking about and I love watching them get enthusiastic about it, so BRAVO to the pair of you!

Cheers Tons!

Comment #156972 by Philip1978 on April 8, 2008 at 12:55 pm

Interesting and sometimes highly infuriating debate but on the whole I enjoyed its lively attitude, especially the freedom to offend but not incite hatred debate.

I do have one question from it all, and its for Professor Dawkins.

Do you think Jesus actually existed as a human being? You mentioned that as a scientist Adam could never have existed and I completely concur with that, but I find it odd that you think Jesus did.

From all my studies into the subject I have not yet found any accurate description or historical account that proves Jesus of Nazareth ever existed as a human being, let alone a messiah.

My conclusions so far are that he is a character derived from the traditions of previous Near Eastern Religions that follows a set pattern of events, namely virgin births, death and resurrection etc. Since most religions were created by word of mouth, passed down throughout the ages I think it is no surprise that Jesus's story is not really in any way different from that of Horus the Egyptian god for example.

The connection with the Zodiac, the position of the sun in the sky, the significance of certain dates like the 25th of December or the Bright Star in the East etc are all also highly important when explaining the story of Jesus or even Horus as it is described in the Bible or the book of the Dead. These stories surfaced centuries before Christianity arrived and it is no coincidence that Jesus is described as he is.

I would be very interested to hear what you have to say on this matter, I have done a bit of research on it but I am always welcome to a new approach

kind regards

Eeek sorry! :)

I understand what you mean and I am glad you brought it up!

I like the discussion more than anything!

Ok, lets look at 1 aspect of Creationism:

A 6000 year old Earth

How many times would you have to tell a YEC this is simply not true? You show them, as people like Richard have done, that a whole host of evidence including multiple dating methods, fossils, geology etc You point out that the Earth is not 6000 years old because the people on the planet were playing with glue and domesticating the dogs at that time.

Sam Harris made a great point in a debate he was having about people who have seen Elvis and are under the delusion that he is still alive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szn6cG8fQl8

At what point do you, after hearing people speak about their cherished beliefs before you finally let them in on the fact that not only are they wrong, but they are delusional? At what point aren't they being crazy?

This is education we are talking about here, its highly important not to give any ground on it, it is delusional and I really don't know if its right to use the kid gloves when addressing it.

Philip

629. Richard Dawkins: 'Growth in creationist beliefs a problem for schools'

Comment #156648 by Philip1978 on April 8, 2008 at 5:27 am

All I meant was that you can't go around telling people they are delusional about their most cherished ideas and at the same time express frustration that they don't accept what you have to teach them.

I disagree, Creationism is not even a subject - its wrong, so horribly wrong, you cannot test it, you cannot observe it - you can't do anything useful with it and yet these people seem to think it has authority. They start lobbying for it to be taught in schools for goodness sake and you wonder why Richard speaks out against it? ITS WRONG, INCORRECT, BOLLOCKS, plain and simple, I don't know how else to express it, anyone help me here?

Richard is sitting on the chair of Public Understanding of Science until the end of this year, the public need to understand science in science classes - you can discuss religion elsewhere but its not scientific and never will be.

Comment #156644 by Philip1978 on April 8, 2008 at 5:09 am

Dawkins presentations of his case give an opening to critics to claim that he is blind to any evidence against his position.

yussel123

I have been slowly reading Climbing Mount Improbable and one of the things that strikes me about Richard is his ability to communicate ideas to someone like me who knows very little about evolution. The evidence he provides shows nothing about his being blind to what is going on around him, its very much the opposite of what you say.

I would even go further that he has frequently stated he could change his mind, but with the evidence he has provided himself, as have others in his field of expertise, I find it very difficult to see how evidence of a deity really can outweigh that of common sense and how science works.

What do you think? Could a God possibly work at all?

634. Expelled Overview

Comment #156583 by Philip1978 on April 8, 2008 at 12:42 am

J. McPhearson

I would agree with you up to a point, it is good to be able to see all sides of an argument and know what it is you are up against.

I think the main reason I don't want to see this is that it is full of lies I have already come across many times, I have read interviews with the Stein's of this world and it is obvious exactly where they stand on matters.

According to Stein et all since I do not believe in any God at all I have the same moral standards as that of a Nazi. From all the things I have read about this film there is the repeated use of Nazi propaganda videos - Stein has been quoted saying he would have put more in that video if he could- to confirm this. It seems to be the main point used in the film and is basically there to show a rather tasteless and highly incorrect view that since I have these tendencies this is the reason why I don't want the Creationist's version of how life began and evolved on this planet taught in schools and universities around the world.

The reason why I don't think Creationism or Intelligent Design should be taught in schools or universities, it is not because I am a closet Nazi, it is that there is no proper scientific theory attached to it. Evolution provides the best explanation as to how life progressed to how it is today over many generations, it is a much better, provable, testable and less complex one than adding some Intelligent designer. A designer would need a designer and that has an infinite regress that just isn't worth the study.

I find the Nazi idea particularly insulting and I really don't think I need to go and see the film when I know what is going to happen in it.

Its everybody's choice if they want to go to the movie, go ahead but I think its so full of lies and deception its not worth it. The antics of the producers in banning one of the people who contributed to the film to go and see it reprehensible to say the least.

Anyway, enough of me ranting! I think I need more Tea :)

Cheers

Comment #156365 by Philip1978 on April 7, 2008 at 12:03 pm

How very interesting!

What really gets me is she actually sounded frightened of Sherman, she practically accused him of wanting to harm children ONLY because he had no belief.

It seems that a person could be the Baby Eating Bishop of Bath and Wells, but the fact that he is a religious man, that somehow exonerates him from being the one who is a real danger to kids!

The person who turns around and asks people to stop forcing religion down kids throats and its all "SMITE HIM!"

Methinks double standards and dangerous ones at that, why can't people tell the difference between being a complete bastard who happens to be an atheist and someone who is just an atheist? Is it really that difficult to comprehend that a lack of belief is just that, a lack of belief and that decisions and morality come from COMPLETELY different things!

The challenge that was first given to you was to type out a rebuttal of Paula's wonderful essay, you haven't.

Meanwhile I do continue to pray for you all.

I see, when all else fails, do something spectacularly stupid and meaningless! What the hell is that actually going to accomplish? Is that just so you can imagine that you did all you can to lead us fundamentalist atheists (you said this about all of us, I have many examples, THATS ANOTHER LIE!) away from our sin? God will be pleased with you wont he, good old honest David, the pastor - look at how he prays for those beyond redemption!

I think I will quote Marilyn Manson today, seems as good a day as any, from his song Don't Pray for Me

I don't care what book you quote
Your poison is my antidote
I don't burn
And I don't bleed

Wrap that guilt up deep inside
Religion as an alibi
What more
Could you need?

Don't pray for me
I don't need your sympathy
I don't want your god protecting me
Don't pray for me
I don't want your empathy
I don't need your saviour saving me
Don't pray for me

I have met Lorraine Kelly and I think she is lovely - I was working in John Lewis and her daughter innocently walked up to the counter and said "My Mummy is going to be walking around London in her bra!"

I was in fits!

(Google The Moonwalk, its a marathon length charity walk around London at night time, all the women who take part are wearing their bras on the outside of their T Shirts, some even daring to venture forth into the freezing night without the T Shirt, such scandal I tell you!)

Great lady though, I have a lot of respect for the work she has done for breast cancer, truly wonderful stuff.

Any way, back to topic, I was wondering, David, where the hell are you man?

I would have thought after all we have been saying about your incredibly devious behavior you would be here to defend yourself and explain why, after being told PRECISELY what was going to happen, did you make such a stink? Personally I think your flatulent droning on about how John Lennox should have been there is LAUGHABLE! This is just one event out of the 100s of things Professor Dawkins does all year round and you had the arse about him turning up, having an interview and answering questions!

Now, am I to keep thinking you are just a glory seeking flea who can't hack it because Richard Dawkins is getting all the attention and not you? All these attempts at attempting to discredit his character and integrity are just a reflection of your worries that people might actually listen to what he has to say.

I am with Reverend Shayne on this one, I too am working my hairy, English, arse off living life, taking my joy in the people around me and the time I have left to arse around!

Why would I have to imagine a good life when I can actually live it?

Living alongside a God is bollocks in comparrison to living alongside your fellow humans, especially those who love you.

You can only imagine God's love - though its more Stockholm Syndrome in God's case - my friends, my family, they are real, they make a real difference to my life and I am a VERY lucky man because of it.

There are things worth living for and I live for them, I don't call being God's hostage a worthy one, I call it living a lie - I would rather be honest with myself and those I care about.

If you think I am miserable without a God, think again, I challenge the world to find a happier man than me thats how sodding happy I am! Flippin heck, I have a cup of Tea by my side right now, HOW COOL IS THAT? :)

As for evolution, it happens mate, simple as that - works without God just fine, remove him from the equation and, wow, life continues to leap along!

Foth

There is nothing wrong with the state you live in, there is everything wrong with this evil wench of a senator!

Don't cry, just don't vote for the cow when the time comes!

Diacanu

I think this would have been better, I know its rather mean of me, but I still can't stop laughing, its the fundy atheist in me!

I think there are two from series 3 of Blackadder I might have gone for

Clearthinker, Clearthinker, He trusted in the church.
Clearthinker, Clearthinker. It left him in the lurch.

Lord Robertson, Lord Robertson, intelligent and deep.
Lord Robertson, Lord Robertson, a shame about the sheep.

Bad Bad me, oh well, I can't help it! :)

Cartomancer

You may not have known it, but we were on your side all along, we just wanted to keep McKellen from getting into trouble when we needed him! :)

We at MI1978 KNOW you want to put that bomb harness down.

Put the harness down, have your favourite hot or alcoholic beverage at the ready. If not, the Coke bottle will suffice, we suggest possibly pour the hot beverage down the senator's trousers!

We at MI1978 completely disown all association with this stupid woman and think she is a stuck up bitch!

Message ends....

Picks self off floor laughing!

So let me get this straight, David, you are THAT vain and thick you decided to make a prat of yourself none-the-less?

There is evidence on your site and here to show that Paula told you EVERYTHING about what was going to happen, you KNEW it was all above board! You couldn't let it lie could you?

Here you are in the news wanting to hog the limelight, you absolute idiot! Are you THAT jealous of Professor Dawkins you would go ahead and do this? Bloody hell, I thought you were pathetic, now, you really have outdone yourself, congratulations!!

Some say all media is good media but now you have just made an arse of yourself in front of the BBC, hahhahahha! You twit!

Damn, I think I will have another cup of Tea, this is hilarious!

I think Ballsy Dins bought that one up a while ago! :)

Epeeist

There were only 25 points between them last year, with Lancashire finishing with only one more win than Yorkshire, I think it will be an interesting season this year esp seeing if Sussex can build on their victory!

So it's possible to feel that an extrordinary claim is well corroborated, when in fact it has not been corroborated.

Ah, so that explains my tastes in music! :)

I take it that explains why someone like David or religious fundy getting annoyed when their religion is questioned.

David, sadly, is a dominant personality in his church so therefore I take it you mean he can make his assertions without feeling the slightest twinge of regret and also allows him to express his sheer surprise when he is called a liar?
