651. Lying for Jesus?

Diacanu: Does totalitarian fascist tyranny harm?
Fuck yes.

Even when the geneocidal, murdering, raping (do we know that Mary consented?) despot is all loving?
How can you not see the error of your ways. Repent!

ipashuk: Apparently, the study is flawed in its very basic assumption. Does it factor in the atheists in the "religious" category? Only agnostics would be considered non-religious as theism and atheism, by defintion, are religious views...

I know there was some court decision which ruled atheism a religion, but that doesn't make it so, atheism being a lack of believe in a god or gods.
Interesting question however. Does anyone in the US know if atheists contributing to charity are considered to be religious?

Remnant: I would expect that for atheists often call good evil and evil good.

I try to call a spade a spade, unless it's a shovel. I always confuse them.
Don't you think it would be better for the poor people who are likely to be struggling with money in the US, especially in the current credit crisis?

Flood?

Remnant: for conservatives and the religious people, money and time from us.

for libs and secular, extortions through taxes

Something wrong with money from all society to provide benefit for society I suppose?

Shouldn't you be giving all your money to your church, as in Acts?

Any update on the flood hypothesis?

Remnant: In fact, the working poor in the United States give a larger percentage of their incomes to charity than any other income group, including the middle class and the rich.

So, the people who need it most give it away, especially when they're suffering from religion? Seems a little backwards to me.

Flood?

Careful with that potty mouth SRWB.
I believe I've been banned from a blog for using "damn". At least, the owner said he didn't tolerate cursing, and that was the best I could find. It took me a while because, well, who would consider "damn" to be offensive"?

Remnant, flood?

Geodesic17:
These people weren't involved in a penis panic, were they?

Egads! I'm a victim. Damn socerers. Give me back my penis!
No, wait a minute. Just a little bit cold here, nothing to worry about.

SRWB: saver of souls

Surely to qualify for that title, Remnant would have to actually be, in some small way, you know, convincing?

Remnant, that quoting from the bible is nice and all. Really sets the scene.
Unfortunately it doesn't actually answer any questions.
Now, if you could be a sweetie and perhaps help us out with the flood, that would be grand.

Diacanu, it's not that your posts have "fuck" and "shit" in them. It's about the skillfull manner in which you wield profanity in general. Like an artist at his canvas.

It all comes down to jealousy i'm afraid

Remnant: Re-read what I wrote two or three times. Reading comprehension can be improved with practice.

I must have missed your ground breaking scientific paper reconciling the fossil record, the lack of water, problems with salination for fish, how the animals fit onto a wooden boat, how they were fed, where the water come from (and went to) etc etc (see a previous post by epeeist for a larger list).

You see, I have searched for something which can explain the flood, and everything i've found goes from very very flawed to not even wrong. Given your confidence on this issue, I'm sure you can set me straight.
As you haven't presented any arguments or evidence, simply assertions and a request we go out and find it for ourselves (which I've tried to do), I hope you can help me out here.
Even a short summary of your take on this issue.
Oh, and I've read the bible story, it doesn't mention fossils at all, so that's not going to help me.

Remnant: In addition, I have not observed much evidence of intelligence, reason, logic, or creative thinking here either.

Wasn't there a scientific study that the more ignorant concerning a topic someone was, the more likely they were to over estimate their own capability and the less likely they were to be able to pick people who were?
No slight intended, but it is something to think about.

Still not answer to the flood questions?

Remnant: I have been on many a mission trips and worked in many food lines helping the less fortunate and have yet to run into an atheist group.

So you asked everyone you've ever seen or worked with in these charity missions what their personal beliefs were?

Still no answer to the question about the flood

Comment #168740 by riandouglas on April 25, 2008 at 10:26 am

Remnant: Check the numbers, studies have shown that religious people give far more to charity than secular people. I have been on many a mission trips and worked in many food lines helping the less fortunate and have yet to run into an atheist group.

Didn't you know? We're the ones running around making the mess that you guys clean up. No need to thank us for the feeling of importance it gives you.

Still no answers on that flood question then?

SRWB: Does it matter? Delusion has no gender; neither does being an asshole.

Just being pedantic, plus I have nothing of substance to offer to the conversation.
I'm also just behind Goldy's timezone, so I maye be a little tired

Has anyone actually discerned the sex of remnant?
The talk of children and specifically baking a cake puts me in mind of a woman, given the traditional gender roles as promoted by the bible.

Remnant, male or female?

Competely off topic, but how does anyone actually keep up with a single thread to respond, let alone multiples?
Also, is there a specific number of threads when off topic discussion becomes completely on topic, ala "Fleabytes"?

epeeist: So essentially we are property that he can dispose of whenever he feels like it.

Of course he can, because he's all loving.

Bring back kardy - it was just getting interesting, though it sounded very much like Tiplers Omega Point Theory.

When I was younger, most of my peers were homophobic in varying degree's. I felt an outsider, as I really didn't care about someone else's sexuality - I had enough trouble with my own, thank you very much.

Thanks Philip. I've seen that site before. Now it looks like I'll have to add the book to my pile of reading.
I promised myself I'd not post on this site, as simply reading it takes up a disproportionate amount of my time.
Alas, I'm now doomed. At least I'm in good company :-)

I thought the actual site for Nazareth was not found until at least about 385 AD after it was finally added on to the pilgrim trail.

I have also read that until AD 67 the spot where they claim it was situated it is was being used as a graveyard for a nearby Jewish town called Japha, then the Wromans under Emperor Trajan came along and snotted the Jews living there.

I also thought Nazareth was just Matthew mucking about with the word Nazarite, the cursed group of Jews from the 1st century. He cleverly managed to get Jesus into a prophesy about being all messiahry by instigating he grew up in Nazareth. This is impossible cos he must have grown up with the dead people - I suppose he could have raised them and had friends to play with but that's just plain wrong!

Can you help me out here, I have been studying this a bit and am fascinated by it all

Philip, do you have any references for this studying you've been doing? I've found a small amount in my own meager research, but more is always better :-)

I must also agree that coffee is indeed a heresy, though it does come in handy when sleep deprived. I prefer my stimulant to be cold and cola flavoured, perhaps with an extract from the coka leaf thrown in for good measure.

Robotaholic

You're so right MaxD Theists totally jump to god's "qualities" before they ever establish his initial existence! I hate that!

Yeah, assumption of existence from wishy washy "qualities" and "attributes" which are never defined in such way that could be used to verify or test existence, and endless rationalisations as to why that is the way it is/has to be.
Yet said existence is a certainty, somehow?

ps. Great review Paula :-)
