I wish PBS in the states would pick programming like this up. They've really gone downhill since the republicans took over and appointed their own religious people in top positions. Also, I'm sick of watching how Exxon/Mobile or Texaco is doing such wonderful things for the environment.

Aren't there some religions they don't believe in medical care at all? I don't want to get a doctor who says, "Let's all pray that he gets over his cancer, that's all god allows me to do."
And if someone doesn't agree with premarital sex? Sorry you've got the clap again Mr. Clinton, but I can't morally give you antibiotics, you've been a very naughty boy and god wants you to pay for it, that's why he gave you those yucky germs.

I am sure that Gregg knows all the risks involved, he's a pretty smart guy, unfortunately it is a difficult habit to give up. I think that when he says he chose his suicides well, he means that he knows that he should quit but decided he did not want to deal with the hassle it is to quit. Most smokers I know would like to quit but just can't, for whatever reason.
I was at my Dr.s last month and he had a patient that was having a heart attack. The paramedics were on the way and the guy gets up and walks out. I can see a guy being in denial if he has chest pain at home, but if your Dr. is saying you're having a heart attack, you might want to listen to him.

I think that it has a lot to do with where a muslim originates from. I went to college many years ago with some Indonesian muslims and they seemed mild at best. Some of the women were covered head to toe, some weren't. It didn't seem to matter. Three out of five in a Chem class would come to my place and drink beer and what not. According to them, islam was not as extreme in their country. Maybe it's changed?

It is a stretch to be a flea, but on the cover it does say, "A christian confronts the new atheists". He defines new atheists as Dawkins, Hitchens, Dennett, and Harris. So he is using these authors in a parasitic fashion. Maybe not as blatant as some of the others.

I don't know about Florida or Texas, but in CA the abusive child would either be removed to a single child home, or "placed" elsewhere.
From what I've understood from CPS workers, the problem lies in understaffing, they just have too many caseloads to do an adequate job. Sometimes this results in them "pulling the trigger" too early, or too late. The system is really screwed up, that's for sure.

Comment #221050 by mordacious1 on July 29, 2008 at 9:51 am
Good morning all
CPS is a good idea that needs to be reformed, not abolished. For every kid that gets removed for some dubious reason, there may be one that is removed for good reasons. I had to deal with them once when my son was punching my wife and I had to subdue him until he calmed down. Of course he left that part out when telling his teacher. Anyway, CPS came over, I explained the situation, they said they were suprised that I showed such restraint and left. Had I really been womping on him, they would have taken him "temporarily" for his safety until a magistrate could decide if he could safely stay in the home. Not a bad thing. There are some really nasty parents out there.
Foster care system Really fucked up. There are some good foster parents, who take kids that no one else can deal with. I know a few of these. I also know a few who do it to make a living. The pay is not bad, and these guys could care less about the kids, just the checks they receive from the state.

They do discuss that sinn fein's goals are the unification of Ireland among other things, including: The aspirations of the 1916 Proclamation, that of a democratic socialist republic, an Ireland of equals.
What I don't understand is what you guys are arguing about. Is someone worried that if Ireland is one country, they will become socialist? So?

You're probably right, whatever the reason, it does seem to be popular to be a radical muslim among the islamic youth, which is going to be a problem for perhaps decades in the west. I suppose it's easy for an iman to say, "look what the americans are doing to the land of your ancestors" and get a knee-jerk reaction. I just hope enough of them get an education that gives them a different way to look at the world.

I can see students being radical. Usually this means turning away from what their parents taught them, or against the established norms that society has pushed on them. These guys take it in an opposite direction and become more religious and more hate filled. It would be like finding the Klan well established in universities in the U.S.
