Comment #68198 by robotaholic on September 6, 2007 at 10:30 am
If I were personally quoted and misrepresentated I'd be irritated also. However this kind of thing is very common:
I remember a book "Life - How did it get here? By Evolution or by Creation" by Jehovah's Witnesses and they kept using examples which misrepresented evolution claiming it only depended on chance (jabbing a stick into a stereo and asking Do you think this will make the stereo play better? - of course not - that is what mutation can be likened to) - of course it said nothing about evolution by natural selection... and I used to think most religious people just couldn't understand evolution - but in retrospect - no they were just lying and deliberately misrepresenting evolution. Violating if you will #9. lol - the reading of it is very annoying - I can only imagine if I MYSELF were misquoted and then reading THAT!

I feel like in 100 yrs you and CH, and the whole crowd of you will be known as really great people, great thinkers.

Comment #67001 by robotaholic on September 1, 2007 at 9:39 am
Just like Dawkins has said many times - people who are being polled lie.. and they probably lie on poles about god more than on other poles. I'll bet religious peer pressure has alot to do with the skewed results of poles.
We are more numerous than you think - and it "feels" like the religious surge is over and it's going the other way -but that's my subjective experience

you were right 66346 Auld - they kept her letters, even though it was her dying wish that they be destroyed -that is pretty much proof of what Hitchens says that she was used for publicity- I think that's terrible. Now when you look up famous atheists on google, mabye you'll get mother theresa :))
Comment #66297 by robotaholic on August 29, 2007 at 4:09 pm
Nice read except for one thing....being educated about the catholoc orthodoxy with priests, fathers, popes, orders, etc... makes me icky inside.
Also, about Theresa, I'd just let her and her controversy die down...who cares she was catholic, who cares she lost her faith or w/e, just let the old lady alone...everytime someone famous dies, it's like vulture time from all the talking heads...just let this one alone for goodness sake.
Oh and I declare myself a saint too...will someone in the universal life church confirm me? lol

Sam Harris is cool. I was getting tired of hearing the same thing and he said something new and it was great.
I have this certain respect for old people just because they seem sensitive and hurtable....and Theresa was a totally brainwashed person- so I'd go easy on her. Pitty instead of contempt

Comment #66291 by robotaholic on August 29, 2007 at 3:42 pm
It seems to me that Professor Richard Dawkins dichotomizes the two sides to the argument quite correctly...
1. those who believe in invisible people with superpowers (intolerant believers who try to counteract science)
2. people who don't (good, tolerant atheists)
and yes, you're right, these stupid objections to TGD have soooo been stated and restated to DEATH - If I were RD, I wouldn't read critical reviews anymore, just ignore them - they're always wrong.(usually I wouldn't say that except when its anything verses cold, hard, repeatable and tested science, anything loses.)

How do you assign credibility to someone who thinks a talking snake coerced humankind into the slavery of doing things that an invisible sky being says is wrong? - this guy calls himself a scientist - that's bull*#)%- he may as well be a realian, believe in reptoids or faeries. To think that someone who has a magical worldview can criticize a preeminent British ethologist, evolutionary biologist and popular science writer- is utterly backwards. 841. Debate between Sam Harris and Reza Aslan
Comment #59204 by robotaholic on July 28, 2007 at 8:52 am
This debate pissed me off from the beginning. Who the heck does Reza think he is? He says it doesn't matter if the stories are true or not in the bible- um, how can he say religion is good and the history of it may not be correct? "Sacred history" and "genuine history" - uh one is a fairytale, a lie, a joke, and "genuine history" is the real thing and actually happened.
I don't know how I would debate that confusing, irrational, and shuffled person Reza. You can't talk to someone who is all over the place. I mean if he wants to read the bible and consider it a fairytale and he just likes the stories - well fine, but don't give the book credit for being the word of a supernatural being.
I felt sorry for Sam for being submerged into a useless, skewed, and futile debate where as usual even the moderator wont remain neutral.

I am loving RD's saturation of the media lately and I find myself so science inclined, reading and soaking up every bit of information about philosophy, science, evolution, that I can get my hands on. It's truely the case that before I believed in evolution my world was so small and now that I have learned about evolution, cosmology, and science in general the universe is grander and more exquisit, more nuanced and amazing that it ever was before.
Thank you Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Collin Mcginn, as well as Carl Sagan, Charles Darwin, and other great minds.
