Some rambling Comment #123460 by Kardashovel:

Lest y'all atheists forget, you are not only surrounded but massively outnumbered.
I'm sure you're trying to make some spurious point here, but for the life of me, I can't see it.

Perhaps it's argumentum ad alamo?

Anyway, my Da is bigger than your Da, so there!

Comment #123367 by Tyler Durden on February 7, 2008 at 3:42 am

If this is the kind of drivel that theists are coming out with now because of a few books on the subject of atheism, it smells of panic, sheer panic. They know the game is up, people are getting an education, making up their own minds, *gasp* thinking for themselves - and so, leaving bronze-age myths behind! Go science!

As for their plan "to stop the attrition the church must start teaching a christian view of the world from a young age" - our old friend Einstein had a thought on that:

Definition of Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

So, according to Ravi Zacharias, the reason Sam Harris has not given a speech on Islam in Saudia Arabia is because it would be his "farewell speech" implying that Harris would be killed - and this is supposed to be Sam's fault??

Does he not see the hypocrisy of his statement?

By the way some, of us here find the idea that you have a 'PhD in Biblical Studies' risible.
I've read all the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales, can I have my PhD now? :)

hes2@usa,

Have you studied your bible in its original Greek, Hebrew and Ancient Aramaic texts or in English?

More to the point: do you speak Greek, Hebrew and Ancient Aramaic?

Comment #122930 by Tyler Durden on February 6, 2008 at 9:26 am

hes2@usa,

Not all who pray get their prayers answered.
Why? Who makes up these arbitrary rules? Are they explained in the back of your bible?

Not all are God's (born-again) spiritual children.
And you know this, how?

Do you claim to know the mind of your god? How arrogant of you!

Comment #122890 by Tyler Durden on February 6, 2008 at 8:57 am

Al,

Just look at the evidence from Lourdes. Over 150 years, of at least 1,000,000 people attending per year and praying. Yet only 66 accredited "miracles" - less that 0.0001% success rate - and yes, no accounts of any amputees regrowing a limb, yet this feat happens with the common Salamander.

This god favours Salamanders over humans? Strange.

Comment #122876 by Tyler Durden on February 6, 2008 at 8:45 am

My evidence. . . Answered Prayers!
Anecdotal evidence doesn't count. Empirical, double-blind, testable, if you please!

My evidence. . . Settled Peace in my heart! (About Life and Death!)
Huh? What does this even mean? Can we measure that under a microscope?

My evidence. . . It's foundation and starting point is The BIBLE.
Please! you're only embarrassing yourself now!

By then way, did you mean "it's" or "its" - Anna, get him :)

Comment #122862 by Tyler Durden on February 6, 2008 at 8:28 am

hes2@usa,

Is that the best you've got? Seriously. That's it. Nothing more?

All rhetoric, no evidence. Ignorance over evidence: God must exist because you really, really want him to exist, yes?

Quit the quote-mining, we've seen it all before, tell us in plain English: what is your evidence for existence of your God.

MORE EVIDENCE OF WALT BROWN'S FOUNTAINS OF THE DEEP
Oh boy! Now he's quote-mining/cut 'n' pasting from Walt Brown. Sheesh!

hes2@usa, Walt Brown is a charlatan, his sources are unsubstantiated, his "book" is self-published and he takes the work of actual scientists out of context.

Please don't bring that trash over here!

Comment #122841 by hes2@usa:

One was my growing empathy with the insight of Einstein and other noted scientists that there had to be an Intelligence behind the integrated complexity of the physical Universe.
Where does Einstein say this? What "noted scientists" do you refer to?

I believe that the origin of life and reproduction simply cannot be explained from a biological standpoint despite numerous efforts to do so.
Excuse me? Did you actually state: reproduction simply cannot be explained from a biological standpoint

Have you actually read a high-school biology book of late? Try it.

It was the evidence itself that led me to this conclusion
Which evidence? Please don't quote your bible, circular argument, won't wash here!

No, I didn't in fact need to send water from Lourdes
True, you could've sent her water from your bathtub, would've had the same effect!

While you were expressing care, and I commend you for it, would you have prayed with her had she asked? By confirming her beliefs in such unsubstantiated woo-woo, you're simply enabling her to continue believing in such unsubstantiated woo-woo.

IMHO flowers would've sufficed.

I will freely admit to having read and studied the bible due to my Catholic upbringing (and current interest in debating theists)

Have you ever read anything on evolution?

I appreciate people who think. And interact intellectually...
As do we here... all we're asking is that you think without the pretext of the bible as your crutch.

Perhaps you're correct. Maybe Pangaea existed in the time of the "flood", which is why the kangaroos native to Australia were able to board the ark.

hes2@usa,

Strange how the book of Revelation of St John the Divine "predicts" all these things... and yet we've seen nothing of its "predictions". Nada. Zip. Zero. Not a sausage!

It's always "wait and see". Yawn!

I assume you also think Jebus will "return" in your lifetime? Do you know how many other people thought the same thing - and look how wrong they were!

But, oh no, you'll be proven right. Just "wait and see". How arrogant of you!

Preflood Earth had quite the amount of creatures roaming its surface, among which were well over 2 billion humans.
If perhaps, all of the continents were connected at that time, there would be no worries feeding all of the land creatures.
Perhaps? Perhaps you say?

What rubbish. If you're thinking of Pangaea, try 250 million years ago, before each of the component continents were separated into their current configuration. I assume your "Preflood Earth" is around the 6,000 year mark? Hmmh, quite a bit off there in timescale don't you think.

Have you heard of tectonic plates? Continental drift?

Just watched this pile of garbage! Sick stuff indeed.

These jokers are big on the whole "What if?" premise. They did the same with the "Question of Origins" video with their "What if the big bang didn't happen?" which then leads them to running their mouth and over-active imaginations off without regard.

I guess that's the difference. If we as scientists/rationalists ask "What if?", we don't to presuppose to know the outcome, we investigate the matter, report any outcomes, allow findings to be critiqued or updated.

These clowns use the opportunity to blow mindless, unsubstantiated waffle up your ass - and think they're doing you the favour! Gee, thanks, but I have a brain. And can think for myself. It's no wonder they target children - this is child abuse, plain and simple. Child rapists deal in the mental and physical torture, these fuckwits aim for the mental side, and are just as culpable as child rapists!

I need a shower after watching that crap!

Why the need for language with its obvious limitations and restrictions? Why didn't your God simply implant it into our DNA?

I think you'll find that it's not a limitation on language, simply a limitation on the idea of your God!

Pilot 'breakdown' diverts flight

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7217977.stm

An Air Canada flight made an emergency landing in Ireland after a pilot apparently suffered a mental breakdown. A passenger said the pilot was carried from the plane shouting and swearing, saying he wanted to talk "to God".

Not to mention a complete lack of evidence to back up his spurious claims: "If Sam Harris didn't talk so much about Islam and make so many egregious errors" or "Dawkins, Harris and Hitchens, who are entirely occupied with making groundless assertions when they aren't busy drawing errant conclusions from incorrect data."

Comment by lindseymwright:

The idea behind it is that for those of us who have a relationship with Christ, we should not conceal it.
Oh please, conceal it, I'm begging you. We're all tired listening to your childish, evil, spiteful fairy tales! I have to walk by a huge billboard on my way to college stating: "The Lord Jesus said: I tell you repent or ye shall all likewise perish." Luke 13:5

Seriously, who needs to read that rubbish while going about one's personal business in a modern city in the 21st century? It's bordering on hate-speech. (I can understand the tax man getting away with "Pay your taxes or go to jail" type warnings, but this is pitiful)

I've already torn it down once, needless to say it won't be there for much longer!
