Fanusi,

Your post isn't showing up.

At least on my side, I wonder if anyone else is having problem with the same posts or if it's all random.

I don't think most Muslims are given a "mission" from Islam HQ.

oooo clever. [rolls eyes]. Islam wants world domination. No?

If you don't agree with the radicals, that means you disagree with there interpretations of the religion. So why would you stop calling your self a Muslim because of the behaviour of someone whom you think,--rightly or wrongly,-- don't represent Islam?

[sigh] Because ISLAM IS NOT JUST A RELIGION. If anything it's one little bitty piece of the pie. It's a front if you will. Perhaps if muslims would realise this, it would become a lot more than just "disagreeing with the interpretation of the religion". And what exactly is there to misunderstand? Islam hasn't evolved the way christianity has. There are no "misinterpretations". That's just lunacy.

And like I pointed out before, in any religion it's the "moderates" that are the support system the "fanatics" need. You take away the moderate support and what do you have? A few loonies running around with nobody to support them.

They need the "moderates". Not only just for legs to stand on, but moderates can with proper work and brainwashing be made into a fanatic.

Really that's not a hard concept to understand by any means. When talking about any religion, or cult.

speak out against the radical Muslims above and beyond your fellow citizens do? You are not responsible in anyway for the actions of the extremists so why should you go out of your ways to prove your loyalties?

You don't have to go out of the way. Simply staying in the religion is loyalty enough. Like I've pointed out before, the radicals need regular ol' mild and meek moderates to continue doing what they are doing.

Justify what? Are you saying every Muslim justifies Bin Laden just because he/she is a Muslim?

Well they've obviously helped support it. Willingly or not. (See above points)

edit

Look, it doesn't matter how nice the muslim is, or how mild they all seem, they all know that when rubber meets the road, jihad is a way of life and something that has to be followed. They all hold as a belief in their heads that they are superior and everyone else are infidels. I don't care how nice and sweet they appear to be. It's what they all accept as reality.

Do you honestly think that hardened criminals are going to listen to ranting preachers?

It's happened enough times before.

But beside that even if the answer was no. I think that's the point that fanusi is trying to make. It's not just about religion. (That's just the bait)A hard nosed criminal just might be susceptible to the very real, very violent aspect of Islam. They have a sense of purpose for when they get out of jail, (a problem that a lot of criminals face when leaving jail) and a "group" to belong to, that they feel will support them and help them.

Comment #227594 by thewhitepearl on August 10, 2008 at 11:03 am

Does that simple point of logic escape you?

Not at all. But you obviously didn't notice, or were to busy trying to come up with a somewhat witty respone, to realise that I addressed your question.

Now, I believe it's your turn.

EDIT

It's also a misunderstanding of what Islam is. It isn't a religion the way Christianity or Buddhism is. It's a Total System

[nods] I think that is exactly what everyones problem is. People don't realise it's a total system. I'm just now starting to realise and notice this. No thanks to you or al. Any way, Islam has always seemed a bit extreme or scary as a religion, but in my mind no less scary or possibly extreme than Christianity could be. Then I started realising it was more than that, and when I really stop to think about it, scares the shit out of me. They don't just want to pull someone over to their side of the fence, give them a better way of life, or save their souls. They want complete world domination and will stop at nothing to get it. Converting people into their religion is just the first step.

There is a huge difference.

Comment #227588 by thewhitepearl on August 10, 2008 at 10:50 am

But after a couple of thousand years it has moderated itself

True, but islam has yet to do that. In fact given the rise of new weaponry and technology, it's worse now. In two thousand years (if things keep persisting as they are now) there wont be a world left to moderate anything in.

How do you know what their "underlining feelings" are? Do you know mind reading?

Does underlining cause suit you better? And if you are arguing that they don't feel this way are you a mind reader?

And no I'm not but I based that assumption on what the whole mission of islam is. What they continute to stand for today. If they didn't agree with what the extremists were doing, well we wouldn't have followers in the religion. Even at a "moderate" point. The simple fact that they continue to stay in the religion and not take a major stand against it, shows that they justify it.

856. Novel on prophet's wife pulled for fear of backlash

Comment #227585 by thewhitepearl on August 10, 2008 at 10:41 am

It's difficult to appeal to "moderates" when quite simply, as Atheists, we don't accept a moderate belief in god. Moderates make "all" belief in god acceptable

Good point.

asinine idea of 'moderate Islam'. There's no such thing.

I'm starting to understand and realise this.

Moderate islamists are the support factor that extremists need. Whether or not they like the extent of terror that arrises from the extremist side, they aren't going to take a major stand against them. They are always going to have an underlining feeling of justification for what they do, and turn the other cheek.

I'm having the same problem. It's upsetting because I haven't seen fanusi post this frequently in awhle, I want to see what all the fuss is about.

You guys piqued my curiosity. Unfortunately it's on the mens volleyball. And men playing volleyball professionally should just be a no-no. Much like women playing football. It shouldn't happen. Ever.

Naa going to Spain in September, and I live in Dallas so if I don't have my fill of the latino/spanish culture now, I'll get it in Spain.

Went to mexico earlier this year, if you go down there you have to do it right. I don't really like to hit all of the tourist-y spots.

I dont think me, al, dos xx, tequilla, and mexicans would be a good mix.

I often find myself disappointed that it happened that way. And a little angry that Americans wimped out all of the sports. I don't understand why we couldn't have just continued some of the same customs and traditions.

Any way, I must be the only person that doesn't really care for the olympics. I haven't watched a minute of it.

The female neanderthals {at least compared to the male) looked, and had a lot more modern features, so I'm sure they were easier to mate with, or mistake for, than the males.

It might be. Why don't you stop talking nonsense and just answer it. Unless of course you don't have one.

I guess one question gets answered and that leads you on to making another one.

Damn the learning process. Pshh what idiot thought of that?

Comment #227073 by thewhitepearl on August 9, 2008 at 9:26 am

According to the article it was dubiously pre-arranged. The camera crews would start setting up, rolling and then he would walk in. Trapping them.

The difference that I see in Maher and Stein is, I dont think PZ Myers and the crew would have said no to interviewing with him, if he had been honest.

Believers know how ridiculous they're beliefs are. So naturally, they are afraid of being exposed.

Comment #227067 by thewhitepearl on August 9, 2008 at 9:15 am

Good Morning All,

I think we all know that if Bill Maher and the producers had been honest while making the film, they wouldn't have been able to get the interviews. There is no way in hell people would have said "why yes, ok".

And this has been done in news and film making for years, so it's nothing new. It's called doing anything you can to get your story.

And he is being public about what he had to do to get the story, so at least he isn't trying to deceive the public.

On top of everything it's a comedy, not a documentary or one that is set up to be strictly educational to the public and reveal some sort of ultimate truth.

All though I have a feeling it will manage to do just that.

Alcohol takes away the pain.

As for the rest of that conversation,

1.) I don't go clubbing. Here in Dallas we have bars, ultra lounges, and clubs. I frequent the first two. Clubs are usually dirty, sweaty, and are usually 18 up. I don't find that fun.
2.) Did the raiders end up winning? I don't really make it a point to watch pre-season.
