51. Trouble ahead for science

I'm not sure which bothers me more; the idea that Ken Miller really is a Catholic, or that maybe he just says he's a Catholic so that he can claim to be a god-fearing supporter of Evolutionary Theory to help Our Side(TM).

In the pre-Cambrian era, insects, in particular the dragonfly, would take the compound eye to new heights.

I'm not sure if someone mentioned this or not, but I believe I read that there's no pre-Cambrian "era". It's just the Precambrian, starting about 550 million years ago and reaching all the way back, and encompassing several eras.

It was made by Josh, working with Maureen.

Well done Maureen/Josh!!! Now please send me a check for $2000 so I can go buy a new monitor, as I spit coffee all over mine when I heard Richard's line "As - a - sex - MANIAC - I'm - pretty - hostile - to the - rival - stork - theory!"

54. Richard Dawkins and Bill Maher

Next time, Richard needs to be part of the panel...

I have this fantasy in my head of Richard, Christopher Hitchens, Ted Haggard, and Jerry Falwell all on Bill's panel discussing homosexuality.

Jerry's yelling crazy stuff life, "AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals, it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates Atheists!"

Then Hitchen's sneers at Falwell, "Oh, don't be such a fat lesbian". And Haggard is just sitting there with a slight grin and dreamy look on his face, staring at Richard.

Ok, enough of that... time to go mow the lawn!

55. Did pre-big bang universe leave its mark on the sky?

Comment #159286 by b0ltzm0n on April 11, 2008 at 9:26 pm

Hold on! Let me go get my "jump to conclusions mat".

Personally, I'll stick with the good cosmological evidence we have right now for an expanding/accelerating universe. Besides, I bought a nice plot of land on the moon that I plan on retiring to when I'm 120 (that'll be the retirement age by the time I'm eligible). If I'm informed on my 119th birth day that the universe is about to end in a big crunch and our whole universe is going to be a squashed mosaic in the cosmic microwave background of some OTHER universe, I will be very... put.. out.

Wow, that group sounded a little.... culty.

Hey, maybe we should start our own cult. How about Truebelievers Under Richard Dawkins... ... ... TURD. Nevermind, scratch that.

The chritians don't make you do live under any sort of subjigation do they..yet?

Ever heard of blue laws? Out here in Texas I can't buy alcohol or cars out here on sunday morning from 8AM-12PM. Also, stores that sell alcohol are not allowed to be within 500 yards of a church.

I know it sounds petty, but that's where it starts. Give them an inch into the law of the land and they'll feel entitled to take it all.

Just curious, but why does the hyperlink to this article on the guardian.co.uk site have the word "dinosaurs" at the end?

Nevermind.... just noticed that someone else already noticed. Maybe I'll try reading prior posts next time. =(

Did the Enlightenment not come out of religious times?

Can you please enlighten me as to when we weren't in religious times? =P

Not sure what that means or how it sounds however no offense intended *gulp*

It means, "Your mother has a smooth forehead".

Use the phrase if you want to commit "suicide by klingon".

Leave the Trekkies alone-they are harmless (well mostly-apart from the ones who have learned to speak Klingon-they're are the real nutters)

"I ask representatives of all the monotheistic religions to meet with their brothers in faith," Abdullah told delegates to a seminar on "Dialogue Among Civilizations between Japan and the Islamic World," according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Funny, isn't Japan's primary religion a polytheism called Shinto?

66. Debate between Richard Dawkins and Madeline Bunting

Comment #127073 by b0ltzm0n on February 14, 2008 at 10:45 pm

Richard Dawkins says, "...I care passionately about the true nature of the universe, and so I care about the fundamental question as to whether there is an intelligence or not. It's not a spiritual; it's not a symbolic issue. It's a factual issue. And the evolution one, I could swallow my..."

I'm DYING to know what Richard's next sentence was going to be! Was he about to give an olive branch to fundamentalists? Anyone have any idea?

67. Interview with Richard Dawkins

Comment #94723 by b0ltzm0n on December 6, 2007 at 10:43 am

Interviewer: "The things that aren't useful and aren't necessary to survival, over time become extinct. Religion seems to be the most enduring of all human attributes..."

I wish Richard would have jumped all over that statement. I mean, humans as a species have been here for at least 100-200K years. How long has religion been with us? 8,000 years or so? Hopefully it's one of those "attributes" we can soon send to the evolutionary trash bin.

Sweet! Just donated some dough! I still have a long way to go to make up for all the money I've tithed to the church! =)
