51. Palin: average isn't good enough

Comment #260456 by Diacanu on October 5, 2008 at 2:30 pm

Steve-

They we have Palin, who clearly isn't up to the job.

Best case scenario, she'd be clueless and helpless like our last two retarded presidents, Reagan and Bush II, and she'd be a puppet.

But who would be pulling the strings?

I didn't vote for them.
No one did.

Fuck that shit.

What has your post got to do with Palin's competence?

You're not gonna get that out of him.

You're as likely to hear "...oh, okay, I'm totally full of shit. I just wanted to keep my fake job, and I was scared. Forgive-zies?", from David Robertson.

I did watch the debate and loved her performance against Biden.

Then you're completely lost to your dopey ideology, and there's no talking to you.

I wasn't too impressed with Biden on a lot of issues, but Palin was just a coached slogan and buzzword spewing machine.
It's was a fuckin' disgrace.

You don't have to like Obama at all to see that.
Go ahead, hate his fuckin' guts, it won't make Palin any less useless.

The fuckin' right-wing partisan blinkers on people are Coke-bottle thick when it comes to this cow.

Wake the fuck up.
Republicans aren't fuckin' conservatives.
That party threw you overboard 20 years ago.
They don't give a fuck about you.
If you honestly identify with anyone who ran in the last 16 years, there's something seriously and deeply fucking wrong with you.

Sorry but I can not stand Obama. When I look at him, I don't see someone who really cares about this country, I see someone who will do whatever he has to get power.

You only see that in Obama?

This is what his past shows. I will be the first to admit that Mccain has his flaws but there is no doubt in my mind that he really cares about this country.

People I dislike usually remind me of that fact with each renewed exposure of themselves.

Listkeeping is unnecessary.

Lists are only needed if you plan on putting little red Xes through the names sometime down the line.

It's a shady behavior in and of itself.

As with business, who would you rather listen to about business: Donald Trump or someone who went to school for business and never ran one?

Neither.

You're right that the student never ran a business, but Donald Trump can piss up a rope just for being Donald Trump.

Plenty of other visible businessmen out there who succeeded without being weasel-eyed scumfucks I'd rather talk to.

Unless you ever ran a business and made it successful, I don't care what you say about what people should do in business.

By that reasoning, I'm not allowed to have an opinion about the corruption in Enron, or the corruption and malfeasance in the whole housing debacle, or the wickedness that cigarette companies even exist.

Tch, fuck that.

mitchell/Steve-

Well, I guess the separation comes down to how it's done.
As long as it's not done in a bullying way, I don't see the problem.

Mitchell, gotta disagree with the "destruction of something important to someone", thing as far as the crackers go.
The crackers are the limit on that.
they're fucking crackers.
They come from a factory, they get eaten and shat out.

Breaking someone's prized ornate crucifix, or Buddha statue I could see.

But, it IS just a goddamned cracker.

Steve-

Ah, man, Steve, here we go again with our main point of contention..

*Fires up lightsaber, and starts swinging*

That isn't the point. This also isn't about being militant or polite. It is about effective ways to change belief.

Shouting "your belief is wrong" no matter how loudly and militantly, isn't going to change belief. All disputes, short of all-out war, are settled by people sitting down and talking things out rationally, so that ideas can be changed. This isn't a matter of being nice, it is just inevitable.

So, if we are offended by people believing that a cracker has a mystical aspect (and no amount of descration, or scientific tests are likely to change anyone's mind about that), we have to think of how we change that belief through argument.

At the same time, being silent on the matter plays into the special undeserved respect religion and religious ideas get in society.

So, these things do have to be ridiculed to knock down that special unearned respect.

Playing touchy-feely gives them what they want.

I think you can do that by teaching people what the idea of miracles and the supernatural actually means, and why it really is nonsense. A good understanding of these terms is very rare. I believe that religion thrives mainly due to ignorance. So, what we need to encourage is education on ideas of rationality and critical thinking.

And we've seen religion won't even compromise with that.
When they see critical thinking is a threat, and they have, and will, they'll try to destroy the very notion of logic in their flock's minds.
They're that fucking scared, and that fucking crazy.

That isn't militant, but neither is it mild or polite. We insist that our society requires our children taught how to reason and think for themselves, even if it leads to them losing religious belief.

And that's when they'll really kick and fight.
They've fired their warning shots with their slimy little articles and flea books.

I happen to think that would be vastly more effective in removing people's beliefs in transubstantiation than yelling "it's just a cracker" at them. Doing this may be a useful morale-building protest against the absurdities of religion for some, but it won't change much.

Well, you can be good cop, I'll be The Punisher.
