51. How to reconcile Richard Dawkins?

Comment #174359 by Jiten on May 2, 2008 at 9:37 am

al-rawandi:

The worst of the worst of these "just missed the 60's" crowd come here and post their communist drivel, constantly referring to some metaphysical, eutopian reality, where sunshine and raimbows shine down on the overall clad proletariat.
This is just pointless point scoring.I'm not going to go on and on here trying to persuade you that you've got it all wrong.Even your charaterisation of those who want dignity and justice for all humans is a parody. What is worse is that it is a parody based on ignorance.Nothing seems to be going in.None are so blind as those who can't see what is right in front of them.

As for keith, don't be surprised to learn that he may be more sympathetic to the left that you think, although I'll let him speak for himself-something he's supremely good at.

al-rawandi:

I don't understand it. These Chomskian ideologues are incapable of doing anything but flogging their own collective backs. They can't bring themselves to even admit that Islam is a violent ideology, they can only blame the WTO and World Bank for 9/11 (despite the fact Bin Laden doesn't really talk about these two).
Name calling doesn't win arguments.Evidence does.Islam is a violent ideology but not every muslim is violent as you yourself know some muslims who have never beaten their wives.People cherry pick their holy books.500 years ago you could've said Christianity was a violent ideology, what with the witch burnings and the Inquisition and the Crusades. But look at it now.
Islam is not the cause of terrorism but a contributory factor.Look at the US.It is not Islamic yet is a major terrorist state. What is the cause of this terrorism?A question rarely asked.Only answers to the other guy's terrorism are sought.

A lot of posts while I've been away! Just got back from a cello and piano recital.

Well,al-rawandi,you attack the cartoon version of socialism. You seem to be obsessed with state-ownership.Why? Why do you think the opposite to capitalism is state-ownership? Firstly think no states at all.The state is an artificial creation and we'll just do away with it.Freedom for people to move around,no borders. After all today Capital freely moves around the world but borders exist only for people.

Secondly, think of a society based on co-operation not competition.

As for motivation or lack of,what about 10,000 years ago for example? Humans are curious animals and they will be and are motivated by curiosity."Let's see what happens if I do this.."

What we're talking about is a complete revolution in how society is arranged not a modification or tinkering with the current world system.Chavez,Castro are just tinkerers. They do not represent a just society.

al-rawandi in post 184:

I have read Chomsky
And yet you remain unconvinced, despite the wealth of evidence he has gathered to back up his assertions? This is like a theist reading TGD and come away unconvinced despite the watertight arguments in it.As Dawkins has remarked all theists are atheists when it comes to other gods and some of us have just gone one god further.Well it seems to me that some here need to go one DELUSION further. The Capitalist delusion. This is no way to organise a fair, just society.

I think al-rawandi needs to read Chomsky. He simply doesn't get the excellent posts by Bonzai and D'arcy.

56. Lying for Jesus?

Comment #172432 by Jiten on April 29, 2008 at 2:51 pm

I have something in common with Einstein: I need help with maths too.

57. Lying for Jesus?

Comment #172423 by Jiten on April 29, 2008 at 2:43 pm

Einstein had major insights into physics, but had to get help with the math
What are you doing using the word 'math"? You're not American.

58. How to reconcile Richard Dawkins?

Comment #172399 by Jiten on April 29, 2008 at 2:19 pm

People often confuse what went on in the old Soviet bloc with what Marx wrote. So they reject Marx because they reject "communism".There are many myths associated with socialism. For example "command economy".Well what do you call the economy when nations go to war?The war economy? Is that not a command economy?

Dawkins would do well if he paid more attention to Chomsky. Then he wouldn't appear so nice in person and could be the same as he is in print;there wouldn't be two Dawkinses then.

Comment #172317 by Jiten on April 29, 2008 at 1:17 pm

No one ever mentions the elephant in the room.Imagine no religion?Yes,OK,good. But:
Imagine no injustice
Imagine no wage slavery
Imagine no exploitation
Imagine no hunger in a world of plenty
Imagine, there's so much inequality in access to clean water, medicine.
Imagine no CAPITALISM.

61. Gods and earthlings

Comment #163413 by Jiten on April 18, 2008 at 10:16 am

When will the IDiots get it through their thick heads?RD can write articles like this till the cows come home and they still will carry on as before.I guess they're not interested in the truth, only in keeping the truth from the ignorant masses.

Their power will only wane when we educate and make science-literate the masses.

62. Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss

Comment #161713 by Jiten on April 15, 2008 at 2:20 pm

Bonzai You hero worship Feynman yet you constantly, tiresomly rebuke us for being Dawkins fans. You are obviously a very intelligent guy yet don't you see the hipocracy in this?Looks like what's good for the goose is good for the gander too.

63. Richard Dawkins' secular army must be stopped. God is behind some of our greatest art

Comment #160355 by Jiten on April 14, 2008 at 1:40 am

I agree strongly with what Skid said. This article is a third rate piece of crap.Just like many before it from the Guardian. What's with the Guardian? Are they deliberately out to stir things up?How can such a piss poor article get past the Editor?

65. The simple falsehood at the heart of Expelled

Comment #158457 by Jiten on April 10, 2008 at 2:44 pm

Diacanu Eugenics after all is just Artificial Selection applied to humans. We have been artificially selecting farm animals, pets and crops since we stopped being hunter-gatherers.So where is the "law of unintended consequences"here? The only thing different is the we can speed up artificial selection through gene manipulation.

66. The simple falsehood at the heart of Expelled

Comment #158427 by Jiten on April 10, 2008 at 1:41 pm

harrylippy writes:

we don't engage in eugenics because it is morally wrong to do so.
I don't think so.Morality is to do with harm done to others.Who would be harmed if we for example bred for higher intelligence in a baby by genetic manipulation(if we had the technology)? No,we don't engage in eugenics because we don't have the technology yet.Just wait till we do.
As Dawkins himself has asked somewhere, what is the difference between practicing 8 hours a day to be a good concert pianist and genetically modifying for musical ability?(Dawkins might have used another example, and put it better than me!)

67. Richard Dawkins: 'Growth in creationist beliefs a problem for schools'

Comment #157127 by Jiten on April 8, 2008 at 3:10 pm

Yes Bonzai science and technology are not the same thing but modern technology wouldn't be possible without a deep understanding of how the world works brought by science.

68. Discussion between Richard Dawkins and Paula Kirby

Comment #157114 by Jiten on April 8, 2008 at 3:00 pm

Just watched the Intro so far and a lavish intro for Richard but none for Paula.I still don't know WHO she is.(I of course know her from her contributions here.)Maybe it has been mentioned already in some other thread of which I'm unaware.

69. Richard Dawkins on The Big Questions

Comment #156964 by Jiten on April 8, 2008 at 12:46 pm

Richard hardly got a word in.Why invite a distinguished guest and then waste him by not using him more?Even that empty-head Miriam spoke more!

"Of course the devil exists, how can you explain Hitler and the Holocaust"... that's the kind of "reasoning" I would expect from and accept in a 3-year-old child!

Actually 3-year-olds cannot reason.3-years-olds are lovely, lively, full of curiosity little humans and there is no reason to denigrate them just to point out the stupidity of adult humans.Just say it straight. Some adult humans are just incredibly stupid.

70. Dawkins warns of human extinction

What a brilliantly excoriating piece from RD.The biggest irony is the fact that these people behave in such an UNCHRISTIAN manner! Where are their morals? Ha ha ha!!

75. Discussion on PZ Myers being expelled from Expelled

Comment #148243 by Jiten on March 22, 2008 at 12:52 pm

Why o why do these cretins feel the need to attack Darwinian Natural Selection? After all scientists like Francis Collins manage to blithely carry on believing in Jesus whilst accepting the overwhelming evidence for Natural Selection.Francis Collins and other Christian scientists must be seriously embarrassed by having these half-brained cretinous IDiots on the same side as themselves.

79. EXPELLED!

Comment #147642 by Jiten on March 21, 2008 at 3:43 am

Ha ha ha!! What dorks those IDiots are! It's like airport security stopping a pen-knife getting through but allowing an AK47 to go right past!!

In no way do I want this to mean disrespect for PZ Myers,a true champion for science.

Comment #130410 by Jiten on February 20, 2008 at 1:10 pm

Craig Venter seems says at one point that because our genome (and presumably that of other species too) has so much viral and bacterial DNA that it makes no sense to talk of "species" and that comparison of genomes to determine relatedness is also meaningless. Is this true or have I got it wrong?
