Childhood comes with it's own built in fears, these "Daemon" fears add unneeded bullshit to growing up.
I agree with your son; some basements are freakin scary! They're like dungeons, cold, damp, the pipes make weird sounds; imaginations can run wild!
I do not yet have children, but when I do, I know they'll have their own fears, not from this type of fear mongering, as much as I can help it.

When I was a religious adolescent, Daemons and possession scared me. The thought of an evil spirit that talks in Latin that can take over your body... I was frightened by it. How is this useful in the modern world, how is this good for a child. I'm embarrassed to even admit this now. What's even scarier than those young fears of mine is that some adults still believe in this craziness. We (more importantly, the mainstream) need to be very critical of these people and although they should be allowed freedom of speech, they should be immediately discredited in terms of believability. Fear mongering punks, trying to pin "evil" on a supernatural entity... What a bunch of irresponsible bullshit.
Hey Assholes, make up your mind, was it Darwin who inspired the Nazis or Daemons... get your lies straight.

59. Dumb and Dumber: A discussion between Ben Stein and Glenn Beck
Comment #175612 by Star Spangled Eagle on May 5, 2008 at 5:32 pm
The unbiased beforehand:
Wow! It's the perfect time to explain your movie Mr Stein! Mr Beck has a chance to ask some really interesting question, what could this wonderful movie be about?!
Reactionary afterword:
I Loved it! How much time do you spend on discussing why your movie is worth seeing Mr. Stein?
None at all.
Or why you think ID is credible? Because of religion? Bah!
There is nothing to say about your movie Mr. Stein, you fail. It trash, it's a lying piece of propaganda, but it did make a decent amount of money, in terms of documentaries so… congratulations!
Formula: Appeal to massive amount of people who don't know any better, take the side with their silly mythological stories in a "smart way"
Goal: $$$$
Hey, you really do know your economics.
Mr. Beck seems to have the intelligence of a broken twig, constantly saying how we all must see this movie (But why Beck? Why?), he even mentions parents taking their kids to see it before they go to college.
What the F*** is that all about?
If anything at all, you feel sorry for Stein in this interview with all the portable back-scratching fiascos, weird Maalox chugging and Nixon butt licking.
Mmmm, nothing like mentioning the presidential dingleberries of a paranoid bigot in an interview.
But seriously, you can't take this seriously at all, mostly because of Mr. Beck. Stein actually is pleasant compared to this turd. How the hell did he get a show?
I got an idea for a show, Headline "News"
I'll keep you updated on my daily bowel movements, how 'bout it?
It certainly would be more stimulating than this..
Definitely more educational.

Your conversation, when compared to the majority of this thread is amazing. We see various theological arguments shitting from the mouths of ID supporters who all post in the same way, not answering the real questions, quoting mystical passages, completely delusional in their responses (all you atheists don't know what you're talking about, LISTEN TO ME, I KNOW THE ANSWERS)
Then, two people, only concerned with science and "truth" search for answers, disagreeing along the way, but still, not resorting to the idiocy and cheap tricks displayed elsewhere on this thread. Bravo to you both! Your exchange only solidifies how pathetic the other "arguments" are.

It's simple, you godless fool, God changed the trees to trick us. Of course they'll look around 10,000 years old but that's because God REALLY wants us be faithful in him without evidence to back it up. He REALLY wants you to try. Just because you can easily worship a God doesn't mean that people who don't believe in your God must replace that with a different worship. I can only speak for myself, but I only have great respect and admiration toward Richard Dawkins and that's it. Irate-
At one time, I was incredibly hostile and angry at religious people, (this was the period right after I started considering myself an atheist) from that point, I've grown to understand that one can't hate people, one must hate the dogma, the religion. Every single day I come in contact with this nonsense, if on every occasion I freaked out, I would probably be insane.
I'm not sure if claims of "angrier than thou" are really helpful (that wasn't my point anyway). To insure galactic stability however, I will concede that you are a much angrier atheist than I.
EDIT: Although, on second thought, I very much dislike many of the ID troll posters of the past few weeks... perhaps you could even say I'm "irate" ;)

The Pope left my city last night after great hoopla and ceramony. Every local channel had coverage of just about every minute; if that wasn't annoying enough, the release of this second rate, has-been hosted, propagandazing, nonscienctific piece of trash in my country.
I'm trying to be optimistic, I swear. I am...
I sit here, at work, with fellow employees, cubicles peppered with religious icons and pictures the late pope. In February, I mentioned Darwin's birthday and got the standard, ignorant, "if we evolved from apes, why are apes still around?"
I'm trying to be optimistic, I swear. I am...
Considering the environment we live in, atheists have to be very patient and tolerant people; but that can only go so far. Nothing will make the movement more powerful, more angry, more vocal and active than an attempt to veil Darwin and non believers as villainous.
Expelled is the motivation that was needed, thank you Mr. Stein, for awakening a sleeping dragon.
