I can tell you from my front row seat that there is more to it than that. The drug trade itself, in my neighborhood, is just another biproduct of the failings of the community.
The legalisation point may have some merit, but there is work to do yet in other areas.

Hell, a couple shots and a few beers and I'll do it myself. I am not the stereotypical left, and there are a lot more of me than you cats could believe.

In fact, it's a devil on a cross. I would say that it could be seen as a religious symbol in a way, but wearing religious symbols is not a problem. I would say that there is a good chance that several of the other students in the class were wearing crosses or stars of david.
It is not permitted for the school officials to show favor to any religion, let alone force a certain religion on a student.

Evangelicals already travel in packs like good predators. They are already united behind the idea of forcing religion on children.

I get your point, but the article is only about praying if you stop reading after the headline.
The article clearly states everything else we are talking about.
It is true that the prayer would be a soft spot for most of us here, but the "forced" prayer makes that a pretty serious problem. The "forced" prayer to "Jesus" takes it to an even deeper level.
There is an awful lot of bad in this single event, and I'm not sure how many of these insults would not have to have happened to drop the penalty to the level you feel is apropriate.
You are certainly free to disagree with me, and perhaps her superiors will too, but I think this was a terrible event for the student and the school. I would not want a woman like this "teaching" my children.

After reading the article and questionnaire, I get the distinct impression that they are both designed to push an agenda.
I believe the questions were designed to get exactly this sort of result so that they could be used to develop this sort of propaganda.
Don't get worked up about it without checking out the source. It becomes pretty obvious as you scroll through the questions.
Many athiests attend church for special events or community activities (our community council always meets in a church).
If you Eat dinner with someone who says grace, that counts as praying in this questionaire.
If you have researched a subject, it means you have a belief in the validity of it? I spent days online looking for a good copy of a classic bigfoot picture because I thought ,with the recent claims, it would be funny to hang that photo in my business as "Employee of the month."
Does that mean I believe in bigfoot? Of course not.

When the fake list of banned books was circulating the story was all over the news. The problem was that they were so busy debunking the list that they just glossed over the whole banning discussion leaving the impression that it was also bunk.
If we start throwing things like this around, we may end up with the same outcome.

I know what you're saying.
If we can't accept people espousing Obama's guilt by association, we shouldn't seem to be trying so hard to do the same to Palin.
However, you are off the mark on the book banning issue. A bit more information has come out on that subject and it appears to have been something she attempted on a few occasions. From her start as a city counsilwoman.
She is also said to have attempted a school board takeover ala Dover in order to push a creationist agenda.
I am looking for more information on that right now.
