'are children of same-sex adoptive parents worse off than children in normal families?'
PS I'm not quoting you because I disagree with what you have written, but because I'd like to point out that we shouldn't allow something because it, on the surface, seems all nice and tolerant, when there can be a flip side to the coin...
- 'free' (i.e. on the taxpayers) insemination of not just childless heterosexual couples but also lesbians
- 'free' insemination of heterosexual/homosexual women WITHOUT a partner
- 'state-funded alimony', i.e. money to single parents, including those who have been inseminated
To me this is just sick...t

"I find the idea of trying to actively suppress people's personal beliefs in their personal lives a real problem."
I also agree with you here. But where I live, in Florida USA, the religious actively legislate their personal beliefs. By cutting funding to planned parenthood, passing resolutions and legislation against same sex relationships, and try to pass "teach the controversy" legislation.
Take a moment here:

Add a decidedly "pick and choose science" president...
EDIT: Sorry Steve. Didn't mean to rant. It just pisses me off when people pass laws that mess with science and peoples well being and happiness.

I agree with the first part, however religions deleterious effects go beyond fairness. As a example religion can have a negative effect on medicine/health.

Poor Helene - you clearly are getting desperate - unable to answer my comments or questions you resort to accusing me of being responsibel for a few extremist Nigerian nutcases.I am sorry that your case is so weak, and that you are so insecure in it, that all you can do is insult. Perhaps when you take a moment to reflect you might consider that it does not look too rational or reasonable to defend rationality and reason in such a manner?

The ground work for anti-semitisim was created by the persecution of the Jews over millennia by the church.

Religion, the scab left over from the neurosis of "not knowing".
As once more I read Robertson extolling us to be polite and open minded, beneath the veneer of civilization that he presents us with, beats the throbbing heart of a true sadomasochist. He wants to be insulted for his god. How's the martyrdom coming along along there "father"? Perhaps you could find someone to flog you in public. Wouldn't that be delish?
So take a moment and consider the little children being branded witches in the name of your poison:

When I was four I received an LP called "The Silly Record" by a fellow named Stu Hample. Silly songs, silly rhymes, silly stories. And... the search for "Silly Nothings". When the orchestra played a certain riff, the listener was urged to look for "silly nothings". "You missed it? It was by the window. It was purple with green poka-tails!" Needless to say I never saw a silly nothing.
Fifty one years later certain people still would have me looking for "Silly Nothings". Without the cool musical riff I might add.
Pa, pa, baaaaaaaa!!!!!! Wait there it is in the clouds! It's and old man with pink polka-dots! You missed him? Awwww...

I developed an extreme allergy to alcohol in my thirties. Very unpleasant. As for the drugs. I lived in Berkley California in the early seventies. It was hard to find someone who wasn't stoned.
As for "E"... it has the potential to be harmful. I would approach with caution. I've seen it really damage people I know. I can't vouch for "purity" etc... But I think it's a very bad idea. Also consider whos' hands the illegal gains might end up in.
