52. The 'Is God...Great?' Debate
Comment #48115 by MIND_REBEL on June 6, 2007 at 5:00 pm
Hitchens is brilliant. It's great to see a journalist embracing science and logic instead of just repeating the same old lies over and over. Most people that smart go into science, but he decided to persue writting as a way to change the world for the better. In fifty years, everybody will agree his theories on Iraq were correct the same way Darwin's theories were confirmed generations after his death.

Faith is the great cop-out. Her mentioning it is destroying whatever credibility she had as being a rational, educated, progressive person.

55. Richard Dawkins and Alister McGrath
Comment #47495 by MIND_REBEL on June 4, 2007 at 5:41 pm
What's ununderstandable, is that McGrath claims to have a science degree and yet he still believes in a Christian god. One or the other, brother.
Comment #47491 by MIND_REBEL on June 4, 2007 at 5:22 pm
Religion is a form of child abuse. Childhood indoctrinazation of religion is the worship of irrationality, and plants the seeds that allow more extreme forms of irrationality to be acceptable later in life. The bottom line, raise a child in a rational manner, you'll get a rational person, abandon science and logic in childrearing, and you'll get another religious nutso/racist/bigot.
57. My Road to Atheism, What Took Me So Long and The Aftermath
Comment #47473 by MIND_REBEL on June 4, 2007 at 4:07 pm
Welcome aboard. I converted after hearing the good word of reason from the Rational Response squad. I watched the God that Wasn't there, and realized that god was fake, religion was irational and immoral, and Science was the only way to understand the world.
It's been a long journey, and it's a great feeling to know i'm now part of something bigger that will remake the world into a better place.
58. The Myth of Secular Moral Chaos
Comment #47470 by MIND_REBEL on June 4, 2007 at 3:58 pm
IMO, Religion in all forms is immoral, and by extention, so are it's adherants because it's been used to justify so many horrible things over the course of history. Humans have an innate moral code which can only be altered by memetic brainwashing in the form of religion.
And Sam is 100% correct. Secular countries like Sweden and Finland where 80% of the population are hardcore atheists have the highest standard of living while places like Kenya and South Africa which are 80% Catholic are having huge problems because the Vatican is running thier country. If they could make a switch to a Science based worldview they could quickly transform thier country to someplace like Sweden.
Comment #47236 by MIND_REBEL on June 3, 2007 at 4:47 pm
Believing in UFOs is just as irrational as believing in god. I think it's a waste of time, and a misuse of science.
60. Should Science Speak to Faith? A dialog between Lawrence Krauss and Richard Dawkins
Comment #47222 by MIND_REBEL on June 3, 2007 at 3:13 pm
Religion is basically just science-for-idiots. Why does it rain? Because god says so.
Science will destroy religion within the next 15 years.

Comment #46259 by MIND_REBEL on May 30, 2007 at 5:20 pm
It persists because the Church still has a stranglehold on all aspects of culture. Things aren't that much different than during the middle ages, except the power structure is just more hidden. Religion still rules this sick world.

65. Why Do Some People Resist Science?
Comment #46210 by MIND_REBEL on May 30, 2007 at 3:14 pm
Religion wants to destroy Science and hold back progress, so that people will be unhappy and turn to religion for comfort. If religion hadn't been holding back science for the last 300 years, as a society, we'd be so advanced that many of the problems we face would have already been solved.
Comment #45924 by MIND_REBEL on May 29, 2007 at 4:10 pm
Hedges's argments were vaccuous and HE'S NOT A SCIENTIST. God is a failed hypothesis, and the most qualified people to comment on god's existence would, by defintion, be a scientist.
67. Debate between Richard Dawkins and Robert Winston
Comment #45755 by MIND_REBEL on May 29, 2007 at 6:03 am
Lord Winston is advocating just turning off your brain and listening to what everyone tells you. It's sad that the meme of religion is so strong it can override years of science education.
68. Debate between Richard Dawkins and Robert Winston

Winston would get destroyed by Dawkins in a real debate.
It's hard to believe that some so called "scientists" still believe in a space merlin that created the world. Stupid and dangerous delusions from a confused old man.
Comment #44945 by MIND_REBEL on May 25, 2007 at 4:09 pm
First, i'm not as articulate as you guys. Second, i haven't had access to a rich science education like you guys. You guys need to understand that not everyone is super smart, and that everyday folk, like myself, can play an active role in the movement towards postive social change.
Whats important is that i don't believe in god. If it wasn't for Dawkins and groups like the Rational Response squad i would still be a theist. I might not be a genius thats great with words but i'm smart enough to know that athiesm, science, and evolution are really true and that religion is a lie. And yes, i'm am angry, my freethinking has caused me a great deal of strife with my family and friends and i do have a grudge against people of faith.
Comment #44927 by MIND_REBEL on May 25, 2007 at 3:38 pm
No, i think, perhaps, you're misinformed. Theistic evolution is just as insane as creationism. The idea that a god guided evolution is just wrong and unscientific. Tell me, where did this god come from? They can't answer that so they're twisting evolution to fit thier religious beliefs.
Comment #44924 by MIND_REBEL on May 25, 2007 at 3:28 pm
Al Gore is indeed a creationist. He believes in god, and it's impossible to believe in god and evolution. That only leaves creationism or Lamarkism.

Ruse is a sellout. I don't trust anyone that declines to call themselves an athiest. It doesn't make sense. Why not? I bet he was raised religious and is still suffering the indoctrinazation after effects. Either way, he's done some harm to the movement and has taken his name off the list of people that want to help the world.

Comment #44599 by MIND_REBEL on May 25, 2007 at 5:21 am
Irrationality begins in childhood. Thats a fact. We need to rethink how we raise our children. Stories about Jesus are bad, we already know that, but i feel it's clear that other fairy tales like the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause lay the irrational foundation for harmful behavior later in life. Children should learn math and logic at a young age to prevent anti-science behavior and attitudes from harming society.

85. Scientists Draw Link Between Morality And Brain's Wiring
Comment #43325 by MIND_REBEL on May 21, 2007 at 5:53 am
Humans have an innate moral code, which can only be corrupted by intense indoctrinazation. The reason why religous people are so immoral is because their memes have taken control of their brains, and it's causing them to fight and steal for thier "God".
86. Would the World Be Safer Without Religion?
Comment #43321 by MIND_REBEL on May 21, 2007 at 5:48 am
Religion is the cause of almost all of our problems. The 21 century will be the when progressive people stand up, and say that we're sick of all the wars in the name of religion, and we're not going to tolerate irrationality IN ANY FORM. Faith heads are so deluded they only think a perfect society can exist beyound the grave. Science suggests that humans could get along much better on earth if we'd only listen to what is rational.
An example is Sweden which is 80% hardcore atheist, and also has one of the highest standard of living in the world. If the world was to become atheist, then imagine the gains we would make globally.

Comment #42161 by MIND_REBEL on May 17, 2007 at 6:18 pm
Atheism by definition is not a religion and cannot be a religion because WE DON"T BELIEVE IN GOD OR GODS. It's simple. And the real difference is that atheism is correcting all the problems that religion and theism has caused. People like Dawkins and Harris have dedicated thier lives to making the world a better place. And faithheads just want to keep the world a miserable place so that people will still believe in god. It's about time people stopped dreaming about a heaven after death and started working towards building a better tomorrow on earth.
And the the fact Sweden and Finland are 90% percent atheist proves that theism is false and responsible for social dysfunction. Facts of science, learn to deal with it, instead of trying to destroy it.

Scott Atran's stawman attack on Sam Harris was disgraceful. If he had a personal problem with his views he should have said something in private. Scientists should fight against irrationality; not each other. Our opponnets will see weakness, and attempt to divide and conquer.

I'd love to see a debate between the pope and Sam Harris. If god really existed then he'd want it to happen and he would empower the pope to win, but god doesn't exist, and thats why the pope won't debate Sam Harris.
Doesn't matter where you live if you believe in god then you're stupid; brazil is no exception.
