It's ironic that the only kind of couples dancing the bible allows is with same-sex partners!
Opposite-sex dancing is considered too erotic and therefore sinful and condemned.
By the way, while we're on the subject, do you know why Baptists do not 'make love' standing up?
It's too much like dancing!

The practice of science cannot be called amoral.
The ethic of science is that the scientist must act in such a way that what is true may come to be known to be true.

#3The pursuit of truth is amoral. It is what we do with knowledge that needs moral consideration.
Is there ever a moral consideration that justifies halting scientific research?
#15I agree. When people believe their mythology to be true they ruin its beauty and whatever value it may contain is squandered.
The problem seems to be overcoming the idea that if you open yourself to new ideas, then you will automatically end up trashing the whole thing.

Mercy Ministries is a 501(c)(3) public charity that began in the United States.
From their Web site It was during and after college that Nancy Alcorn, a native Tennessean, spent eight years working for the state of Tennessee at a correctional facility for juvenile delinquent girls and investigating child abuse cases. Working for the state on a daily basis gave her direct encounters with the secular programs that were not producing permanent results that exemplified changed lives... Through her experience, she began to realize that only Jesus could bring restoration into the lives of the girls who were desperately hurting and searching for something to fill the void they felt in their hearts...
In January 1983, determined to establish a program in which lives would truly be transformed, Nancy moved to Monroe, Louisiana to start Mercy Ministries of America. As she began to lay the groundwork for the establishment of the ministry, she knew that there were three principles to which she must always remain faithful: (1) do not take any state or federal funding that may limit the freedom to teach Christian principles, (2) accept girls free of charge, and (3) always give at least ten percent of all Mercy Ministries' donations to other organizations and ministries.

If I wish to use an idea presented here, I'll pm the one responsible and I won't forget to give creds for the idea, that's the hardest part.

Great Scott! I'm nearly 57 years old and while I like all genres of music -- especially Jazz and R&B -- I dislike most songs…This isn't one of them. All the songs I have heard by The Bastard Fairies are well written and very provocative
The humor (yes that is RD & CH) and originality of this song are refreshingly precise…especially when compared to other current Pop songs. Unfortunately, on their blog, they go ballistic criticizing the idea of man's contribution to global climate change…all without presenting one shred of evidence, choosing instead to point the reader to Google to support their opinion. Very stupid.

Outside of biblical writing and a controversial reference made by the 1st century Jewish historian Josephus what other documents from the same time period mention Jesus of Nazareth? Without any the case for a historical Jesus is thin.
Whatever the case, Jesus, as described in the bible, most certainly did not exist. Beyond that it really doesn't matter much…it is mythology.

Comment #89620 by will young on November 21, 2007 at 9:17 am
In addition to being racists, polytheists, and believing the Garden of Eden was in Missouri, Mormons are also firmly committed to the belief that they are building Zion in America for the christ to return to, and reign over the world from, as king.
Ultimately Mormons consider themselves governed only by the christ and by proxy, until he returns, the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These leaders and living prophets are unquestionably believed to be divinely inspired to reveal the will of god and held to have the authority to carry out god's will over and above any and all temporal governments.
Polygamy was not stopped because it was against federal law, but because it was "revealed" to the church prophet at the time that it was no longer necessary. Dark skinned members were not given the Melchizedek Priesthood, which only males can currently hold, because of social pressure and falling membership, but because it was revealed by god that eligible dark-skinned members were no longer unworthy to hold the position.
Every time something contradicts a previously "revealed truth', either legally or because members start leaving or are harder to fool into joining, the prophet gets a revision of god's will that conveniently corrects the problem. If the church had more political power the opposite would happen.
Ask a Mormon about any of this and watch them squirm, unless, of course, they are good liars and then prepare for some hefty bullshit. Like their answer to livestock and forged steel in pre-columbian America, both of which the Book of Mormon claim.
Sorry, but never get me started on this subject…it hits way too close to home.

Giuliani is the worst of a bad bunch…
He told his wife he was leaving her for another woman during a public press conference.
His appointments would be no better - and likely worse - than those of Bush (think Kerik).
He used the WTC attacks for personal gain earning up to $200, 000 per speaking engagement posing as a terrorism expert.
He agrees with suspending civil liberties and doesn't think water-boarding is torture.
He supports the occupation of Iraq and a military strike on Iran.

I rented the DVD and it took me five or six attempts before I could finish watching the whole movie because I would get so pissed off angry that I would have to stop until I calmed down. The filmmakers did an excellent job and were completely non-biased, allowing the facts to speak for themselves.

Intellectual types…Less intellectual types…lazy-mindedUncomfortable terminology that over-generalizes.
"The long and short of all this is that Dalrymple feels that religion gives some people meaning to their lives and if you take this away they might well start to resemble the people he used to treat in prisons and hospitals."Religion can indeed mask mental illness and allow it to manifest itself into other, equally malignant forms. That religion can substitute for treatment and at the same time benefit society without perpetuating the disease it is supposed to cure is incomprehensible. Billy Graham might have been a pervert without religion, but with religion he perverted many minds -- at the very least into being lazy.

Going by what you said about "petty, seemingly pointless lives" he would have no grasp on "the rest of humanity". From the article he sounded like a snooty elitist and your statement confirmed this for me.
Thinking religion offers a useful door to something larger and more meaningful in some people's lives is a sure way of keeping those people ignorant. From personal experience, from within my own family, that is not a good thing by any stretch of the imagination. Only someone without an understanding of this could believe otherwise.

keith says, "I think Dalrymple feels that although the intellectually inclined can have larger-than-self interests like reading the classics or developing an appreciation of art, for the rest of humanity religion offers a useful door onto something outside their own petty, seemingly pointless lives."
So he is functionally illiterate concerning what it is like to be part of the "rest of humanity"…now that does make sense.
