Radesq
Its cetainly not but before it even gets a foothold its put squareley in its place.
Like RD says in one of his interviews, if you are religious in England you almost have to apologise for being so.
I think I'm just wondering why these things always seem to come out of America? and why they get as far as they do?
I genuinely want to be elucidated.

What can one say? In England this is not even up for debate.

54. Interview with Richard Dawkins: On Christmas
Comment #100387 by Eventhorizon on December 18, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Dont take this too seriously, its meant to be a bit tongue in cheek. Jeremy Vine is really rather good and quite often gives his religious guests a pretty hard time. It wouldnt surprise me if the two of them laughed about this interview afterwards (Cue Dawkins slipping Jeremy a tenner)

Of course somebody has the right to be jealous if their partner has an affair.
If you dont want to be in a monogomous relationship then dont be in one. If you want to sleep around then fine but dont lie to someone who believes they are the only one.
It really comes down to honesty.
I'm not sure if Richard intends this to read the way that it does. Maybe he'll clarify with a follow up?
57. Interview with Christopher Hitchens
Comment #89328 by Eventhorizon on November 20, 2007 at 10:06 am
I found this really quite annoying to watch.
I dont know if anyone noticed but the kid wasnt listening to a single word Hitchens was saying. And who kept walking in and out of that squeaky door?
58. 'Growing Up in the Universe' now available free online
Comment #87999 by Eventhorizon on November 14, 2007 at 4:19 am
I remember watching these when I was younger. Better still - if I remember correctly - they were actually shown on the BBC on Christmas day. It didnt occur to me at the time but this was obviously the BBCs antidote to all the nonsense that is shown over the Christmas period.
59. Sir David Attenborough on God
Comment #86678 by Eventhorizon on November 10, 2007 at 12:01 am
David Attenborough is a British institution and many people grew up watching his natural history documentaries.
His views on creation would be hard for many religious people to swallow simply because they watch his programmes and come away thinking 'what an amazing world god created'.
I've always wished that he would talk more strongly about his lack of belief but working for the BBC must be quite restrictive as they are worried about offending anyone.
Anyway it's a real bonus to have him on our side as he is so respected by the religious in this country.

You also have to be realistic.
Unfortunately religious people have the upper hand at the moment and saying you believe in the supernatural gives you some kind of immunity. I dont like it either but there you have it.
You wont bring people around to our way of thinking, firstly without being tactful and secondly without being smart.

I havent heard the talk he's refering to - where is all the footage from the AA conference by the way Josh? - but I kind of know what he means.
I dont think he's saying we should be apologetic when calling ourselves atheists but just to be tactful when we do. Firstly be mindful of when we label ourselves and be smart about it too.
63. Richard Dawkins and Alister McGrath
Comment #46735 by Eventhorizon on June 1, 2007 at 10:11 am
Did McGrath have a the biggest boner throughout this interview or what? It must have been his dream come true to be interviewed by the man he's utterly obsessed with.
He reminded me of one of those dolls where you pull a cord at the back and they just go on auto-pilot. 'Dont worry about giving a coherent answer just give an answer...any answer.
I felt slightly - and I do mean slightly - sorry for him in the end. I think Richard actually cracked him a long time ago but its just too much for him to think there is no god out there. Its kind of sad.

Comment #33403 by Eventhorizon on April 20, 2007 at 3:08 am
Many gay people had heard of this family years ago when they picketed the funeral of Matthew shephard to which the media paid little attention.
Its wasnt until they started protesting at the funerals of soldiers that somebody decided something should done!
Sorry, I had to get that off my chest

With regards to DavidJMH - Is it me or is he a seriously repressed homosexual?
There was an experiment done - in Georgia I think - that basically found that the more homophobic somebody was the more they were aroused by homosexual pornography.
Maybe this guy lives somewhere where its not easy to be gay but there are loads of websites and help groups, he just needs to make the first move. I hope he does soon and I hope he's ok.
68. Chimpanzees 'hunt using spears'
Comment #26241 by Eventhorizon on March 18, 2007 at 1:59 am
Biologists have already observed chimpanzies performing ritual 'dances' at specific sites in their habitat - mainly waterfalls - and at specific times. This is believed to be the beginings of religion.
Try Googling Barbara King.
69. Is Your Baby Gay? What If You Could Know? What If You Could Do Something About It?
Comment #26165 by Eventhorizon on March 17, 2007 at 10:56 am
I just see this as another nail in the coffin for Christianity. If it is ever to survive as a religion then people like this should really learn to keep their mouths shut!
Hopefully the issue of homosexuality will be the one that brings it all tumbling down. It would seem that we gays are really stirring things up within the church and I cant help but feel a little pleased at this prospect.
It strikes me that while it's abhorrent for anybody to hold views like this it also exposes the true nature of these people. Its just yet another own goal for relgion.
70. Richard Dawkins and the dangerous delusion of religion
Comment #25826 by Eventhorizon on March 15, 2007 at 10:43 am
Sorry for the subject change but the previous fellows comment reminded me of a great interview I found on Youtube by Bill Moyers with Margaret Atwood on religion. She does mention atheism as being a religion but apart from that bit its very good.
I'm sorry I'm not able to copy the link here but just search for Margaret Atwood on Youtube.

I'm struggling to see the funny side. This is just out-right dishonesty - a diliberate distortion of reality.
When the kids who read and believe things like this grow up and realise - as I'm sure they eventually will - that they've been blatently lied to, I know who they'll be going after. Watch this space!
73. Senator calls for answer on creation of universe
Comment #24227 by Eventhorizon on March 5, 2007 at 11:53 am
Wow! The knots some people will tie themselves up in because they simply cannot bare to think for a second that a supreme being doesnt exist and that the world he supposedly made may not actually revolve around them.
It also occurs to me that these people cant just be religious and believe in a God but need to be seen by other people to believe in a God. They are of course really just trying to convince themselves. "Dont think even for a second that we're all just living on a big ball thats floating somewhere in space. Now shut-up conscience and think about God". Denial by the bucketload here! Also in America there seems to be a real fear of accusations of atheism and I think this over-zelousness is a symptom of this. The episode of The Simpsons where they parody the Salem Witch Trials springs to mind.
74. Does Richard Dawkins exist?
Comment #21459 by Eventhorizon on February 9, 2007 at 8:58 am
It would appear that delusions are not exclusive to religion - asuming these clowns think they funny. This is actually cringe-worthingly unfunny and surely they'll eventually be embarassed that they ever released it!
75. Radical cleric sparks fury in Australia
Comment #18236 by Eventhorizon on January 19, 2007 at 4:57 am
So a Muslim cleric is making videos encouraging children to embrace the notion of blowing themsleves up and the best the Islamic Friendship Association can come up with is 'this is not helpful'. Another example of 'moderates' paving the way for this kind of fanticism. 'This is not helpful'? Are they serious?

Ps have a look at the atheistnation.net videos. Wafa Sultan owns the Muslim Cleric!
