Only sometimes? :(

Seriously, thanks!

Steve-

personally, I think we should call for balance by having an atheist speak at every one of David Robertson's church services. If that didn't happen, it would be as if people were just going there to hear him give only ONE side of the debate. And that would be wrong, of course.

;-)

First of all, is that even a practical solution to circumcision?

It's certainly not a pleasant one.

you make a good point. Perish the thought. Of course, it's entirely possible that I was being ironic. I know, I know: it's so unlike me.

1107. My quest to get de-baptised

Comment #152444 by Quetzalcoatl on March 31, 2008 at 3:20 am

I wasn't aware that being baptised was something that actually got recorded and used in official stats. Might be wrong though.

I think I was baptised, but I'm not so worried about getting de-baptised, since the whole thing clearly didn't work to begin with!

Clearthinker is not a believer in ID. Therefore, it must be the latter. It's always good to know that common ground can be found between the atheists and the believers.

but weren't the parents simply doing what the Bible says would work, by praying for their child to be healed? Faith the size of a mustard seed, moving mountains and all that? If they were wrong, why is your interpretation of the purpose of prayer more valid than their's?

Comment #152009 by Quetzalcoatl on March 30, 2008 at 2:43 am

Well firstly-

what's your opinion on the parent's actions? Do you think they were wrong, if so- why? What does this story say about the efficacy of prayer?

Epeeist-

I found that site a couple of days ago from a link on the WDH site. Check out this page-

http://www.unleavenedbreadministries.org/?page=dreamsvisions

A nice excerpt from one of the "prophecies"-

The next thing I saw was what looked like black arrows being released by black demonic spirits. These black demons come upon these people in their social function--within the church. These black demons started attacking these people. These people started grabbing their heads as these demons attacked. They started going crazy. They could not handle the demonic pressures and forces of these demonic powers in the last days! I had the sense that there would be those that would say they were Christians, born again, yet would be committed to mental institutions. They would go in for psychiatric care because they could not cope with what was coming upon the earth

Rapture-ready and bat-shit crazy, every one of them.

EDIT- I question your definition of Ben Stein as a third-rate actor. That's too high.

Ah, I think this means that Adam would die that day! If God meant spiritual death, or death 900 years later, why not say so?

If it is sinful, then he isn't perfect.
If it isn't sinful, then he is a hypocrite, which is sinful, so he isn't perfect

I'm going to try and get into a religious mindset...I can feel my brain cells dying.

Anyway. Perhaps God is not a hypocrite, since he is a higher being, and his ways are beyond ours. We are imperfect, and should not lie. But God is perfect. And being perfect means knowing when lieing is necessary. But since he does so to accomplish his plan, which is perfect, and everything he does is perfect, then he cannot be a hypocrite, since that is imperfect. It is just that we, with our limited minds, cannot comprehend it.

I think that means that China could completely trash the US economy if it wanted to, by dumping their dollar reserves. Of course, crippling the dollar would also royally screw much of the rest of the world's economy, so they probably won't do that.

A cynical person might wonder whether the parents would be so eager to trust in the power of prayer if they were the ones suffering from illness. For instance, from the sickening agony of a burst appendix. How keen would they then be to put their faith in God over modern medicine?

This is a prime example of the stupidity of much of religion. With faith you can move mountains, prayer can heal the ill. Then when people who actually believe that crap try it, this is what happens. Shameful.

The girl has three siblings, ranging in age from 13 to 16, the police chief said.

"They are still in the home," he said. "There is no reason to remove them. There is no abuse or signs of abuse that we can see."

Just wait until one of them gets ill.
