The sad part is, that scientists are working hard, through the study of evolution (among others) to come up with cures and treatments, to save and prolong the lives of the very people who seek to tear their profession down.

Getting people to believe the bible is a powerful thing. They say to a young child, "this is the only truth" and then cite the passages that say "no matter what we are right, and no matter what they are wrong". And then it discourages use of evidence or critical thinking.

I think you take issue with two things:


1) The tone of our rhetoric
2) The specific comment by Dawkins.


I will address these in order.


1) Try to think like a person who only accepts rational evidence as a basis for belief. I know you may believe in a deity or whatever else, but pretend you don't. Now everything you believe is subject to evidence. For instance, you believe the world is round, because this is proven, now imagine a man coming along and quoting some unproven book, written by an author that may or may not exist, and this book says the earth is flat. How long would you listen to this before you just called him an idiot.

A point can be reached in debate, where one person is far departed from the other person's reality as to make discussion near impossible. If one person accepts this unsupported book as evidence, and the other simply asks for proof, how frustrating is it for you... the rationalist.

If you follow the debate with Remnant, you will see a man doing just what our fictitious flat earther has done, quoting a book which is unsubstantiated and using these selective quotes to comment on a reality, and this commentary is contradicted by observable evidence. There is little one can do but call the person what they are "foolish". He is free to leave, but my guess is that he feels his intellectual suffering here somehow mirrors Christ, and his bearing of the Cross.


Now:


2) When Dawkins refers to god, he is saying that in the general reference to an Abrahamic type God. This god is logically impossible, and scientifically impossible. So it is impossible that this god created anything.

That is the point. If you care to read some books on the topics of science, physics, logic, etc... You too can at least understand the premise of this argument, even if you do not agree.

And don't sweat the spelling mistakes. I spelled Dr. Benway's name wrong for 4 months. And don't ask me to spell commitee (sp?).

How, then, do you determine what is directed strictly at the circle of people around Jesus (Apostles as you call them) and what is directed at all of humanity. Jesus only preached to those around him.

I am no doubt one of the people of whom you speak.

My position is as follows: My accusations of stupidity, incompetence, child-like credulity, etc... are well founded, in that they are all true of many of the IDiots who come here. As for more personal attacks, I view it as the following... When someone adheres to a doctrine that says I am going to be tortured for all eternity because I don't share their belief, there is little I could say that would be more pernicious.
