The difference, using your example of GW, is that we don't use him as an example of why slavery should be ok today. We advanced beyond that, islam has not, they are living as if several centuries have not past since the Moh. did his nasty deeds.

Don't the feminists hold a big conference every year to discuss how women are treated worldwide, with representatives from muslim countries included? Not that this has helped, but I suppose some women get their heads out of the sand long enough to pay attention. Also, I think that there is an organization that one can contribute to, that bankrolls women-run businesses in the third world. It actually has a higher loan payoff than most banks. My point is, that not all women are ignoring the horrid conditions of their sisters in other countries. This would be an example of generalizing that we were talking about.

Careful, big guy. Most women I know, would be offended if you said you were "defending" them. I think the women posters on this site are quite capable of defending themselves. Making supportive comments, on the other hand, is what I notice you doing.

I think that you are a little thin skinned. If you hang around more than four days, you will find that generally posters aren't called "fucktard" right off the bat. It is a title that has to be earned.
Many posters here have tried to discuss on an intellectual level with David Robertson, for example. After puting up with his circular logic and repetitive nonsense for awhile, he earned, and for good reasons, the term. If it offends you, so what? Maybe some people would be offended by you "letting one rip in a mosque". So what?
I think that there is a difference between losing an argument and getting frustrated, then start name-calling, and name-calling when it makes a good point. I can say, "GW invaded Iraq under false pretenses, therefore he is an a-hole". Everyone understands what I mean and it fits, so why not?
Have a nice day, and remember to smell good.

I have two friends who are originally from Pakistan and who were "married" at a young age. They both stayed at home with their parents until it was felt that she was "old enough", 17 or 18.
Now, several years later, she is a practicing MD, and he works at a mini mart here in the U.S. I like them both, but she has confided in me that she hates his guts. He thinks he is superior because he's the man and tells her how to do things... I told her to get a divorce, but she said she'd be treated horribly by her community. Me: With a community like that, who needs enemies. Oh, and besides the intelligence factor, in looks, she's a 10 and he's a 2 1/2. I don't see how this system can work.

I had high hopes for string theory, I wish it could be shown that it was very likely. It would mean GUT could be just around the corner. Unfortunately, wishing in science gets you absolutely nowhere. I still like to read about string theory though. Maybe parts of the 5 theories can eventually become one theory (m theory). Some brilliant people are working in this area. I won't hold my breath though. And I agree with Steve, about the mild desperation.

I went to the local catholic thrift and bought a stack for a dollar, and couldn't get past the first chapter in any of them. Oh well, at least I kept them out of the hands of young people.
