101. Add another flea to the list...

Why do you think people who believe in God (as I do) have a "need for a supernatural crutch?"

To explain away the "as yet" unexplainable to those who challenge, rather than to admit that "the jury is out".

wyattroberts: what atheists are supposed to be about -- examining the evidence?

Atheists are about NOT having a belief in a god or gods...I am sure there are many atheists who do not look for evidence at each and every turn, but live their lives to the full each and every day without the need for a supernatural crutch.

I think it is very generous of RD net to provide links to the online bookstores for the fleas...do the theist websites reciprocate in the "spirit" of mutual (mis)understanding I wonder?

Comment 46 by gcujimmy: For what it's worth, I know the feeling! This is the first and only forum I have ever joined and I spent many weeks/months perusing it before I joined and then again before I posted....and I am sure we are not alone! But I am sure you realised as I did that there isn't an overt intellectual elitism displayed here...everyone on this site just comes across as just being themselves....honestly. Maybe a fear of feeling intellectually inadequate may delay or put some people off from contributing initially (like it did me)...but to be honest I think the wit and wisdom found here on the forums more than compensates for any foolish statements I might make! We're all here to learn.

I kinda got the feeling of someone who has played Pascals' wager, and then realised late in life that they may have wasted their life, careers everything on a pipe dream and is now bitter and twisted.

The ABoC has definitely stirred up a hornets nest...no matter what he may decide to say tomorrow! there are over 6,800 comments submitted to the BBC website alone (1750 posted) (Edit: and rising). Many other papers are also running the story with readers comments as well, most of them in the same vein as the posts here...It (sharia) does not affect me and it won't affect me, but a lot of non church going C of E folk are getting pissed off with so much political and religious appeasement even it it never touches their lives personally.

Hear hear! That's why I posted above, that when Creationist ("scientists") wilfully try to deceive people, they should be ridiculed...in such a way as to point out their dishonesty to the audience....granted not everyone knows the "scientific method", but a scientist in a debate should know or be damned forever.

Next time a creationist mentions that "Evolution is just a theory".....Maybe the retort should be something along the lines of, "Are you implying that the listeners are all so stupid that they do not know the definition of a scientific theory? Like for example "Eintein's General Theory of Relativity", is just a theory?"...."How arrogant and deceitful of you, I am sure that the audience are delighted to know that you think that they are all morons!"

Aren't Newton's "Theory of Universal gravitation" superceded by Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" (Equivalence) just theories as well? Who is he trying to fool? He's just preaching to the choir. All of these "Theories" have been found to stand up to the rigours of scientific testing and examination time after time and still these disrespectful scientists(?) will not accept it. If they were doctors, they would be struck off. I feel sorry for the children having to grow up in indoctrinated ignorance.

Just for the record what exactly is a "passionate anti-Darwinian" as he describes himself?

Nature maybe "red in tooth and claw", but Homo sapiens (brain/consciousness) has "evolved" beyond that (happy with that word?) and now should be able to deal with more complex societies without having to resort to instinct.
