*wipes tears of mirth from eyes* an enlightened church might be a good idea but if they can't recruit or indoctrinate they eventually go to the wall surely?

Might be a good thing actually-I'd plump for the legal framework to be put in place to stop religious indoctrination from a young age and combine it with children making an informed choice prior to leaving school-anything to prevent religious indoctrination and hopefully preventing future fuck-ups like this from happening

Sorry for intemperate language but sometimes swearing is the only option

The trouble is children will be allowed in churches (and mosques and temples)so that vampire preists and vicars can get em while they are young and impressionable-I stopped going after my catholic confirmation (around 11 yrs old-boy that was hoot) and never went back until my late mothers funeral some 6 years ago-also as an aside I thought Sunday schools provided the sort of service you mention in your posting-I may be wrong but I never went....

I'd still give children religious schooling but from the age of say 14 onwards ask them to make an informed choice regarding religion and whether they wish to carry on in whatever faith they've been schooled or discard it altogether

Have to agree with phil rimmer on his last point but can't see any Muslim groups agreeing to legislation such as this let alone any branch or offshoot of the Xtian faith-they'd be screaming about human rights abuses just putting the idea to them surely?

Sad as it is Double Bass Atheist I wouldn't let it bum you out- the parents will go through life knowing full well the lack of action fully contributed to the daughters death not some misguided perceived lack of faith on their part-just rewards I think and punishment enough-for now or until they are proescuted-fuck 'em anyway.....

Double Bass Athiest

Thanks for the links-truly sickening aren't they?

All those lives wasted because of "faith in the lord" and religious poisoning

Can't be a god cause he/she/it wouldn't allow this level of suffering surely?-just proves god is a bastard after all

Sorry 7Fred7 but the fact they prayed for the child to live while actually watching the poor kid waste and die says neglect to me, faith or lack of it notwithstanding.

Saying religion is the guilty party is wrong. I feel the parents are still to blame and to that end should be charged.

Maybe they'll take comfort from the fact their daughter may be resurrected some time soon-but I ain't holding my breath

I was intending to stop coming to this site but skimming the discussions and seeing stuff such as this makes my blood fucking freeze-surely the "parents" have to be charged with manslaughter, if not then negligence?

The power of prayer eh? Partway into the 21st century and people die cause of religion and superstition-fucking tragic......

So what's your point?

I assume you do have one because if not you're a pretty poor specimen of what religion does to people-by the way (and I may be off beam here) but I thought being gay was down to a genetic determination at conception?-one doesn't become gay simply because of atheism you idiot

SRWB

January 1st is so obviously out as he'd be recovering from New Years Eve 4005 BC surely?
Or does the duck billed platypus disprove this-he must have been blind drunk when he created it or was it deliberately done to fuck with our heads?

115. The Salamander's Tale

Comment #139230 by Prankster on March 5, 2008 at 10:42 am

Maybe he was getting in a early start as he wanted to create everything on Thursday the 25th?

That way he gets a long weekend until he tells pesky humankind to keep Sunday as a day of rest-also the clocks go back then around the end of October so he could go out on Halloween when it was dark enough for trick or treating?

Are you referring to the dates in comment 284 By Tyler?

Why worry we know they are not the slightest bit correct-mind you if Wooter has disappeared to check his calendar and disappears for the next few hours then that's a blessing surely?

That's why the date I mentioned was so vivid in my mind! of course some theologian added the begats and lifespans of all the characters in the Bibble.

Very obviously the work of someone with far too much time on their hands.....

Of course "goddidit" seems to be the magical panacea/placebo for Wooter and the Ker-azy wacky world he inhabits.

Wasn't the earth created back around 4004 bc according to an eminent 18th or 19th scientist/scholar fundamentalist religious nut?

I couldn't give you a firm date sorry but I'm assuming EVERYTHING ELSE was created around then?

That's a crock of shit obviously but this is wooter remember?

Comment #139041 by Prankster on March 5, 2008 at 4:13 am

Off changing my avatar-now realised it's scaring the fuck out of me and probably a few others....

Back on topic-the whole question of what is the point of the bish is? simple-money, religious power and acting as some committee appointed middleman telling you his version of what he thinks "GOD" is saying to us via his book of fairy-stories-like I said previously no need for this position of authority or power in this day and age

Someone posted a cracking quote on this forum ages ago along the lines of "when the last king is strangled by the entrails of the last priest, only then will man be free"-simply put the day religion dies will be the happiest day ever for mankind

123. What's the Point of the Archbishop of Canterbury?

Comment #139016 by Prankster on March 5, 2008 at 3:11 am

The point?

A single man holding on to a fast-fading outmoded form of dog-worship which has no place in modern 21st Britain-that's his function

It's a position and privilege that's no longer required

124. US Treaty with Tripoli

Comment #138439 by Prankster on March 4, 2008 at 10:17 am

I can see where the confusion lies-I would say "well regulated militia" is the qualification-

Hhowever would I be right in thinking that in times of crises or war militias (not a regular professional army)would be raised composed of people having weapons, therefore "their right to keep and bear arms would not be infringed" for the security of the state and this is the crux of the argument?

125. US Treaty with Tripoli

Comment #138431 by Prankster on March 4, 2008 at 10:05 am

I'm still wading through the constitution-other more mundane tasks permitting. My interpretation (and I may be wrong so please don't anyone tear me a new one) is that the only people who should be able to bear arms should be the militia (national guard, whatever, call it what you want)and no one else would be permitted-that was my interpretation......be back after I've read some more

129. US Treaty with Tripoli

Comment #138372 by Prankster on March 4, 2008 at 8:44 am

Just looking at the second amendment, surely it's one sentence? One sentence that essentially says "in order to maintain a free state a well ordered militia (the national guard, say) is necessary and to that end according to the grammar of the sentence)the only people who should have the right should be the national guard"

The argument can be further clarified by simply reversing the amendment to read the following "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, in order to maintain a well regulated militia"

This doesn't mean any Burl Cletus or Floyd has the right to carry a gun. It doesn't say every psycopathic nut-job in the States should be allowed to carry a weapon

Sorry to be picky but that's how I read it....

Dividing my time between this thread waiting for hello or god to make an appearance (my money's on god by the way) as it's gone quiet on the theist front and watching a tv programme about Stephen Hawking.

Hello hello!

Another Friday Night another flea-byte rearing it's head eh? You were asked a few short hours ago to provide proof of the almighty's existence? Hmm yes? Well how's it going so far? Pretty quiet on the revelations front isn't it?

I generally come to this site because i don't believe in a 3000 year old stone age superstition ok? I KNOW he doesn't exist so YOU have to furnish proof-simply saying he exists cause of the difference in people's lives is a cop-out-that could be down to strong medication or a positive outlook on life not the infusion of religion. Therefore I implore you, nay beseech you to reveal him to us.......no puff of smoke no? No divine revelations?

Right, ok then, can you please go away, get the almighty to reveal himself and then pop back here when he shows up ok?

Till then? just go away......please

This video not been posted before?

I remember adding a comment some weeks ago saying it was a really terrible video (bad acting awful special effects and unlikely to trouble the Oscars judging panel) around the time that Heath Ledger died and the WBC (boo! hiss!) came out with their comments over him

Stuff like this makes my blood curdle-not with fear just anger. The fact a child has been caught peddling this garbage whilst trying to convert his classmates seems to make it worse somehow-it's not something that can be ignored either and that's whats annoying me

My 3 current books at the moment are

"The Court of the Red Tsar" by Simon Sebag Montefiore

"Nazi Germany" by Klaus P Fischer

"A History of Modern Britain" by Andrew Marr

fiction would include the "Spellsinger" series by Alan Dean Foster plus the Bible-always good for a chuckle

Comment #129649 by Prankster on February 19, 2008 at 12:23 pm

Chilling........

The bit with the young child imploring people not to murder their children-unbeleivable-if they say religious indoctrination (or fucking pushy arsehole stupid parents goading them into it) is not a form of child abuse then this programme surely blows that assertion out the fucking water?

The bit where he cried was sad-perhaps there is a child in there but that child is stifled and absolutely (or so it seems) in fear of what will happen when he dies-he's terrified of going to hell poor mite-that's the parents fault surely?

Fucking sad really, a child of 7 or 8 imploring people to repent or go to hell

I weep for the planet if it's coming to this-time to get on the spaceships and get the fuck off this rock forevermore.....
