101. God, sex, drugs and politics

There are two good things here. One is that the vaccine may get to do its job, the second is that the loonies are going to be more visible attacking one of their own!
On the down side, the just-as-loony-as-fundamentalists anti immunisation lobby will start its outrageous, ignorant, and improperly researched campaign.

Spot on!
103. In praise of Darwin this Sunday ... in hundreds of churches!

"visibly angry" ? How can they watch TV with their eyes shut? RD seemed calm and measured to my eyes. Maybe "upset at the atrocities of religion" would have been more correct.
104. Interview With an Atheist

This does the one thing theists find so hard ... imagine.
105. The God Delusion
Comment #21730 by neander on February 10, 2007 at 7:57 pm
My daughter is an expert on Santa Claus. Her arguements in favour seem far more rational and evidence based than any in the so called theological debates. Lets not forget that theists are desperately using ANY rationalisations they can find to stop themselves facing their own delusions. To have to admit to yourself that your were foolish .... to hard for most.
106. Does Richard Dawkins exist?
Comment #21723 by neander on February 10, 2007 at 7:29 pm
Parts of it may be funny, others tend to be a bit personal. However, the religious CAN NOT put themselves under this sort of satire. Lets not forget that ANYTHING that can't tolerate "taking the piss" runs a real chance of winding up as dogma. Not funny - probably. But RD and atheists can easily handle scrutiny!
107. The Current: Part 3: The Religious Right

derbysbright "hope you realise the UK population has little idea that the American taliban are getting this strong. The religious Blair is not helping - faith schools here are growing. A matter of time until these anti naturalists get here.More of a threat than global warming."
This is right. Aussies also seem blissfully unaware of the danger. Our crackpot PM Howard and even the potential new PM are from the same mould.
108. Meet the Relatives. They're Full of Surprises.

This sounds like a fantastic exhibit. What a pity my children and I will not see it (Australians). Most of the scientific-evolutionary news out of the US is so terrifying, that it is good to hear that some Americans are sane, normal, and capable of leading the world in science. Let us hope that the exhibit doesn't get picketed.
109. The questions science cannot answer
Comment #21716 by neander on February 10, 2007 at 7:04 pm
How about we send Mr. McGrath an alternative title: "The questions science can answer if only you have an open mind."
From long experience as a science teacher, there is almost no use arguing with a theist. Expertly brainwashed they are faced with two alternative realities: either they are correct, or they are wrong and have made a fool of themselves for years. As no-one wants to be a fool they must be correct. ANY rationalization will do to keep their worldview. Mr. McGrath is just desperately trying to convince himself that he isn't a fool. What a pity that he attacks others in the process.
110. Panel discussion on atheism where no atheists are included

Nothing like watching bigots in action is there?
The Pullitzer Prize committee must do doing some real investigating now as to how a ghost writer scooped the prize!
111. God and gorillas

Basically the fact that other apes act like us is not surprising! She is religious and guess what? Apes show how it began. Please!
Even if it were true it still shows religions as a horrendous construct that needs removing. Ms King has made her religion definition way too vague to be trusted. When has natural behaviour been religious. Also, many apes practice rape, infantocide, cannabalism, incest and murder..... hey maybe they really are the start of religion.
112. [Warning: Graphic] Children's foreheads slashed in Muslim saint's name

I too, would like to see squiddity rewrite the passage in a more PC manner. As for cirumcision, lets have everyone posting a comment actually state their condition. Their own possession or lack will obviously affect their "bias" when reading articles that support their beliefs. Suggestions that circumcision reduce the rate of spread of cervical cancer or aids tend to be used to support the practice in favour of the significantly more effective practice of using a condom! (Intact and healthy).
113. Did humans wipe out Australia's big beasts?
Comment #19919 by neander on January 30, 2007 at 4:31 pm
The idea that aboriginal Australians did not cause this extinction is not just PC, it is inherently racist!
It assumes that aboriginal Australians were somehow different to other humans and incapable of hunting or killing large easy targets. Just like ALL of us today, primitive human societies only undertake ecological steps when we have to.
