Scott McMeekin,

Who gives a fuck where the story appears. Is it true or false? If it's true than it doesn't matter who conveys the information.

Bonzai,

That is an interesting analysis. You think it is subtle European xenophobia that drives them to keep these people on welfare as oppose to integrating them?

So do you think the Muslims want to assimilate but the governments won't let them?

Fanusi,

Jizya literally means "Tax in lieu of being killed". It was just too much hassle to kill all the non-believers, so the state saw it as a source of income.

I don't know if these crooks see it as a jizya, I just think that they have no respect for the countries they live in. I think most Muslims don't understand the finer points of jizya (as most are ignorant of everything, including their own religion). They suck the state dry (welfare) because they are often indolent fatalists (in Europe that is, America is a different story altogether).

Crap being thrown at you? Maybe, just maybe, Muslims should stand up and say "I disagree with the stoning of adulterers" and "I don't agree to executing apostates" and "I don't agree with amputating the limbs of thieves".

When you eschew things like this, your credibility will be through the roof, as long as there are whiny apologetics in response to legitimate criticism, then you will have a credibility problem.

I am an American, when an American does something stupid I say "That guy is an idiot", no apologetics, no obfuscations. Why don't Muslims make that a similar habit? The only reason I can think of is they secretly support the nonsense that goes on.

RamziD,

What are Fanusi and Al's credentials that make them experts on islam? BTW, I'm not asking this as a challenge or trying to be insolent. I'm just genuinely curious as to where their thorough knowledge of islam comes from. Fanusi and Al: I know it's kind of awkward that I'm addressing this to Toad, but he was the one who brought it up. Of course, you can answer for yourselves if you like.

I studied Arabic, Turkish, and Urdu at Berkeley. My general degree was in Middle Eastern Studies. Most of the coursework was in the Near Eastern Studies Department. My advisor was Hamid Algar (translator for Imam Khomeini and author of dozens of books and journal articles on Islam). My thesis was on Muhammad Ibn Abd al-Wahhab in which I translated large portions of several of his works.

In addition to the actual coursework I studied independently with a Mauritanian "shaykh" and his student. I also spend a LOT of time reading, and keep up to date with most of the latest in publications on topics Middle Eastern and Islamic.

I have also published several itmes, but if you want the info on those go ahead an PM me, as there is more background needed.

Oh and finally my blog with I shamelessly plug here:

I have your home address now, I am sending "flowers". Which kind of Sox are you watching, Red or White? I played in the Minor Leagues for Tampa Bay. I was born in Chicago and we were Cubs fans.... not South side.

Vin,

Uhhh about JihadWatch and DhimmiWatch etc... I don't particularly like Robert Spencer. I think his grasp on traditional Islamic studies is a bit tenuous. But I am an elitist in this sense because I had the chance to study classical Islamic studies and Arabic... the Arabic with a Mauritanian (the text was the al-Ajarumiyya). So I must also say that Spencer does the world a service by voicing these opinions in such a way. I don't like his Catholic tint, but he brings forth important issues, and even if he is wrong he forces people to read and debate the issue.

Spencer and the team at Jihad Watch and Front Page Magazine may be the biggest racist assholes on the planet, it doesn't concern me, I evaluate the information they provide on a rational, case by case basis. The facts they use are generally solid, their analysis can be, in some instances, slightly overblown. But that might be just what we need.

Well the Indians were pretty busy scalping one another before the white man came is all I am saying. Indians act like they were sitting around smoking the peace pipe and discussing philosophy and then the evil white man showed up and things went bad. I believe they had axes BEFORE whites came. But it's cool, blame everything on someone else, victim status carries a lot of water on this site, a lot of weeping liberals to support your cause.

And don't blame whites for their germs and viruses, they didn't even know what those were.

Hey but just let me say I am really really really sorry for something I didn't do, my ancestors didn't do, that happened 300 years before I was born. When I get that time machine working (it just sits in my garage unfinished now, I keep saying I will get around to it...) I will go back and tell the ass hole settlers to not be ass holes.

It's like original sin around here.

I realize the Indians got a raw deal, but weren't a lot of Indians killed by OTHER Indians? And weren't some Indians pretty nasty in their treatment of whites they encountered?

Anyhow, it sucks the way Indians were treated, I would rather have seen them included, but what happened happened. I am not going to feel bad about something I didn't do.

I went to high school with a Native American kid and he didn't seem to resent America too much, especially as he had a brand new car and lived in a nice big house... casino profits. Casino Morongo.... and, yes, I have made a few "donations" to the local tribes.

He/She/it assumes we are about the same, simply "alarmists" (never mind our bitter disagreements about some detailed topics).

You are right we need MANY MANY MANY more articles like this....

thereligionofpeace.com

They post an article that has anything to do with a Muslim doing something wrong. Sometimes it is just a coincidence (a criminal who happened to be Muslim) but mostly it details the day to day madness of Islam.

BTW I posted a new blog entry on why Iran wants nuclear weapons, and the strategic threats...

Jiten,

You certainly lead the charge in bitching and moaning about myself and Fanusi. I would like you to show me where I have been overly alarmist, or been wrong about something? And for the record I constantly disagree with Fanusi.

As for this being "overplayed", you really don't seem to get it, do you. When the Iranians finally come into conflict with Israel and the US (which will happen by January 2009), they close the Strait of Hormuz, and the "end of days" rhetoric comes rolling out of Qom and Tehran you can tell us how we are all harping on a problem too much. Or maybe when Iran gets nuclear weapons, maybe then you will get it.

I think the Islam issue is the most pressing issue. Christians are annoying and fucking stupid, but they aren't lining up to kill Americans, Brits and other Europeans. This article right here is evidence of the pedantic and absurd nature of shariah and Islamic thought in general. It brings up a point, even if this article is completely fabricated, that has not been been dealt with, even remotely.

If you don't like what I have to say, or what Fanusi has to stay feel free to steer clear of these threads. I mean you see "Islam" in the title and then get all miffed when Fanusi and I comment. You would think the surprise might wear off.

The spread of Christianity is irrlevant. If you are trying to forward it as evidence for something, you should know better as it is a logical fallacy.

Like I said, take a look at Euro-policies and take a look at Chinese policies, and then American policies, you can guess who is building a more sustainable world order.

If you cannot see the coming crisis for America, then you are willfully blind.

Oh and let's not forget the "happiness" factor, Denmark is the happiest country in the world. And Denmark has the 3rd highest proportion of Atheists in the world. How about them apples?

Robert O'Brien.

America is currently in poor economic shape, no doubt, but we remain a superpower, unlike England. The best the English can muster these days is "me-too!"

As for China, are you aware that Christianity is growing rapidly there? :)

We remain a superpower by deficit spending. We are selling government debt to foreign powers like China, which essentially allows them the ability to control the potency of our currency. We have used oil as a gold standard for our dollar, but soon the Gulf Countries will unpeg their currency from the dollar. After Kuwait did, their currency tripled in value.

England does not need to be a super power, America foolishly shoulders all adventures in imperialism. And Europe is going to be the greatest superpower. They are including states well into the Russian sphere now, and getting oil and gas pipelines that will not be under the control of Russian client states. The turn around in the Balkans has been a model for the benefits of inclusion in the EU.

Christianity in China is spreading? Okay, this proves what exactly? Nothing considering China is mostly a country of uneducated farmers and plow workers. This is a country with forced sterilization. The uneducated are always quick to accept stupid ideas.

I don't want you to think I'm completely down on the English, friend. It's just that it seems to me the old blood is all but spent in Britain, leaving only the Anglo-Saxon dross. And your country's slide into atheism is parallel to your slide into irrelevancy.

As a fellow American let me comment.

Your assessment is so wildly incorrect as to demand response. If you look at a comparison between the economic and political approaches between the US and Europe there is a glaring contrast. The European Union is spreading, and it is successful. It is incorporating new, former Soviet, states and providing them with economic incentives to modernize.

What is the US doing? Nothing. We could well be incorporating Latin states into a similar type of union, but instead we are letting the Chinese steal our lunch all over South America. And this may well proceed a slip into irrelevancy.

In fact the US will certainly slip into irrelevancy if the cretinists take a bigger role. As it stands now, about 25% of Americans 18-24 cannot find the Pacific Ocean on a map. Most all of them cannot find New Jersey on a map. So this ignorance does not preceed a surge in the world economy, but rather a decline.

And don't look now, but the dollar is losing strength against both the Euro and the British pound.

So how exactly is England "slipping into irrelevancy"?

Its aim is to make
British public, institutions and media aware of the needs and demands of the
Muslim community in the field of education and possible solutions.

Which demands?

Muslim scholars see the pursuit of knowledge as a duty, with the
Quran containing several verses to the rewards of learning.

Surat al-'Aalq, what a tired act you Muslims perform. And the other verses, would those be before or after the Qur'an says the earth is flat.... you know, where Dhu al-Qarnayn travels to the ends of the earth (I didn't know it had an end, but Allahu A'alam) and sees the sun set into a murky well? Or is it nearer the verse that says sperm comes from the spine?

I hope you are teaching your children these important lessons from the Qur'an, along with the Hadith that says Satan will reside in the upper part of your nose all night.

Majority of them are
underachievers because they are at a wrong place at a wrong time

Maybe it is because they hear In sha Allah 600 times per day and have become fatalists like their parents? Did it ever occur to you that maybe the Muslims community should shoulder some of the blame? Nah, fuck it, blame Israel.

There is no place for a
non-Muslim child or a teacher in a Muslim school.

Just like there can be no polytheists or atheists or animists in a state run by Shari'a. They are put to death. I will give you Muslims one thing, and I admire it, you are consistent.

Personally I am not particularly fond of systematisers and I definitely don't like big power blocs like governments, corporates, unions and the like especially when there is collusion between them.

So then you are a libertarian.... someone who thinks people should be protected from centralization of power?

Rachel Holmes,

It seems to me that what drives progress is a healthy balance between cooperation and competition. And sometimes a mix of both... For instance a corporation could put three development teams on the same project and offer a bonus to whomever best solves the problem... or you can do it the socialist way... have the state own the corporation, it will be run by the President for Life's incompetent porn addicted nephew, and the whoever doesn't make the problem worse will be considered the victor and be given the very same ration of bread.

I am being slightly sarcastic, but the point is there can be cooperation and competition for excellence. There often can only be one winner.

Quetz,

Like I said, it might have more to do with the fact that the schools are private and free from the monument to bureaucracy that is state education.

Each school that is private only has to worry about its student body, usually less than 1,000 students. However the state system has a hierarchy of bureaucrats who mummify the system with red tape. The public system is responsible for millions. I hope I don't excite the Marxist collectivists who lurk here, but independent actors tend to be more efficient. It has nothing to do with religion.
