I have come to expect next to nothing in the way of enlightened social commentary from the science world. It is primarily reactionary, with a blind eye to history.

The racism card gets thrown too much. It goes for all over, examples:

1)"Israeli settlements are illegal"
-"Anti-semite"

2) "Islam is based on barbaric texts"
-"racist"

This is the common form, too bad that people can't be rational and actually listen to what people are saying before starting the chanting of liberal slogans.

I was just curious. It would be a great fit for Fanusi. He is keen on being an American citizen and keen on killing Muslims. I figured this would be two birds with one stone. He talks a good game about punching people who call him a Nazi, so I figure he would be a perfect fit.

The growing trend is really here in the West now. it is a trend wherever there is creeping westernization. Palestinian universities experienced it. So it is prevelant in US universities as well. I had classes with at least 4 girls who did not wear the hijab, but later chose to wear it (chose meaning there was no husband to force them, I am not ruling out a father's pressure). In a Middle Eastern Country which is impotent, and sees an increase in westernization, there may be a push back, part of which is wearing the veil.

Agreed. I didn't say we shouldn't. The point is the following (at least what I believe is the point):

Are there particles in the air that damage our environment? Are these produced by people? If so why not reduce them, even if it is only a larger trend.

Tyler,

And what about the evidence for global dimming? I was very convinced by a program on global dimming. It seems that it posits something different than global warming.

There is too many fucktards not only breathing in the world, but running large countries. We cannot get most of them (here in the US) to understand the facticity of a past event (evolution) well evidenced and researched. How, then, do you propose to convince them of the following:

1) There is a shit storm coming.
2) This could end our world.
3) This is a bad thing.

I think we are totally fucked, even if we do survive there will be irreparable damage to our environment. I honestly hope that global warming is just bull shit, because if it isn't... we are doubly fucked.

Keith,

Even better, we can do the test from our armchairs without any wild speculation. If we look at how the non-Muslim Arabs behave, who are subject to the same prevations you have gone on about at such length, then if Sam is right, we should expect to see more violence from the Muslim Arabs than, say, Christian Arabs.

I tend to think Sam is right, by coincidence, not by astute observation and study. He has chanced upon several correct opinions.

As for non-Muslim Arabs, we have seen Christian suicide bombers (Lebanese) attack numerous targets. George Habash (a Christian) led the PFLP, which was responsible for plane hijackings. I think in general non-Muslim Arabs are generally less outwardly violent, but you must take into account the fact that these are minorities. In another instance, Jews were largely passive residents in Europe for many years, once they have gained a foothold, unity and funding, they have turned to far more nasty tactics in Palestine. The fact of being a minority weighs heavily on your decision making regarding violence.

On the surface, Palestinians (Muslim, Christian, Secular) unite against the Israelis. Absent the Israel bogey, there is a LOT of hostility between the two religious groups. Christian Palestinians often do not like their Muslim countrymen.

I assume you know that the universe is really big, and mostly empty. What would the harm be in firing waste into the sun? Or onto an uninhabited planet? I don't think anyone would really give a shit. I assume you are just being argumentative in the "not polluting space", it is a vacuum there is nothing to pollute. And you could bury a rocket at high speed into the crust of some planet like Mercury or something. I think Capt. Kirk will forgive us.

I was actually thinking of Cormac McCarthy's book "The Road". I think this is a good portrayal of what might be in store for our future. People always seem to think they can fix our impact on the earth. Like evolution owes it to us to let us keep living. Bah.

The real issue is there are too many fucking stupid people, like in India for instance, screwing away, breeding like rabbits, consuming resources, polluting the environment, remaining completely ignorant of the world's problems. Hell there are too many of those people here in the US. To fix a lot of these problems you will have to unstupid people. And if you look at how that has worked out on RD.net, you will lose hope. Try convincing a wooter like brain of anything rational.

And plenty of religious people are eager for the end of the world to come.

You are missing Islam's subtle reference to "That which the right hand possesses." Meaning your slave girls, whom you may copulate with and procreate with, and do about anything you want with. Muslims generally say "It doesn't say rape", but that dodges the point that it doesn't say "Do not rape". A passage that reads "Fuck your slave girls anytime you want, they are your possession" is quite easily used to allow for rape. And which country was cited by Human Rights Watch as rape central??>???? Saudi Arabia. These retarded bedouins hire Phillipino maids, and then think they can fuck them anytime they want. These idiots have yet to realize that employing a foreign laborer is a little different than owning a slave. Even then, they are using Islam to justify the rape of women trying, desperately, to escape poverty.

I am issuing a challenge. Fanusi has said here and in other forums that he would be eager to become an American citizen. He has also denounced Islam and said he supports a war on Islam and Muslims. I can solve all of this in one swoop.

The lovely thing about America, is that now, if you are a non-citizen and choose to serve in the armed forces, after your tour you will be granted citizenship. Fanusi will be able to gain his citizenship, and fight Muslims the way he brazenly claims he is dying to.

So Fanusi,

At your request I will begin inquiring at the local Army recruiting office how we can get you enlisted in the military, to back up your swaggering bravado, and to get you citizenship. I for one would be happy to have another American who is as dedicated to the Constitution and Secularism as you are, and I know the Army would love another warm body. So we can kill 2 birds with one stone. Are you in?

You made my point. I was trying to see if Fanusi can bring himself to even mention atrocities committed by the United States, or Christians, or Jews for that matter. What a useless contribution to only ever criticize one world view, and one ideology. There are a bunch of worldviews, all militating against one another, with deadly results.

Fanusi's obsession resembles the warlike obsession with "Eurasia". When Fanusi comes here, it is the "Two Minutes Hate", Fanusi stands up and hurls dictionaries at the face of "Goldstein" and then leaves, commenting on how wonderful "Ingsoc" is. It is fanatical. I had with held judgment on the matter, giving him every opportunity to at least fake like he could criticize someone other than a Muslim, or more specifically an Arab.

Scum in Lebanon. I am not dancing around that. I slept through the lecture on Lebanon, believe it or not. Late night drinking. I will have to go back through some publications before I feel I can comment.

I didn't say no one knew that the Mufti was anti-semitic. What I said was, it is incorrect to assume every Arab who supported him did so because he had allied himself with the Nazis. If you have some proof of this, you could show us now. Or you could continue on this same war path of insinuation and labrinthine guesswork.

I didn't say "of course" Rumsfeld knew. I noted that some people suggest that he did, and that there is plenty of evidence that officers well up the chain of command knew what was going on. This can be found on Wikipedia among other places.

I didn't skate over the Stanford Experiment, I mentioned it and discussed it. The point being that there needs to be controls on these "ordinary" people who you keep insisting simply get out of line from time to time.

As for your final two posts. You have referred to Arabs as "scum" and "rats", you have done this elsewhere with other terms. A number of people here have said you are using anti-religious attitudes to float your specific brand of "racism". I have reserved judgment, but you aren't giving me much to work with here.

Don't forget that US revolutionaries were called terrorists by the British for fighting out of uniform. They revolutionaries had to do this, because outright confrontation would have resulted in a thrashing from the British. So should the Americans have been shot like rats?

Caudimordax,

Well having discussed this with many Muslim women, I notice they defend the institutions most vigorously. In fact on Egyptian University campuses, women have taken to wearing the veil as a way of asserting their identity. It shouldn't be assumed that Islamism is solely male dominated.

I think you let Islamists come to power, and let them fuck up a country or two. I don't see another answer. People assume there is a good solution if we just look for it hard enough. Killing Muslims en masse seems to create more hostility, while leaving them alone has never been tried. I think the answer may be obvious, but we need to reserve the right to self defense.

So if you allow a Muslim government to rise to power in say.... Iraq. If there was an attack which was organized and supported by Iraq, you would have greater options to retaliate, because if a state attacks you, you are entitled to retaliate against this state in a reasonable fashion. In this case, Fanusi would get his carpet bombing of Muslims, mass deaths, and shooting of "rats".

And I would get to keep my tax money.

rustylix,

You are correct. The price of gas takes into account several things:

1) Supply
2) Demand
3) Projections of future supply
4) projections of future demand
5) Political risk
6) Weather risk

So instability falls under political risk. So this is calculated into the price of the oil futures market. The problem with this market is that the oil producers will always mark to market at this market price. The speculators really help drive the price of oil.

So if a long futures contract on oil goes up based on projections, the oil producers can make the market. For instance if oil is trading at $110 per barrell, and the September contract is trading at a notional value of $120 per barrell, there is no way that the actual value of oil won't reach that value if it remains priced as such.

So in short, yes, instability is directly linked to oil price. For instance the latest spike in Light Sweet Crude prices was due to a terrorist act in Nigeria.

And now for the balance of the post from you.

and the Grand Mufti enjoyed major support from the overwhelming majority of the Muslim Arabs.

So you are saying the following:

Fact one: The Grand Mufti was in bed with the Nazis
Fact two: Most Arabs supported the Grand Mufti
Conclusion: Therefore Arabs are Nazi supporters.

The falsity is obvious. The Grand Mufti was supported for a number of reasons, one of which was his being the figurehead of the resistance. Arabs tend to support fellow Arabs who defy the imperialists. For instance Saddam Hussein enjoyed spikes in support whenever he stood up to the west or whenever he did something similar. And he received a notable sympathetic wave after he refused to be hung like a coward. But for the rest of the time, the Arabs hated Saddam (by and large).

as the idea that the actions of a handful of nightguards at an obscure prison is equivalent to the barbarity committed day in and out by their opponents.

You usually have much better reading comprehension than this. What I said was, and this was my initial point (also misconstrued by jayalenik), that governments tend to employ shitty people. You can continue to amuse yourself with these Marine Corps posters "The Few the Proud", but the military tends to attract some sick fucks. Just ask some people in the military about those that actually do the sick stuff. They are mostly disturbed kids with a fascination with guns and killing animals. Future psycopaths. This isn't a majority, and I certainly didn' say it was.

As for "a few night guards". These were American soldiers, not rent-a-cops. They did so with the knowledge and approval of superior officers, and the knowledge may have gone as high as Donald Rumsfeld. Your attempt to downplay and whitewash American misdeeds reminds me of Chomsky trying to whitewash Khmer Rouge atrocities.

I was also going to bring up the Stanford Prison Experiment. There has to be oversight, and there was, this oversight at Abu Ghraib approved these tactics, and knew very well what was happening. This kind of indifference to human suffering is the mark of a sick person and a sick organization.

To put it bluntly, it is entirely legitimate to shoot them like rats.

Fanusi,

A point you need to rectify:

They, instead, chose to follow their leaders who commanded them to leave so that they could join with their fellow Muslim Arabs in slaughtering the Jews. The Arabs lost those wars; tough luck to them. They lost the land with it.

This is a common and pernicious myth. There have long been lies about "Arab broadcasts" circulated by the Israelis. There is not one shred of evidence to suggest that Arab governments broadcast to the Palestinians to leave their homes. What was recorded was Israeli trucks with loud speakers driving around telling Arabs that the Jews would slaughter them and use "nuclear weapons" in order to scare the Arabs away, it partially worked.

In fact the Arab governments had everything to gain by keeping the Palestinians in place, they would serve as a friendly local population, and serve as a 5th column wherever Israel took lands.

So my challenge is to find one credible source suggesting there were "Arab evacuation broadcasts". This my has been exploded by Norman Finkelstein, as well as numerous Israeli scholars.

Bonzai,

I was going to mention that. And why did the US overthrow Mossadegh? Eisenhower was initially against it, until MI6 told the US he was heading for the Soviet sphere, which was false.

And why did the British say this, because they were sick of the Iranians nationalising things like oil and tobacco and tea.

And what did the progenitors of the Islamic Revolution say with regards to democracy? Khomeini, among others, (including Shariatti) said that they only demanded that the Shah honor the 1909 constitution. This was the demand of the 'Ulema prior to the revolution, the Shah's constant refusal to adhere to a constitution helped fire the flames of revolution. That and slaughtering 20,000 people in one day in Tehran in what is now known as Martyr's Square.

The Shah had gotten so bad that the protestors arrived wearing funeral shrouds in preperation for their coming deaths. They were then gunned down by Iranian (and some say Israeli) troops.

Anyhow. The argument that one government should be destroyed because it employs some assholes, should equally apply to the US. Dick Cheney is an asshole, and the people involved with Abu Ghraib are ass holes. Human sadism comes out in different ways. Some people kill their daughters, and some people torture Iraqis to death. Either way it is sadism.

The point is that the Iraqi jack ass fucktard should be tried for murder, and so should the Americans who killed an Iraqi. We are not in the business of handicapping Iraqi lives, one Iraqi death is one Iraqi death.

Hypocrisy doesn't draw much water. It is not a currency we can spend in the war of ideas. If western civilization is superior, we should be able to prove it through our actions. Right now, it is still too ambiguous for the likes of Chomsky to figure it out.

The tyrants you support have killed vastly more innocent people than Islamists have. I am afraid I don't understand your criteria, maybe I should say criterion. Is it ok to murder innocents or not? It is a matter of principles. Murdering innocent people is not acceptable. Suharto's purges (1 million deaths) are not acceptable. Massacres in East Timor are not acceptable. Using civilians to see how well Iraq can target its weapons is not acceptable. So when you support vile dictators, you actively recruit for radical groups.

Religion is not the root of all evil, dogmatism is the root of all evil, religion is a form of dogmatism. Unless, of course, you are a fan of Stalinism, in which case your opinion might be different.

As for your false dichotomy (Shah or Khomeini), I will play along. I would once again support the revolution in Iran. Self determination is a human right, and we must let a few Islamists come to power, and then fail miserably then we can watch the ideology crumble. People in Iran are not fans of the regime, by and large, that will be the greatest victory.

Of course if one of these elected governments decides to attack the United States, you then have a state to fight and spend all that tax money on to recycle it to the corporations that helped get you elected.

As for the tank and rifle, both are domestically produced in Israel, and both are considered among the finest in the world. Which goes to show that Israel does not need American weapons technology to defend itself, and was part of my larger point that aid to Israel should be reduced, as it is an unecessary drain on the American economy. It had nothing to do with "tuff". Of course tuff is a form of volcanic rock, you were no doubt looking for the word "tough". But no matter, your post remains irrelevant as it doesn't even address the issue.

And finally 350 lbs.

Thanks for playing, ass clown.

sickofgod,

The logic:

"He is a son of a bitch, but he is our son of a bitch."

So populations can be oppressed, people murdered, democracies overturned, so long as it supports an American way of life and detracts from Islam? I hope you are not an elected official.

huzonfirst,

Can you explain exactly how Israel is a "near-theocracy"? I am willing to be convinced, but I need to hear exactly how it is a near-theocracy.
