151. 'Irrational Atheist' trounces God-deniers

Comment #120070 by Verylee on February 1, 2008 at 8:31 am

As for the download, my theory is that the main problem from which most books suffer is that too few potential readers have heard about them,....

Kinda says it all. Also, I am sure the good professor would be very interested to hear that his arguments have now been comprehensively destroyed and will no longer be able to sleep at night!

It took me a while but I ploughed my way thru all those posts! As I posted before and I think others as well...that the majority of us based our comments based on the tone of the interview. I for one will certainly not be downloading, reading or replying to his challenge (The author's name is enough to put me off)....because I don't really give a F**K if he trounces the "Unholy Trinity" with his arguments....it does not change a thing for me, can he prove the existence of a supernatural being? Millions of people arrived at atheism before Dawkins et al arrived on the scene, and millions will arrive at the same conclusions after their books have grown old and dusty on the shelves. So if VD's book really does sensibly refute all their arguments, good for him. I suggest it would better serve the theists (inc the de Souza's, Mc Grath's etc) and maybe they will come up with some better arguments in the future....but for me it boils down to, I don't have time for "faith" and all the (evil) baggage that goes with it and they need to provide "evidence".
He just wants the PR and he ain't getting any from me!

Hear hear!....If this book really does blow the Ungodly Trinity's arguments out of the water, I am sure we will all hear about it sooner or later, but more likely there will be a deafening silence.

Comment #118135 by Verylee on January 30, 2008 at 11:50 am

To paraphrase Ron Hubbard "If you want to make millions, start a religion"......"if you want to stay in business, pander to religion". I guess only when atheists/m gets some serious economic clout will it ever be taken seriously....Mammon rules OK.

I won't be downloading it either...don't want my computer to stop working on the sabbath....the (pseudo?)name of the author is enough to put me off/vomit.

159. 'Irrational Atheist' trounces God-deniers

Comment #118017 by Verylee on January 30, 2008 at 8:31 am

I perused(?) the blog and comments on VD's site and many of the comments were to the effect that none of the shrill and abusive atheists had even read "The Book" and yet they deigned to critque it in their usual shrill and abusive manner. My earlier comments were actually made based on the interview transcript in which I thought that he had come across as very arrogant....but for myself, faith is just not a good enough reason to believe...so unless his book can provide me (a layman) with evidence (proof of the existence) of Allah/Thor/FSM I will stick with my shrill and abusive fellow atheists.

160. Death Sentence for Afghan Student

Comment #117956 by Verylee on January 30, 2008 at 4:19 am

At the risk of being labelled a cynic, I think now that he has been banged up, he is no more than a political tool, a "bargaining chip", and it will be up to outside elements (governments etc) to decide how much value they place on a human life over their policies and goals in Afghanistan, and nothing to do with blasphemy any more.

161. Atheism and Violence

Comment #117930 by Verylee on January 30, 2008 at 2:32 am

The popularity of the Atheism books written for the layman, the exposure of the televangelists and the emptying of churches has caught the religious institutions on the hop. They tried to fight back with accusations of "rants" and "shrill", "Hitler, Pol Pot" etc and they have been shown wanting. Now they are just spreading as much shit around as they can ....It's not aimed at Atheists in particular....but everyone, in the hope that some of it sticks and people back off investigating the cosy little racket they've been milking for the past few millenia. We don't want people to think and start asking questions now, do we?

Comment #114904 by Verylee on January 23, 2008 at 6:44 am

I wonder what the response would be if schoolchildren wrote rebuttals of ID/Creationism to their local papers in protest at the stupidity of accepting that this sort of thing has a place in their society? ("Out of the mouth of babes....")...It would be difficult to play the put upon misunderstood victim if even children find their views appaling and laughable?

Comment #103932 by Verylee on December 27, 2007 at 11:03 am

Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and Christopher Hitchens may be unhappy about the continuing "God delusion,"
..unhappy about the continued pain, misery and suffering spread around the world in the name of religion perhaps..or maybe the jihadists and the clinic bombers and hateful misanthropes that religion seems to welcome and foster. I guess anyone with any decency would be unhappy with that.

185. 'Christian God is not to blame'

Comment #102686 by Verylee on December 23, 2007 at 12:00 pm

It just seems to me, that every time there is an article on religion nowadays....it is the 2,000,000,000 christians who are being victimised, not to mention the buddhists, moslems et al, by a noisy insensitive rabble of atheists...and crying foul.

Comment #102457 by Verylee on December 22, 2007 at 11:40 pm

I've been wondering this a while now and this thread seems a good place to ask! Does anyone know what the proportion, or how many believers visit this site? Do the De Souza's and McGrath's or the clergy visit (for research!)?...is there a record of visits per month anywhere?

190. 'Atheistic fundamentalism' fears

non_plussed if it was your complaint that provoked the edit, then it goes to show how effective the church is with their propaganda...ooops sorry "outspokeness"!

191. 'Atheistic fundamentalism' fears

Comment #102291 by Verylee on December 22, 2007 at 8:51 am

Technogogo you beat me to it haha!! Atheism is being used as a scapegoat for all this political correctness and multicultural sensitivity gone mad. The church is relying as it always has, on its flock being ignorant.
If those pious religious folk would please just stop flying planes into buildings, blowing up surgeries or interfering in medicine, contraception etc....then maybe those nasty atheists will just shut up, go away and leave them alone.

Thanks!! After I posted I realised I could have Googled it! Silly me!
Sixty years huh? Is it possible that since being on this forum Ruht has come to realise the error of his ways and is somewhat resentful of a wasted life and wants to bring everyone down with him!! Nah...too much to hope for!

Hello...I have only been posting for about a week and new to forums. What is trolling?
I think the guy (Ruht) is a hoot...Six decades!! I thought you were baiting (debating?) a child his/her posts are so infantile!! (I can't believe he's baiting you, he means every word!)

198. Believe it or not

Comment #97480 by Verylee on December 12, 2007 at 7:01 am

I agree with the comments about the negative connotations that "atheist/m" seems to be associated with. However whenever I mention that I am an atheist, and it's followed by a stunned silence and looks of fear and loathing, I enjoy the lively debate that ensues!! I also get to point out all the great and wonderful people who have ever lived and who still live today who were and are atheists....the moment it dawns on them that we're not all evil twisted morally bankrupt beasts, I see a kind of wistfulness or even envy at my stance, and if they persist in thinking it's a "bad" word and we're "bad" people, well then that's their problem. I'm with Styrer...The correct definition of atheist/m should be reclaimed to mean exactly what it does mean.

199. Believe it or not

Comment #97454 by Verylee on December 12, 2007 at 5:50 am

It's like herding cats as the saying goes! Noone can agree on an alternative name....I have to admit I do not like most of them either. Atheist suits me fine because that is what I am...(or "the enlightened one"!!)

200. The empty myths peddled by evangelists of unbelief

Comment #97361 by Verylee on December 12, 2007 at 12:44 am

As a sceptic I am struck not so much by how much religious faith and secular humanism differ but more by how much they have in common
I was also a drinking fornicating scumbag of a card carrying atheist until I was saved.....But I'm still a sceptic! (Yeah right!...septic with a holy "C")
